wishing you all about to quit or those strating out the best of luck . YOU can do it . .

it aint easy in the first few days particularly , keep busy drink lots of cold water . i kept and still kepp a bottle of water in fridge along with sticks of carrots celery etc for healthy nibbles . I am determined to stay off them without the weight gain i had when i've tried to stop in the past , may of only put in half a stone but i felt ENORMOUS

so i now eat healthy rather than 3 fags and a coffee for breakfast am having cereal or wholemeal toast with a poached egg , am eating more than i ever have but eating the right stuff . i have a one day a week blow out where i indulge and I look forward to those days so i feel i am not completely going without treats . i have develpoped a love for fruit so buy "nice " fruit treats instead of usual apples and bananas ..

have managed to loose 6lb instead of gain :j

can,t believe i would of smoked 452 cigarettes by now .. YUK thats a lot of tabbies to clear up !!!

STAY STRONG EVERYONE . treat yourself for staying off you have everything to gain nothing to loose x x x x

Re: Side effects of the drugs - if you look at the side effects of any drugs they have a list as long as your arm. I guess they have to by law so you have less reason to sue them?

Well I quit once with Zyban and had no side effects that I was aware of.

This Champix sounds like a real asset to some people.

I had bad side effects with Zyban so I'm just a bit wary I suppose.
  • Hi Choille
Well, that really is rubbish. Bad enough that there is no-one in your area, but what's the point of helplines if people are not gonna call you back? It's a good job they are not the Samaritans
I think the counsellor we have here has not long started and she also does the diabetic clinic - multi-tasking like lots of people do here.
Good on ye for starting the Champix. We're all systems go then :T Looks like plenty of people are on here with experience of it.

Hi Buddy - yes - that's the plan. Hope to stop the fags in a fortnight. It's snowed again & I'm getting cabin fever, so hope the weather picks up a bit by then so it's fit to be outdoors.

I complained to the woman on the end of the phone & told her to ask the Cessation Co-Ordinator what she is actually doing to warrant such a title? If I'm as cranky as this while still on the fags what am I going to be like off them? - no, I was annoyed as no one has phoned me back & it's pretty bad.
Just as well I've got you & the rest of the gang.

My girlfriend seems to be serious about kicking her 16yr old habit.

She bought an Electronic cigarette about 10 days ago which seemed to signal her intent. Unfortunately, the "E-cigarette" only lasted a day before it started to malfunction and we had to return it.

She then found another brand of E cigarette that seemed to have good reviews on various websites. Again this only lasted a couple of days before the battery packed in and wouldn't recharge. She's now waiting for a replacement.

I assumed she would go out and buy a pack of cigs in the meantime but no ! It's now been three days since she smoked her last cig and she seems pretty determined to wait for the replacement E cigarette. I'm really proud of her.

We contacted the NHS quit line and texted our details to them over two weeks ago but nothing has come through the post as of yet.

What exactly do the NHS offer in terms of support ?

My girlfriend made tentative enquiries over a year ago and the support she got from the nurse was weak at best. She got a small discount on some patches and that was it !

  • Still going well over here - nausea has only just abated, felt pretty evil this morning - an orange seemed to sort me out though.

You'll all be pleased to hear (I hope) that I went to the pub last night with two smokers and had a couple of pints of ale and did not smoke. Not even a drag.

I've been trying to up the activity levels so I walked to the pub (about a mile and a half) and back and have walked to work (about a mile) and back for the last week. Am quite enjoying it, and might be able to breathe better in the coming weeks! Also cleaned my car out (worst place for smoking for me, I'd light up as soon as I got in) and sprayed fabric freshener everywhere in it.

Hope everyone's doing ok - got Quit Club at lunchtime today and will hopefully blow 0 on the carbon monoxide test!

good on your girlfriend for stopping and on you for the encouragement which I'm sure will be a real incentive for her :-)
I was referred to the Smoking Cessation counsellor after going for a normal woman's 'MOT' thingy at the doctor's surgery. They asked me if I wanted to stop and she called me back the same day.
Your best bet is probably to call in at the doc's surgery and ask if their is any cessation support in your area ( hope it's not like where poor Choille is.
I've found going to the counsellor really good. She is totally non-judgemental ( I've fallen off the wagon a couple of times. ) She did all sorts of tests to decide what would be the best replacement therapy and arranged the prescription for me. I get the NRT free cos I'm on working tax credits.

Hi Spiritus - I think it depends on your postcode what is on offer. Good for you being such a brick of support - that will make a huge difference.

I would think she should be able to get help with costs by getting anything on perscription?

Haven't had any wind as yet - well no more than usual!

Neenie - that's a big hurdle, going out with smokers & having a drink - well done you.

Hellnearth - Hiya, hope things are well with you.
