  • Hi

This is my first smoke free day. I'm finding it quite difficult but I think this is being made worse because I just can't get the patch to stick properly. I was really tempted to have a ciggie when I came in then realised that the patch was hanging off! I've now got it completely covered in tape!

Do some brands stick better than others?

Many thanks for your support, I feel great today, no real cravings at all, and this morning was just fab, jumped out of bed, had a black coffee and stood by the back door smoking fresh air through a rolled up paper, and I thought I don't need this, I can do this at this moment in time without any aids, but tomorrow is another day!

Sue-uu, thank you for your pm.

Good luck to everyone trying to quit, I'll be back tomorrow to update or even later if I have a weak moment.

Who else had problems going to the loo after quitting, my stomach is killin me, sorry tmi for some, and whats the solution? not asking for medical advice by the way, just suggestions.

Larmy16, good luck with the weight loss, have you joined the weight loss thread on old style, the guys and girls are lovely over on that board and will offer you support. I may even be joining the group shortly if I carry on eating cookies.

Washer the constipation thing is very common. It does resolve itself pretty quickly. Maybe up your fibre intake or even some herbal laxative for a few days. It does go.

I think it can be a good idea to stand or sit where you used to smoke and just get used to sitting there not smoking. I did this for a while.

Anyway a warm welcome to you. I may have a look at the weight loss thread. I was on it some time ago and was doing ok til I stopped smoking and started comfort eating!

Every now and again it seems as if my brain goes into overload and in the past I would have started smoking to cope with it (I was a chronic stopper and starter!). I have felt myself losing the plot over the past few days, I don't handle stress well and I have too much to do, so it has been a big change for me to not go back to nicotine.

It can be tough but I just tell myself that smoking never helped solve any problem.

A very warm welcome karmacookie!:D You've taken a huge and very courageous step, be proud and hold onto that feeling all the way through! I can't answer you question about the patches I'm afraid as I know nowt about them, but others have had problems with them sticking. Whatever you do, don't get tempted or you'll lose all that "I'm free and a non-smoker!!!!" feeling and you don't want THAT!!! Take note of the pm as there are tips there.

Hi WASHER, you sound really chuffed with yourself, so you should be, it's a great thing you're doing, keep it up along with the pride! I can't possibly add to what larmy has said about the tummy problems, she explains it perfectly. Actually, the only thing I'd add is, drink more water as it'll soften things up and help. The discomfort and problems are only temporary though, you'll soon find everything's back to normal again. Hold back on the cookies and opt for apples and carrots etc, far less fattening!

you're doing great! If you've stuck to your guns and stayed true to quitting at times when previously you've yielded to temptation then progress is yours and it's a heck of an achievement!!!:T Find other ways of handling the stress where possible, deep breathing, music, relaxation therapy (you can buy CDs on that or I can let you have a PM with it on) just holler. You CAN find ways through though, you're doing too great not to!

Wow hippy-chicy, you're at 7 months already??!! I was quite shocked, though thrilled at you going for all that time!! :T Very well done indeed and I hope you're as proud as is possible with all you've achieved!!

Keep up the fantastic work folks. You've undertaken a wonderful health trip which you ARE going to win as it's YOU that wishes to. Keep focused, stay quit!! :j

Today is a difficult one, I'm gonna deck someone before the day is out, I feel like a cigarette and it is constant....so far I haven't.

It doesn't matter what I shove in my mouth, orange, icepop, chewing gum, its not helping, the cravings for a cigarette are the strongest today. I know a cigarette isn't going to make me feel better, I'm not daft, my brother in law is a GP and I know what they do to you.

I'm not one of those people who don't do smoking friends, quite frankly I don't like those people. My daughters friends mum came round for coffee a few months ago, (she didn't know I smoked, I never smoked around non smokers), and she gave me the "I don't do smoking, and I don't associate with people who do", well I flew off the handle at her and told her she wasn't welcome in my home as I was a smoker (I have never ever smoked in the house so no tell tale signs of it)...I don't why I'm writing this, I'm waffling...actually I saw her about half an hour ago walking past my house and I thought I could lamp her one...and breathe.
  • Washer - get out and do something physical - a long walk anything. You need to distract your mind from ....... god, I can't remember now.

Its worth sticking with it - it does get much much easier - I stopped over 3 months back and can honestly say I have no cravings just regrets that I didn't stop earlier.

If you're really struggling find the nearest NHS group or if you wish to do it alone try an Allen Carr book or audiobook (I can vouch for the audiobook - its excellent). Just don't give up - you'll hate yourself for it.

Come on here and rant and rave (the old fashioned rave not the house and garage stuff:rotfl:) - there's loads of help from people who have been there and got through it.
