    Aaaaarrrrgggghhhhh!

Having trouble today (day 3). Feel terrible and want to kill anyone who comes near my office. No reason for posting apart from wanting to vent to people who understand. Everyone here is a non smoker, or a happy smoker (if there is such a thing).

    Grrrrrrrrr. *puffs on inhalator*

    Hi Donna

I had my last ciggie on Monday night so I will have gone 72 hours without Nicotine at midnight tonight.

I am doing okay today, so far but was having a terrible time with cravings last night, and scoffed a load of cheese and buscuits, but I am determined to get there this time.

I have given up before and even lasted 6 months but ended up back on them again. I don't want that to happen this time.

Good Luck, maybe we can support each other,
    D

    Hi SexyLegs! Good name!

This is probably my attempt 3,472 so I know it gets easier. I've given up several times where I dont smoke for months and months, but then have one. Idiot!

I'm on patches and an inhalator this time - I registered with Boots stop smoking service and I had a reading of 23 on the carbon monoxide reader. My next appointment is on Wednesday so it should be down to zero hopefully.

    Good luck - keep strong!

Hi everyone, I hope it's a good day for you all, if not, that it'll get better with a positive mind. :)

jammy, you've done marvellously and I can't somehow see you going back, you're stronger than that, I'm sure of it!!

FEE, you're quite right about the cravings being purely of a mental problem. Nicotine has great powers and even though it's completely gone from your system after a long time of it being such a huge part of our lives it still lingers on in the brain.

The best thing I can advise is, as soon as it get's to you, put your mind totally onto something, something you love, a new hobby, language etc. Try hard to find something to take your attention immediately. Reach out for a photo album, a crossword.....anything that really takes over. How about a work-out with a dvd/vhs or a good long and brisk walk. Go on FEE, don't allow this to beat you again, after all, how DARE it!!! It is possible to get over these times FEE, think...think and think again until you find something or somethings to focus all your attention on and keep talking to us, please! Meanwhile stay strong!

Afternoon Ash and well done with tackling AC head on. A good idea to keep it to yourself for now, that way you don't feel as though you're letting others down, though you shouldn't feel that way anyway as it's YOU that you're doing all this for and only YOU can do it! Incidentally, there's no real 'Easyway'of quitting, it still requires the strength from you! It'll be good for you to pop in again tomorrow. All the best Ash.

If Donna thinks so then I think it's be a great idea Sexy Legs, it can really help at weak times. See how you feel Donna.

Go steady on the cheese and buscuits D, try sips of water, ice pops or something bitter like bitter lemons. You're right though, it'll soon be out of your system but until it does, keep occupied with something you love, something you really love doing. See the pst to FEE above.

Stay strong Donna, and remember that it'll only be a few hours until the nicotine has left your body and anything from then on is all in the mind. See the part above to FEE. Why not pair up with Sexy Legs and see if you can help each other through, you could send PMs IF you wish.

PLEASE everyone, could you all use the title bar of your post to say how long you've stopped for and the method you're using. Thanks a lot quitters!!! ;) It helps you and everyone who tries to help you. Stay strong everyone and remember.....you CAN do this!!

Donna and Sexylegs, I must have quit about 50 times in all - one episode of 3 years, 2 of 10 months and various week/2 week/numerous 3 day attempts.

Here I am on this my final quit!! Did I do right Sue??;)

Donna, I so understand your anger. Go punch a pillow tonight, call it Nick and beat the hell out of it. You have every reason to be angry with something that has enslaved you for so long!

Hiya larmy, at first I thought you meant "did I do right?" meaning in quitting, but now think you might have meant in putting the amount of time/method used on the title bar instead.

Either way larmy you did perfectly....but especially in having QUIT SMOKING FOR GOOD!!!!!!! :T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T You done good larmy, reeeaaaly good! :D It's me tea, it's gone to me head! :o I'm off to lie down. ;)

    Hi all

I am a 20 a day, menthol smoker and after failing on giving up only 2 days ago I am ready again and armed with Nicotine Gum.

I wanted to ask if anyone has used the Electronic cigarettes and if they found them of any use in helping to give up?

Thanks in advance for any replies

Hello missi1, welcome to MSE and to the thread and to great hope for you to quit. :)

We haven't yet had anyone who's been successful with Electronic cigs, though to be honest, I think most folk consider them to be too close to the real thing and in the end harder to quit as a result of the habit still going on. I'm fairly sure we all need to get away from the hand to mouth habit that fags and the E type ones bring.

I know how difficult breaking the habit is and having stopped for 2 days, it may not seem much to most folk, but you and I know, it's a heck of a lot of time to a smoker and you did well with the first try! I'll send you a PM and see what you think to the tips there. There are many methods open to you, all are good....though it depends on the quitter as to which is best for them, the individual. IF the Electronic cigarette appeals to you then go ahead and give them a try. Whatever you do, please keep in touch with us, we'll do all we can to help you whatever your means of quitting.

    All best wishes missi1. :)

Hi to all the not so old and new friends. Im pleased to say Im seeing a specialist stop smoking adivsor and feel really posititve atm. I dont even feel grumpy this time round, Im not sure why. I was really short tempered last time. Ive turned into a nervous wreck and an insomniac but, as long I stay positive thats half the battle. (I hope). Anyway Im on my jollidays tom. A week in wales cost shared between 4 of us in a caravan. So sort of in keeping with mse ways. I cant start again my 2 neices will be upset. The older 1 is 8 and knows its dangerous from her lessons at school. I put on my f/b status 10 days given up smoking. To all those thinking of starting dont it will kill you. Harsh I know but, I feel it has really damaged my health. I started when I was 11 Im 33 now and have lung problems. Ive taken up cross stitching to fill my spare time and find it theraputic. My advice is find somthing you enjoy and if its possible/pratical try and take your mind off it by participating in your choosen pastime. Good luck everybody, I really do want you to suceed in everything you want.
Godness I chat more bubbles then fa-ry.
