To either buy the car for under £1000 and then buy an essential white good/s or laptop for uni etc and maybe some clothes...that would then satisfy as up to £1700 being spent leaving me with only £200 assets.
This would be the easier option.
The other option he suggested was to lend the car from my parents and find some way of spending £1700 on essential objects like above.
Personally I would've advise to do this simply because if the OR were to check up on it, you'd need to show they were of genuine need and not just you depriving yourself of an asset for DRO purposes who could have serious implications. You'd also need to make sure you drew up a lease agreement as I said earlier.
Then the last option would be to get the car that is in my possession still( but written off ) repaired and road worthy but make sure I keep the invoices. Although I would be spending far more on the car than it is worth the way that this works out the dro will leave me far better off 2 years down the line.
Can't really say if this'd be worth it as wouldn't have the first clue about whether it'd be financially viable!

I hope you can get it sorted out soon! The earlier you can find the £90 the better cos it will be sorted out quicker! I've heard CCCS are processing DRO's in approx 4 weeks at the moment. Unfortunately for me I went through my local CAB and it took 9 months :( had it been done in 4 weeks, i'd be approaching the 12 months now... ah well least its done!

Anymore questions feel free to ask and im sure you'll get the help you need!

Had my initial phone interview on Friday and the girl on the end of the phone was unbelievably helpful, she was an absolute star. Completely unjudgmental, really sympathetic and a caring personality (it seemed) and explained everything in words of four letters or more, handy for folk like me...:D

I actually owe £12,800 although some of it cannot be included though I still had to declare it to her. She's sending the paperwork down; said she would send me a Experian credit report application form but for the sake of a couple of quid to fill it in online, I may do that to speed things up a bit. Set myself a deadline of six weeks to raise the £90 and I'm going to do it in instalments as well so aiding my chances of getting it done quicker.

  • Hi

I'm hoping someone can help with regards to sending letters to creditors. I moved houses and didn't let the credit card companies know where I was (because I needed time to figure out what to do) one of the credit card companies has now found me and passed me on to a debt collection agency. My question is: will they lay off if I send them a letter stating I'm in the process of applying for a DRO? Or will they keep coming at me? I can't afford my bills, rent, saving for DRO and paying them too. I'm currently saving the £90 for a DRO and I won't have it until after Christmas.

I'm so nervous about this :(

    Thanks
  • I would suggest sending all your creditors a letter explaining that you're having financial difficulties and offering to pay a token gesture of £1 a month while it is getting sorted out - send a financial statement showing your income and outgoings. This is what I did and apart from the occasional phone call to see if there were any changes to my circumstances, they have left me alone :)
  • Thanks poormummy. So I shouldn't mention the DRO?

Does anyone have any info on CCCS? I was planning on going with CAB but after reading the above, I think 9 months of applying would drive me crazy! Is it done all over the phone? What documents do you need to send in?

    Thanks

    Hi,

It was me that it took 9 months with the my local CAB! It wasn't applied until it was 9 months from my initial appointment! I dont know why it took that long as all the figures and paper work required were with them from day 1 as i explaned in a previous post there was changes to the people dealing with it and the specialist team were only at my CAB once a week which didn't help! But hey got there in the end and im nearly 4 months in now! Best thing I ever done was this DRO!!

  • I guess CAB must be especially busy right now. Congrats on finally getting your DRO =)
  • I would definitely recommend contacting the CCCS if you haven't already - they are so helpful and yes, it's all done on the phone. They will go through your financial statement with you and can give you template letters to send to your creditors - who are even more likely to leave you alone if you have a CCCS reference number.
