  • I'm smoking again and I'm so depressed and confused about it. I could really use some advice tonight.

I reached my one month smoke free target on tuesday and craved like crazy the whole day. I have no idea why. It was like day 1 all over again but without the withdrawal.

Then the next day I had a really long, difficult day at work. On the way home at 9pm I stopped at a shop, bought 10 cigs and told myself I'd just have one. Which we all know is the biggest lie us smokers tell ourselves.

I've not smoked as many as I would have before this quit but there is no denying it's a regular thing now. I woke up today determined to stop before it gets out of hand, grumped at OH around 3pm then immediately reached for a cigarette.

I keep thinking if I can just stop it NOW I can somehow salvage this quit that I was so, so proud of. But this little voice is telling me I've blown itnow so I may as well go back to full time, 20 a day smoking.

If anyone's around, I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this. I'm so confused and disappointed in myself.

Well done to everyone who's still going strong. You're all amazing.

No you haven't blown it - tomorrow is a fresh day - a fresh start.

Funny with aniversaries - it's just a date, but we put so much store on that. It's nonsense in many respects - we build them up & make them overly important - therefore stressful - often.
I haven't stopped yet - so you are ahead of me.
You've probably saved a lot of money & had stopped coughing - you should hear me in the mornings - like Rab C Nesbit.

I think you can do this again - wake up tomorrow with a better feeling about what is just a minor slip up in the bigger scheme of things.
    All the very best.

    Hi Choille,

Have you started your champix yet? How you finding them so far?

Remember you need to smoke and take the tablets for the first 8 to 14 days.

I started loosing interest in smoking after about day 5ish.

Im sorry to hear you was given naff service at the smoking clinic you just cant get the staff now a days lol

Im still going fine on Champix im really chuffed with myself. If my nan was alive today she would be so proud of me (she died of cancer 2 years ago. I picked my stop date on her birth date). :)

No Stclair I haven't - I'm thinking of doing it on Monday - starting the Champix.

It's really great what you're doing & your nan would be so very proud of you.
Glad to hear that you are hetting on so well with the tablets - that's reasurring to me. I have heard good reports. I had such a bad time with side effects when I took Zyban I've been a bit scared, but been told not to worry as they work in a different way.

Theres a lot of mixed messages about zyban and champix apparently the side effects from champix are not half as bad as with Zyban

I would not read the side effects as I think personally it becomes psychological.

I'm sure you'll be fine Choille, the sooner you get started the better ;-)

  • Hi everyone

Thanks for your replies. I've given the whole situation some thought and decided this.

Going back to smoking full-time is not an option. It stinks, I hate it, it's too expensive, it hurts my chest, throat, etc. I want to quit now more than ever before.

I know thinking of 'blips' works for some people but for me, you either smoke or you don't. I've changed my sig to show a new smoke free date of today. It's a whole new fresh start.

This next 24 hours will be crucial and I have a plan to keep busy as anything. My mum is also coming to visit and I really don't want her to know I've been cheating these last 3 days.

So it's back on the straight and narrow for me. And that feels good.

I should have confessed all on here earlier. :D It's really helped.

Good luck to all you peeps on champix and zyban.

LC, I went through the blips a few times, I think most people who quit ciggies have, you will get there and you sound really positive, I wish you every success.

    Good luck to all, Paul

    Hi Luckycharm.

As I read your post, I thought it would not be long before you would start to find smokies disgusting and foul etc. - but well done you for getting there so quickly!!

It just goes to show that this nicotine can strike at any time. I know there are a lot of people who say they know they will never smoke again, but I am of the taking one day at a time, while being mindful of the odd unconcious thought about smoking.

Coming up to ten months now, it barely happens, which is marvellous. Also after being trapped for so long (and being a Queen of Blips - some longer than others!), I never ever want to lose the joy and peace (particularly) of being a non-smoker.

    All the best!:)

Well done to all you other quitters too. So nice to see so many people getting lots of support.
