    Hi all

Still not smoking and I don't count the weeks anymore. Down to 7mg patches which I think I'll probably end up cutting in half, then quarters until I'm free of them. I still get the occasional strong urge to smoke. Then I think about the ££$$ I'm depriving the chancellor of (tax on fags) and I can't help feeling smug for that reason alone.

Best wishes to all of you who are about to come off the fags. Oodles of encouragement to those who have slipped but intend trying to quit again. Come on guys - time we all shafted the taxman instead of the other way round!

Hiya everyone hope all goes well with you all.
Today has not been to bad at all really. Have had moments in the day were I have felt disorintated, go up put my coat on and went to go out the door then had to remind myself that dont smoke any more:). Im not one of those who become a bear with a bad head-but I do feel that something is missing and end up looking for the thing I cant find, if that makes sense.
Need to work out what to do with my hands though my drumming fingers on my desk did I think start to annoy the others I work with. May be we could do a 'name that tune' thing.
  • Hi I'm new on here (well, new to posting anyway!) and just come across this thread.

Must admit I haven't read the whole thing but seeing some other success stories (and struggles) has been pretty encouraging so if you'll indulge me I'll write where I am with the quitting...it is nice to get it all out on a internet forum where you don't know anyone!

I have recently quit, on day # 9 at the moment complete "cold turkey", following a 10 (at least) a day addiction since the age of 15/16, and so far so good it's been pretty easy going. I have quit before and know how hard it can get but I am determined - convinced in fact - that I am now a confirmed non-smoker. I read the Allen Carr "Easyway" book and without getting too far into the realms of !!!!-licking, it has been a bit of a revelation, completely changing the way I think about smoking (to the point where the other night after a "few" pints I wasn't even tempted to have a cig when my mate went out for one...quite an achievement!)

I'm expecting it to get harder before it gets easier though, so expect me back on here when I'm crawling up the wall!

    Cheers for sharing..

Welcome aboard Brewster it was interesting to read your story. The Allan Carr book is a real revelation isn't it. It was through reading that I gave up for three years and yet I slipped off my pedestal. After all that time, it was safe to have a few ciggies right? ................Nooooooooo.

I was out on a blind date (in the days when you could smoke in a pub or club) and it just seemed so tempting to indulge. I can remember how foul that ciggie was.....but of course I was hooked again.

This nicotine drug has tremendous power if we let it invade us. I do think the smoking ban, while not actually making people stop, does give you lots more reasons to never start again, once you have kicked it!

  • Been a while since I posted last, which is probably a good thing as I'm happy to say that I'm still smoke free!

I noticed a few people talking about "blips" etc. and getting back on track. I was worried that spending a week in the UK where I could drink would et me started again. Wel I did have a few blips but I think it came to a total of 4 (basically one on each night out).

Each time I had to make sure that I didn' go and buy some cigarettes as that would have pushed me down the slope, so even though I "blipped" I'm pretty proud I managed to stop after 1 (Gone are the days of smoking 30 on a heavy night out )

So to those that have blipped - just get back on track straight away and best of luck to you all!

:jThis is great - lots of new recruits, on the wagoners and wannabees. Brilliant.
Day 17 - thank God. I had quite a hard day yesterday, I don't know why cos I'm feeling really brilliant without the fags. I noticed too that my gums are nice and pink, rather than red ( sign of gum disease ).
Think I was feeling a bit fat and constipated ( sorry if that's too much info! ) and I think that was getting to me a bit and that nasty, little voice was going 'ah, see? Have a fag - you'll feel a whole lot better.'
I went on to the Special K site instead as I think it's time to replace all the sweeties and chocolate with healthy stuff. What a brilliant site. It's got a great meal planner thingy, recipes etc and there's even a free app for the iphone. Think my smoking savings money might go to one of them.
Week 3 is where I've fallen off the wagon two or three times before, so I think a way round it might be to have a special project. I knit and you'd think it would be a great way to keep your hands busy, but in the first two weeks my concentration just wasn't there. I'm over that now ( tho I still have my dippy moments! ) so I'm gonna start the Aran jumper I've been promising my friend for ages. Nice complicated pattern should keep me busy.
Keep it up y'all and have a great day.

  • Hi All, well done to everyone who is still going :)Larmy its good to see you are still here helping the newbies along wtih Sue

Im still quit, 7 months and a bit now and have to say that im missing it less and less, have managed to fill my life with other things instead :)

Cold turkey worked for me but i know several people who have successfully given up on Champix or with patches so do whatever you need to so that you can stay smoke free.
