princesswoo wrote: »Well my plans didnt go well last night 3 very uncoopererative children and 1 very tired and stressed out mummy today. So i didnt get to do any of my pre quit plan, but i will try and do it tonight.
The kids had me awake most of the night and when they didnt have me awake i was waking up myself itching to have a cigarette, i have never woken in the night to have a cigarette.
So i am a little dissapointed to say i have had 1 cigarette so far today. But i would have normally had about 5 by now, so although im not off to the best start its a massive improvemnent. I didnt really smoke it though, i just held it and whiffed the smoke smell.
I have a patch on my butt cheek, to sunny outside to have it on my arm, and my DD came running in saying ''mummies bums smoking'' to which we all had a chuckle.
Im not considering it a failure. Just a false start. I am going to continue with trying to not have any cigarretes today, then aim for none tommorrow.
Im gonna go and see the doctor this afternoon, see what he can suggest to help me even more, i feel this addiction has afar stronger hold over me than it has in previous attempts. But perhaps its just me feeling like it has because my lifes a lot more complicated and stressful now compared to previous times.
3-6pm is gonna be a really testing time as its always chaos in our house at that time every night.
Try again Princess. You can do it.
Don't look for reasons to smokeS!!!!horpe0 -
Thanks Pixie. I am rather proud of myself too.
And it is nice to be fulfilling a promise made to my mum as she lay there dying of lung cancer :T:T:T:T:T
For you Mum x

My friend's ex hubby is a chronic alcoholic, and a heavy duty smoker. He is a down and out type, the sort that people avoid because he is so aggressive and he lives to drink and smoke. It is very sad but there is nothing you can do to change him. He has not worked in forty years.
Anyway, the point is that he is in intensive care now, heavily sedated, because he kept pulling out all his (whatever you call the tubes to administer drugs) so he could go and get some fags!!!!!
Therein lies the ghastly truth about smoking. You can be lying there, extremely ill from a lifetime of smoking (and in his case drinking) and all you think of is smoking! How evil is this stuff?

Well i made it through the day with only 5 cigarrettes.
I really didnt feel the patches working, they were a different type to the ones i had before and they didnt seem to stick to my skin.
So i took the patch off, well it was 90% hanging off anyway and managed to only have 5 cigarrettes, its not a failure i still think its a massive achievement as i normally smoke 20-25 fags a day sometimes 40 if its a super stressful day.
I have some new patches that im going to try tommorrow, i had these patches before and as soon as i put them on before i instantly stopped craving a cigarette, unlike this patch i have had on today, i didnt feel any relief from it and from the minute i put it on all i could do was constantly think about smoking.
Im currently treating myself to some haagen daas ice cream. Just a little bit though, dont want to be piling on the pounds, well not on my waist anyway.

Prinvesswoo.
I really hope we can both quit as we are so close in timing I really am rooting for you.
Can I just say weight gain is something that you can reverse at a later date, with respect and I really do not want to sound like a nag, smokers are one chest infection away from chronic asthma, OPCD and emphysimia, once you have that there is no going back and NO CURE!
When my kids were small I was up and down the stairs like a fiddlers elbow, now, ha I get to the top and have to sit on the loo for 10 mins to catch my breath before I can get down again,,,,,,I'm only 46
Speak to your nurse they I found are very good and seem not to rush you the way the DR's tend to. They are happy to go through ALL the options with you. Many thanks larmy. Likewise for sure.
What a tragic tale about your friend's husband. She must be at her wits end, I know I would be if it was me! The things we endure all in the name of ****** fags!
You're doing so well Daz, keep viewing it all in prison sentence terms should always keep you free from fags....trouble too!! :rotfl:Brilliant work.princesswoo wrote:Im not considering it a failure. That's the best way to view it princesswoo, keep looking at it like that and you'll get where you want to be soon enough. It's never an easy task and especially when you have kiddies, but you seem to be doing so many right things. Well done on smoking so few in one day, a lot to be so pleased with! :T Good luck with the new patches being better for you, and don't forget the fruit, water and exercise.
Keep talking to us folks, if nothing else, we ALL understand what this evil addiction is like - BUT - we also know that in such a short time we CAN/WILL/HAVE overcome it!!! Although for the short term you may get a few weak times, for the long term you're doing something amazing for yourselves .....as well as regaining your health!!!:T

Hi SanFran, sorry, but I almost missed seeing you.
What a very sensible and thought-provoking post you put on for princesswoo. It's all so very true and the health we have when we start this evil habit is all too often so different from what smoking does to us as the years roll on. We ALL need to give it up as soon as is possible....for our health's sake! Now that you're quitting though it will hopefully relieve your symptoms - is that right? We had one lady on here and that's how it's worked for her, thank goodness. At least you WON'T be making it all worse, and that's for certain!
All the very, very best with quitting SanFran!

Thanks for all the support.
Im not worried about my weight, im one of the ''lucky'' ones who can eat whatever i like and never put on an ounce. Im a size 8, and 6 foot tall and never went above a size 10 whilst pregnant with any of my kids.
When i was in boots today i had a sudden thought that maybe ive always been skinny and unable to put weight on because i didnt eat enough cos the ciggies were suppressing my appettite, so i had a moment of thinking that id put some weight on and the doc would stop whinging at me for always being underweight.
I got a bit grouchy and started to be a bit narky with my DF, so he went upstairs and came downstairs dressed up in sheets from head to toe, trying to look like a giant cigarette, saying that i could beat him up if it would help, but i couldnt keep a straight face and almost wee'd myself with laughter at how stupid he looked.
Most of the times i have craved a cigarette today, i have logged on to the comping board and spent my time entering a few comps to keep my mind and fimgers busy.
Quitting smoking could be an even bigger bonus for me.
Ive got a lot on on friday, super busy mind day, as long as i make it past the ''1st cig in the morning to get my brain working stage'' ill be fine.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
