Well tomorrow marks the end of my 12 month period in the DRO - how time flies when you're not getting hassled every day! What happens after this period? I assume the IS send a letter confirming all debts have been written off as it's the end of your (something period.. begins with M..)?

It'll be such a relief to finally get this off my back, lesson learned the desperately hard way, time to grow up :money:

    No, you get no letter.

Actually your name stays on the IS register for a further 3 months after the DRO end date.

My advice leave it a month or so then check your credit file, see if all your old creditors have stopped marking your file. if not get onto the IS. They can send you a letter saying the DRO is now over which you can then make copies of and send those to any creditors still marking your file along with a note saying the DRO has now ended and as such these debts should be written off.

I've been looking into a DRO for myself and wondering would it affect my bank account? I'm not in any debt with my bank what so ever, its a basic account but i have a debit card and dont want to lose it. I know someone that has a DRO and she has had to have a very basic account and is not aloud a debit card.

Also over the next year or so i wish to start working from home as a nail tech (which i am studying for now) I will need insurance for this, will a DRO affect me getting that?

What about my phone contract? Would i lose that? I did have a debt with vodafone but this is going back 6+ years and dont think its on my credit file anymore.

Just added my debts up and it comes to 6k.

I think it depends on the bank, i was with Santander and had a Premier Current Account when the DRO was granted. I never heard anything from them and still have the account now.
  • Hi, I'm hoping someone may be able to offer some advice. My wife has got Debts of around £12,500 and has no income other than mine and small benefits. As far as I know we are not financially linked so what options does my Wife have to clear this? The debt is due next week. I believe the debt might qualify for a debt relief order but will that affect me financially as well? Will my income be taken into account? I've explored the possibility of a loan but having already taken one out recently to restructure my own finances I cannot get another one to help her out.

taking out further loans is not the solution as you are then paying interest on interest already accrued. I would advise your wife speaks to a free advice agency, CAB, National Debtline or CCCS. they can look at things separately, they may even find you options you can consider together. You may not wish to wait until Monday to make a start, why not try CCCS' online service through their website? https://www.cccs.co.uk
  • Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me answer my question.
If I have been granted a DRO and I am working but my partner isn't, would it stop my DRO if she gets a job a few months into the order?
If so would they be able to find out? The debt is not hers and the DRO is not hers. We do not share bank accounts.
    Thanks.

Your partner's income is not taken into account in a DRO.

This isn't explicit in the official guide but 'your income' and 'your assets' (and 'your debts'!) are just that - it's an individual insolvency solution.
  • are you sure because on CAB website they state.

    Under "Listing your income"

"wages or salaries for your partner and yourself. Put in your net earnings, that is, after deductions. This should be the amount you regularly receive. If the amounts are different each month, average them over three or six months"

That was from a page linked off the DRO page

    adviceguide.org.uk/index/your_money/money_management_index_ew/help_with_debt_index_ew/budgeting_index_ew/how_to_work_out_your_budget.htm

Yes, I'm sure. The page you linked to is fine but it's nothing to do with DROs.
