Are they counted as 'income'?
I think they would be treated in the same way as for benefits
Which types of student finance are counted as income when working out benefits?0 -
Thanks for the info fatbelly, not sure if we are struggling with the 15k limit but just needed to find out what happens to joint debts. didn't want to work it all out and half them for someone to come back and say that we have looked at it all wrong.
Once again thank you.0 -

However, if you receive DLA as one of your benefits you may choose to use that money on a DMP but when it comes to the DRO the instruction is that it must be shown as both 'income' and 'expenditure'.
So in theory if you were receiving £80 per week DLA you could be paying £350 per month on a DMP but still qualify for a DRO.
hi, thankyou so much for the reply. i think youve actually answered another question i had too... i wasnt quite sure how they worked out the less than £50 left over - if that included money payed on minimum payments to creditors, or not. if i do include that im minus £ each month, and would qualify, but if i dont, im not. i didnt know about my dla being counted both ways, i would qualify either way then. in my heart i would prefer to try and pay this off somehow, no matter how long it takes. its good to know there is help out there, and on here for those of us in trouble. i thank all of you, who use your time to help all of us, who post on here for help.youre all :A:A:A.:hello:

You're over the 15k limit anyway at the moment so the thing to do is start your DMP, see how it goes, and review things in say 6 months.
If creditors are refusing to freeze interest & charges, or start to take court action, then you know that you will soon have a DRO as a fall-back position.0 -

hi, i just had to say thankyou again. it makes total sense, and i just cant think logically at the mo, so its good to have someone to do it for me!:) hopefully my creditors wont be mean, but then theyre there to make money, not to be nice! they cant take what i havent got tho! im going to open another bank account tho, as ive read thats a good thing to do, so they cant just take my money right away. thanks again for your advice.:hello:

Hi,
Ive got my paperwork through for DRO, Ive been going through my statements over the past 2 years & now Im worried itl look like Ive preffered a lender.
I was working up until 2010, so I paid the one with the highest interest more than the one with the lowest interest (I haven't cleared any cards)
Once I left work, I reduced everything to minimum +10, then eventually minimum +5 - though I think again highest interest one was kept at minium +10, as I didnt expect not to cope, kept thinking I would find a job (looking since March). I cancelled 2 cards but left one open, which I used to top up food shop & buy dd's school shoes, ie I would make a payment, then some months when hit with overdraft fees use that cc to top up food shop & get dd's school shoes.
My PPI payment has just gone in, the lady at cccs said as its going to get eaten up by my overdraft, I am safe to leave it in there as the bank have chosen to allocate it there,(they havent said they are closing overdraft) it leaves around 250 afterwards, which she said I should take out the 90 for the DRO and keep the rest (I dont have savings).
Now Im a bit worried about it all. Plus as my overdraft is not closed, could my bank use it to put towards my credit card - with them?
Ive cancelled all payments now, though they wont know until they get the token payment & letter, so they will have had approx 2 token payments (at a guess) before it goes though (if it goes through)
Regarding the letter, is it better to explain the reasons for struggling or just a plain inpersonal letter?40 to go0 -
Hi,
I have a dro that was set up on 21 Dec 2011 and it is showing on the insolvency register (so I am presuming its all gone through ok) but I am still being chased by barclaycard, today I have had a letter from a debt collection agency on their behalf. What should I do? Should I contact Barclay card or the collection agency? So far I have ignored every letter as I have had quite a few from my debtors as the dro is so recent, so I was expecting to get a few but now this has come from a collection agency I am worried
Thanks for any advice0 -
