I obtained a DRO last year and it ended in July of this year.

I opened a coop basic bank account just before I obtained the DRO as I was told this would be the best thing to do. The Coop informed me that their debit card was a normal debit card but it isnt, its an electron card. I want to change as I want a normal debit card rather than the electron card which still isnt accepted everywhere despite the banks telling you it is (Asda petrol pumps for example)

Now i want a normal Bank account but after applying at the Nationwide I was turned away at the first hurdle.
Anyone know of any banks that would accept me?

    Thanks

p.s sorry if this is posted in the wrong place.... Ive only just joined this morning and cant seem to find where you add a new post.

DRO's don't officially affect your credit rating so you didn't need to go and get a new basic bank account. However you will be subject to the banks' normally credit scoring and obviously with a DRO your credit rating is damaged. Just try shopping around but you should be able to get a normal current account, just not an overdraft and such...

    Hi.

This is the question i posted to my friend and the answer he gave. I wasn't sure what he meant at the bottom when he said he decided not to bother, wether that was decide not to tell them or didn't work i don't know, but i have messaged him again asking.

Can you tell me about the time you worked at ...... while under a DRO..? I am sure you told me that you did. Were you more then £50 a month better off and if so, how did this not affect your DRO...?

i was told by cab not to inform them unless it became full time work but i did phone the insolvency peoples helpline and enquire about it and they said if i was going in to a tempory job they could freeze my dro untill i stopped working but i decided not to bother as it was only for 4 weeks....

Makes sense, although I'm surprised his CAB advisor told him to not tell them

I was suprised when he said he could get a freeze on it. I wonder if in the time it is frozen you become liable for any debts within the dro. I will phone them up monday just to clarify i think.

It's not something I've heard of, so I'd imagine it's discretionary on how good a mood the OR is in.. lol so long as the DRO is in place you're protected from action from creditors, it's only when it's revoked that you're at risk..

  • hi, we are a couple not married.

individually i have debts of about 12k and my partner has his own debt of 10k.

would we apply seperately for individual dros?

I dont work as I have a 7 week old baby and a 2 year old. so get tax credits and child benefit.£600pcm

DH gets about 700pcm from work and working tax credits.

in this case would our household bills be split 50/50?

    thanks

Are the household bills in joint names..? If not then you would count only bills in your name (i think). If they are joint then i would assume it would be split if you are both going for a DRO. If only one of you is doing it, i think it would fall to the other named person on the bill to pay it.

Yes, DROs are personal and so in your cases would be based on sole income/debts etc, or anything which is joint. Your household bills are more complex so I would recommend speaking to a debt advisor about the best way for you both to do a DRO and your financial statements, as there are many ways you could do it.
