    Hi Guys,

Sorry it's been ages since I last popped in, but I hardly think of ciggies anymore so keep forgetting.. ss...

I have been reading through the thread and its great to see you are all still doing really well:T:T

Well, It's day 40 for me and hubby and we are feeling great, I cant believe we've got this far!!! Our patches have been reduced and we were a little worried that cravings would creep in, but, 'touch wood' they haven't and to be honest I dont think they will. Our rountine has changed so much that we don't even think about 'them' anymore.

Ive had a little trouble with bleeding gums whilst cleaning my teeth but someone recommended cordosyl so Im using that now, and it seems to be working.........
Ive gained a little weight but my doctors and consultant are clapping their hands at that .
Hubby is starting to cough up a bit of rubbish now, which I am so not looking forward too........

All in all, we are feeling fitter and glowing, the children are soooooo pleased for us:j
Ive taken to cooking our meals from scratch as for some reason processed and ready meals taste absolutely disgusting now:confused: or it could just be that Ive got more time on my hands now lol:rotfl:

We went shopping today and the amount of people we could smell smoke on as we were entering or leaving a store was unbelievable, we used to be like them, having a ciggie before going in or leaving a shop. That time wasted that could have been spent on SHOPPING!!!!:rotfl::rotfl:

I promise to keep in touch more regularly and keep up to date with you all!!!

Keep going guys................ if I can do it anyone can:j:j:D

Brilliant news about you both Kezza!! :T You've done so well and deserve to be feeling so great about yourselves! I was so thrilled to read how pleased your children were, they know just how amazing their parents are, you see!

No idea why but gums can start bleeding after quitting, but Cordosyl is about the only thing that works to cure it. Disgusting taste, but works! Just because hubby is coughing up some rubbish it doesn't mean you're going to. He possibly has more down there than you, but once he's got shot of it, that's it! IF it should happen to you as well, it's far better to cough it on up and get it out rather than not do!! The reason why processed and ready meals taste so disgusting now is possibly that before, they still were BUT you weren't able to taste them properly due to being smokers.

Keep up that great work Kezza & Mr Kezza, you're 40 days closer to an amazing goal and look how far you've come already!:j :D :T

I may have an answer to the bleeding gums question. Apparently when you are smoking it stops the blood supply to the gums, which is why gum disease is a silent disease and stops so many people going through the gingivitis stage. This is where the gums bleed as an indicator that there are problems.

Kezzae, this is a good sign in that you have a warning to keep your teeth scrupulously clean, so do that and floss floss floss. Better still use the little Tepee brushes.
If you haven't already done so, book in for a scale and polish and mention the bleeding to your dentist. You may have a build up of tartar, which if it is under the gums, can cause gum disease.

I was not so lucky :(

Morning all. Another week of not smoking in the bag. Sorry to report, no weight loss this week. It is harder (for me) to do the weight thing. Hope to do better this week!:o

  • Hi all

Just popped in to see how everyone is doing. I am now on week 9 and so far so good. Keep reminding myself how one will lead to two and so on. I never want to be a smoker again! Haven't had a chesty cough or any of the other side effects of stopping smoking, only some bleeding gums but that's stopped as well. Can have a glass of wine now without being desperate for a cigarette to go with it, and the wine actually tastes nicer now. The one cigarette I dreaded giving up was the one first thing in the morning, but can honestly say that I don't even think about it now. Can actually enjoy a lie in at the weekend without waking up desperate for a smoke! Still feel light headed at times though, I thought that would have passed a long time ago but might be something to do with the NRT.

Anyway good luck everyone and keep it up! Remember "Never Quit, trying to Quit!"

Hi everyone. Keep on keeping on, we're all doing really well!

I suffered for the first month with a pain in the arris cough and throat but that's but a distant memory now. Come to think of it my gums might have bled a little bit for a while but no problems now.

Sue I go away again in November so that's something to look forward to. With the proceeds of the savings from not smoking - I have been putting some money away by standing order each month - not all of what I spent on a fags but a fair bit.

Went out Sat night with the girls I don't get to see that often, all together anyway. They were v surprised cos I was always fag ash lil. Thing is there were 8 of us and no smokers (yet 5 of us used to at some point or other) in the group. Imagine if I'd still been smoking, going out to sit on my own every half hour for a puff? I'm so glad I don't do that any more!

I'm looking for some urgent support please. I have given up smoking, stopped yesterday and just now I feel like punching someone, I have smoked fresh air through a rolled up paper, chewed the gum and still feel like a cigarette, I have none in the house, but I could walk to the shop and get some if I need too. The kitchen sink is blocked and the cupboard is soaking wet and swollen underneath, my husband is late home, so I am constantly mopping the water up, I need a cigarette and a glass of wine.....or do I?

And breath deeply.....I'm much better now. I have just read a deepy sad post on the giving up alcohol thread, the one were her husband died through a drink problem and its put everything into perspective.....

back to the gum and smoking fresh air, I owe it to my children.

Well done Washer - you did good. Only sorry I was not online to reply earlier.

Hmm I know that feeling about wanting to punch someone. I posted a while back of being so angry and thinking I would either smoke or stab someone!!!!! So you are not even as bad as me!:)

Hope you can relax a bit more now. You are in very early days - it will get better, promise.

Thanks for the bleeding gum news larmy, it's always good to hear the reasons for such things. It certainly makes great sense, good to have the remedy too, many thanks indeed! Don't worry too much about the weight loss, at least you haven't gained at all. Are you drinking enough water to fill up on? If so, how about a little more exercise maybe? It'll sort itself, you'll see.

Marvellous news magicgirl!!! :T You're doing so very well. I'm so pleased you're at the stage where you can comfortably have a glass of wine without it affecting you now. Keep on going magicgirl, you're doing just great!

Thanks for putting me straight about the next holiday SandC, lovely to look forward to!

Hi WASHER and welcome. I'm so sorry no one was here to help you out just when you needed it so much. However, you got through it alone and did marvellously, so very well done!! I think a lot of us can relate to wanting to lash out at someone, I suppose it's natural in a sense, so long as we don't carry it out!!! Keep breathing deeply at the weaker times and keep your little ones in mind always, they're such a help, especially when we're doing it in part for them anyway! Read through the PM, there are good tips there.

You're right about the poor lady who's husband died from a drink problem though, it does help us realise our issues with quitting aren't quite as bad as we fear they are.

Congratulations AB, 18 months is terrific! :T D'you ever hear from MFDaughter?

Keep on quitting everyone, if AB can do it, you all can! Stay focused and determined.
