No, student loans are an excluded debt, so they have to be listed, but they do not count toward the £15k limit and they are not cleared when the order finishes

Thanks but I didnt make myself clear enough, sorry.
We dont have any debts owing to Student Loans but we do receive a grant towards the cost of studying part time with the OU. Its whether this is included in the household income I was asking about, but thanks for the reply :)
I don't know if I'm getting better or just used to the pain.

Any grant I would average out over the period of time it's awarded (if £1200 a year i wouldnt put it as £1200 but as £100 per month) and include it as income. anything received must be declared as income, but obviously things like DLA have reason to be used as disability expenditure

OK, Caz I can see the logic of that. You clearly have your budget under control and your're not using it for high-interest credit.

You've just got to use them with care, as they bite if you don't pay them off in full each month.

    Totally agree fatbelly!

I dont use the credit card as 'credit' what I do is, everytime I use the card for something I would normally be spending, I transfer the exact amount spent to an e savings account linked to my bank account and it stays there until my credit card statement is produced. The day it's produced I clear it in full. I use the credit card as another form of payment instead of a form of credit.

By transferring the money from my normal bank account it means it's gone and can't be spent!

My way of thinking and doing things is soooo different since my DRO it has seriously changed my life and for the better!

I am getting married next month and not one thing is on a credit card! We are having a 'budget' wedding and I can't wait to enjoy our relaxed day and know that we dont owe no one!

  • Hi all, thanks for all your advice. I have written to all of my creditors and all except one have been updated as "satisfied" which i am obviously pleased about.
There is one though, HSBC, who have written back to me to advise that the account would be updated as "partially satisfied", does anybody know if this is going to cause any problems, i would like it to be " satisfied" the same as all the others, im curious as to why.

    Thanks

    Hello!

What sort of documents do i need to provide with application ?
How do i assess my home assets values? Are TV - FridgeFreezer counted towards the £300 (is that single or total max value=?)
Is anyone coming to my home to check what items i have at home and at what value? Got a 50" plasma samsung tv, 2 years old, also got samsung usa fridge freezer that i got from (discount electronics) aucton a year ago for 500£. How do i value these?

Got a car a 2001 y reg passat 1.9tdi saloon , would this go for under a £1000 value? (I personally bought it from mate at work for £800 ).

I am single earner in family about £1070 per month + tax credits ect £730 a month total about £1800.
and at the end of the month i have no money left at all.
Got into debit due being off work sick and got a punch of payday loans, a 100£ here, 200£ there, and now they all demand 300£ - 1000£ back. Got a phone contract ended demanding 410£. British gas demands 1060£ and some other debits. Totalling around £5000.
Do ebay bills qualify for DRO? Got an 200£ wanted by them.

Getting 10+ phonecalls a day + 3+ letters almoust every other day demanding money and one payday company called "paydaycommunity" demands 710£ for a 250£ loan. Have payed them 50£ back but failed to make other repayment and got added 60£.... now they threaten to send bailiffs...

Am afraid to answer the phone, when at work all i think is how to get money to pay off my debits. Alll the stress is driving me crazy soon if i dont get help.

What would be easyest way to apply for DRO (im in Manchester).

All what you describe appear to be normal household goods so do not count as assets. No one pops round to have a look.

Got a car a 2001 y reg passat 1.9tdi saloon , would this go for under a £1000 value? (I personally bought it from mate at work for £800 ).Then its value is £800 or less. We intermediaries use parkers fee guide to value cars, but yours is too old so our guidance says that we take your opinion of the vehicles value.

Dont play the creditors game - do not speak to them on the phone - use answermachine to srceen calls, change your phone no. / sim, recognise the number and ignore.

Apply to the CAB in Manchester or perhaps call National Debtline. Dont delay in taking advice, whether it is a DRO that is the solution or not, there are other things that can be done.

    Good advice from DD earlier.

If you came to me with that car, I'd suggest a value of £600. The spec doesn't make a lot of difference but I'd find out what it was and print out a valuation from wisebuyers for my file.
  • Thanks Orville, had a look but not on yet, hoping it wont be long now :)
