Am past the 96 hour mark by nearly 13 hours now.
Was having fairly heavy cravings on way to work yesterday and nearly buckled.
Most proud of myself that I went for a pint last night and didn't have a smoke, was a bit wary of going out as I thought it would make me want a smoke but thought it had to be done eventually so went anyway and managed without!
Can't afford it his month but going to start getting myself to the gym again at start of the month with the money I will be saving. Will never get back to to the level I was when I was training to join the Marines but would hope I can get somewhere close (injuries permitting).Smoke free since November 2009.

Well done to you. Its very hard I know. Most of the time I am ok but when I have a bowls match I feel the urge to smoke at half time when the smokers go outside. I used to look forward to coming home after matches and having a ciggie so I knew this would be my hardest time, rewarding myself to to speak so as I have said on here I now chew half a table of nic gum during match and it gives me a headache so do not fancy the ciggies. I am on 15mg patches as I only smoked ten ciggies a day so half a patch is ok for me. Its kept me on the straight and narrow so far. I do not want to go through this every again so want to give it my best shot.
So far I have saved £42 and this money is going on a nice pair of earrings for myself.0 -

Well, thought I'd pop in to update, am now on day 38 of not smoking. Was using Champix but it gave me some nasty side effects from week 2 so for last 2 weeks have not been taking them.
It was hard the first few days of being off them, but it is getting easier... I like others feel sometimes that i'm missing something, but that to is becoming less and less.
Hubby is pleased as all i seem to be doing is cooking.. must admit this is really helping as it keeps me occupied .
I think the only thing that worries me is i occasionally think how long will it last, or when is the bubble going to burst, but am hoping as the days go on this will become less and less.
any way am off now but thanks all, and good luck to those going through this journey as well.

Clairwp you have done so well. Yes it is tough at times. When I do get these voidy feelings I just tell myself they will pass and they are such a small price to pay compared to the slavery to nicotine. After all if you have done something for years and years, it generally is not just going to disappear. For some it does, but for a lot of us, we do have naggings and reminders.
My friend recently had to go to hospital. She told me that there was a man in the waiting room snitching on someone he had seen smoking outside the hospitals to a smoking warden! They were using walkie talkies to track down this vile criminal!
As she waited at the bus stop which was some way off in the distance, a lady lit up and who should come marching towards her, talking into his walkie talkie, but the smoking warden!!!!! All so extreme in my opinion, but nevertheless I am glad to be free of the need to light up at any time.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Not sure what can make you prepare really, all i can say is from my experience you have to really want to quit, i so many times would say i'd LIKE to give up, but this time i said i Am going to give up.
For some reason it was my time and i knew i had to do it..Not sure if that makes any sense but if it's your time you will know.
Good luck x

Very well done chevettehs! Great news also about the pub visit, just always be wary of getting too close to temptation; in other words, never risk becoming complacent, though I think you're determined to stay quit now and well done you!!!:T Getting back to the gym is a great idea!
Well done irish! :T I know it's a little tricky at times, but habits aren't always so easy to break, but in time you'll find it becomes 2nd nature to not think of them at the habitual times. I liked your part "I do not want to go through this every again so want to give it my best shot. So far I have saved £42 and this money is going on a nice pair of earrings for myself." Keep viewing it in that way and keep treating yourself as it makes you feel good about yourself and your achievements!
Hi grace and welcome to a great thread, one that helps you get your life back in order again, to say nothing of getting you healthy! You have the PM now, read it and really take note of all the advice, the advice here too. Cut down as much as possible and at your most difficult times (home and at weekends) change your routine around in any way possible and take up a new hobby or craft to keep you occupied with hands and mind. Get used to drinking more water and fruit the up both when you quit. Also, you'd be well advised to make an appointment to see the appropriate Nurse at your Dr surgery, they have one there these days as they so want people to quit - and stay quit!! It's a great thing to look ahead to going to see her each week and will really help.
Very well done indeed claire!!! :T You're doig so very well, but please try not to think about thoughts of "how long will it last" be really positive instead and do you and your family a really great favour and do your utmost to quit and stay quit for life........YOURS!!!!! Always think of your health claire, you want it back and you WILL get it back!! Read this thread through at any difficult times and do as much exercise as possible! Plenty of fruit and veg, water too, all help a lot, along with the cooking which sounds a marvellous idea!! :j Take note of larmy's advice, she's done amazingly well!!!
Oh larmy, how sad that was in your middle and last paragraphs! I always feel so sorry for those people as smoking is a terrible addiction and sadly, you'll always find bullies who have probably never smoked trying to come down so hard on those who may (unknown to them) be truly desperate to be able to give it all up, I know that's what I was like! The NHS should be choosing very compassionate people for that job, but people with cards of help/advice to give out, not nasty and uncalled for words! A case of "there but for the grace of God go I"!Just wanted to update Sue - I am now 10 months 2days off the cigs and according to silk quit I have not spent £1515.00 so far . My darling daughter was born 28th Oct and I am so proud that my whole pregnancy was smoke free :j
Hi there Naomi and so very many congratulations on your brilliant success!!! :T I'm so thrilled to hear that your little darling was carried in a smoke-free environment and will be reared in one too!!You've done amazingly Naomi and I can 'hear' the great pleasure you feel in all that you write. The amount you've saved is incredible, so very well done Naomi, it was all so worth the effort, so is the good health you now have to look ahead to, I am so very proud of you!!!
Keep it up everyone, you're all doing tremendously well and have so very much to be proud of. Every day you get through is a step closer to your journey's end, a step closer to a very healthy you!! You CAN and WILL get through this, so stay strong and focused!!! :j
