Thanks for the mention Sue :D Whem I read Mumofcookers post I just thought "Hey, thats me!" and you are right, this time I'm still going great guns and into my 8th week of not smoking now.

Mumofcookers, as Sue mentioned, I was on and off this thread like a yoyo the past year with declarations of day 1. Eventually I went to the Dr's and tried champix which to me have been a wonder drug. :D

Scrimpnsave - I was on the champix and found that the fags were changing taste and my desire was changing too but I didn't actually stop until the LAST recommended day (being day 14). Don't worry about what other people in your group are doing, this is about you and how you feel.

Maccababe - was it you who mentioned about bleeding gums? I've been having these too so I went to the dentist yesterday as I thought it was better to get checked. He said it WAS a common symptom of stopping and to brush twice a day and use a mouthwash.

MimiJane - Keep going with the Allen Carr book, it didn't work for me and I went to the course too but my friend has given up with it and millions of others have.

Hello to all other newbies and all the oldies :rotfl:

I just wanted to let you all know the BEST thing for me not smoking.

    :j :j

I managed a full 24 hours without a fag - I am so excited. OH went out last night and I succumbed and lit up, :o I knew I would as soon as he said he was going out even though I don't think I really needed to, however, I took about 3 puffs and realised I was being stupid and put it out.

I am still finding it far more of a struggle than he is but am following the tips from Sue-UU (thanks again) and getting there slowly. The main thing for me is that I know I can do it now and I never believed it possible.

    Hi, What a great thread.

I gave up on Monday, I've got two young girls and want to be healthy for them plus I had my LBM on Saturday and £140 per month is a lot of money. I have decided to transfer £35 each Monday to my debts so I can see the results.

I have given up before but I've always smoked again after a week so feeling very nervous until then....

Well done to every one who'e succeeded so far and good luck to those who are trying...here's to another smoke free day!!

Whilst today will not be a smoke free day I smoked my last cigarette at around 8.30 this morning. Decided to bring it forward a couple of days as I'm not buying any more. I've also not finished the Allen Carr book (having said that I have read it twice already!!)

    Wish me luck!!

    Hi everyone :D

Well I dont want to speak too soon....but it seems to be getting a bit easier :j
Felt a lot calmer yesterday and today and even managed to stay up until 11 last night. Am getting used to not smoking now although I still want one when I think about them. Have really started to think of the positives a lot more whereas over the weekend I was all doom and gloom -though it was time of month as well so just made everything worse!
Have noticed that the smell on people who smoke is really nasty but if i walk past someone whos smoking i sniff the smoke and like it still.....
Skin is looking a little better apart from one giant spot which I put down to all the rubbish i have eaten.I have now just stopped filling my face and taken up drinking lots of tea and coffee and juice.Sleep still horrendous cant wait for this to get better.
I now have so many people supporting me I think I would be soooo embarassed if I messed up now!Strange but you talk to anyone who smokes and they say....I wish I could give up or I must try and stop soon....My smoking friends seem more supportive than the non smokers.Maybe because they want to see someone do it so they know its not impossible or something like that?Anyway im babbling now.
Well done everyone keep at it.

Thanks for this post, it's good to know that it gets easier because at the moment it seems to be hard work trying to distract myself constantly. Fortunately I don't get PMT anymore so at least I don't have that to contend with.:rotfl:

Hey I can still laugh so it must be ok.

    Hi Ameliarate:D

Yesterday and today have been a lot better,I think its the habit thing I was really struggling with I have managed to change a lot of my habits that I associated with smoking although I pretty much smoked with anything I ever did!
I didnt think of anything else the first week but some other thoughts are creeping in at last......:D
Try and stay strong...I have turned mine into my own secret little competition now with my OH (hes always been able to pack up easy, dont think he ever thought i'd do this long...I must say I feel a little smug ;) ha ha )

    Stroppy & Ameliarate,

I obsessed about smoking for about 3.5 weeks. I mean literally obsessed. Not necessarily wanting one but cigarettes was all I thought about, eventually it wore off and now I hardly give them a second thought. :D
My smoking friends seem more supportive than the non smokers.Maybe because they want to see someone do it so they know its not impossible or something like that?

I definitely agree with this statement!

Well done Jon, 1st morning down, keep doing it small steps at a time, try to change your routine if you can and if you feel yourself getting angry at something/someone.. go for a small walk, even if it's just down the garden path and back again.
