Day 8 and feeling a little bit 'run down' today:confused:.

I had my first craving this morning but I just found something to do and it passed, I told myself I had come this far and thought about all the money we had saved and that seemed to help the craving go. I don't even know why I felt like one because when I actually thought of a ciggie it made me feel sick, if you know what I mean?

Hmm I guess Im Just having one of the bad days, I don't feel as spritely as I have done but I am determined that I am not going to give in, there's no way on this earth that Im gonna let hubby win!!!:D

Hope you are all having a good day!!!

I love being a non smonker!

Day 29 and it suprises me when I remember I used to smoke! Allen Carr is brilliant, I'd recommend him to everyone! Seriously, I haven't had a craving, and the only difficult days were the first few. Lovely!

Good Luck to all those quiting at the moment too, you can do it! :)
  • Maybe i need to re-read my allen carr book as i'm stillllll craving so badly i feel like i'm at breaking point everytime i'm in the shop i'm so tempted to buy smokes :(

Oh my god don't buy any! I must say that the Allan carr method has worked for me in that I'm not craving however I feel like I'm in a bit of a daze most of the time like I'm in some sort of protection mode against me smoking but is fine. Only down side is the drinking. I could murder for one so I'm laying off the wine still x

Katie, just tell yourself you are dealing with the powerful psychological addiction and this is how it manifests - in a craving. Believe me I know how you feel and I also know how the addiction will look for any crack in your armour to give you an excuse to light up. Good luck x

  • Hello all, hope no-one minds me sticking my nose in. :D Yesterday was 1 year smoke-free for me..after numerous unsuccessful attempts over the years of kicking the habit, I'm hoping this will be my last ever quit. I quit after an asthma attack had me hospitalised, for me the motivation for giving up the ciggies was to not have to fight for every breath.

It's been a hard slog and I know its by no means over...I just wish I had found a lovely supportive thread like this when I was first quitting. I wasn't a heavy smoker, only smoking about 10-15 per day.

For me the best thing about giving up smoking, is not having to wash my hair, my hands, my clothes etc constantly and never worrying that I stink of smoke. I enjoy going shopping without the worry of when I'll be able to go out and have a cigarette. During my first weeks of quitting, I found it helpful to make a list of reasons why I was quitting - so when I felt strong cravings it would put me back on the straight and narrow again. I'm also enjoying having a healthier looking bank account! My quit meter was a massive motivator for me...seeing how many cigs I would have smoked now makes me feel ill, and its amazing how quickly the money saved mounts up.

My next challenge will be shifting the weight I've stacked on because of not smoking.

I wish you all the best of luck in your quits, and huge congrats to what you have all achieved so far!!!

My internet came back today after being away since my last post (damned T-Mobile,they're useless at laptops/internet!) anyway - TODAY IS MY 2 WEEK MARK!

Last Sunday I was out with the boyfriend and best mate at a comedy club, they went out for a fag and I went with them for some air. Decided to have a draw of mates fag to prove to myself I didn't want it - it almost made me sick. Which was probably a risky thing to do,but it's only made me MORE sure that this is the best thing I could be doing.

I look way healthier/younger already, bags under my eyes are going.

My skin is breaking out though..which is quite crap. Anyone else have this?

    Also,these patches itch like hell..
  • Well done to everyone who's quit or in the process.

It really does make a difference to life - so much more enjoyable - its the little things that folks point out that suddenly hit you. Someone mentioned about going shopping and waiting to go out to have a cigarette - that was me in so many different situations, just struck me when reading the thread.

My experience of Allan Carr's method has been great - virtually no cravings and where did I find the time to smoke?

Another positive for so many is the cash saved - if you don't believe me just check out the price of a packet of fags here - they seem to have shot up in price since I was a smoker.:rotfl:

Hi and welcome coffeeholic and many congratulations on staying free for a year!!!! :T You've done marvellously and really deserve to be experiencing that delightful freedom you achieve after becomeing a non-smoker! If your name happens to suggest you drink a fair bt of coffee, then be careful as it can often stir things. Try other drinks and just a few coffees.

Hi Emzycal. Sounds to me as though you're allergic to the patches as you shouldn't be having such skin problems. See your Nurse or Pharmacist and ask to try a different make and see how you go there; one of the other girls had the same problems and changed to another make and has been fine since. Don't persist with it whatever you do!

Great to see you back SandC!!! I hope you had a wonderful time with great weather. I can't see you giving into complacency somehow, far too much to lose now after all the time you have behind you and I think you love that title of being a non-smoker too much to allow yourself to slip! Keep up that inner strength SandC!!

You are doing GREAT allthatmularky!!! :T I hope you're feeling so very chuffed with yourself and all you've done. It's SOOO very good to be free from it all, brilliant work!!!

Very well done indeed to AnnaMonkey & funkymonkey!!! Two very clever primates here and both chasing a dream that will be yours! Keep it up girls, you're doing so very well indeed!!!:T

Keep strong kezzae! You've done amazingly so far and WILL keep doing so once you're past this little wobble. So many others experience the same short spell that you are, espcially after getting off to such a wonderful start so you're completely normal. It usually just the old habits messing with your head, almost a subconcious thing. We all smoke for so long that it's little wonder it affects us in this way - BUT - it'll be short-lived kezzae, juct focus hard on other things. Get plenty of exercise, fruit and find something to do at your most vulnerable times, get out a photo album, jig-saw anything similar! Keep strong!

Don't worry Katie as you most certainly WON'T be plagued with fag thoughts for the rest of your life. Weather the storm and you'll soon be amazed at how quickly you'll be passed this time of old nick still messing with your mind. Don't allow it to win Katie, it has no right to rob you of any more of your life, no right at all - be strong and tell him that every day. If it helps then punch he*l out of pillows, cushions or something similar. Also, get on out and walk briskly, jog or run as much possible and stamp each step over nick so you knock him right into the ground!!! You CAN beat it Katie, and you have ALL of us willing you on to do so and we WON'T be giving up - so don't YOU!!!

Hi ecosse306 and welcome to the thread and your new life! I've tried to send you a PM with helpful tips, but it says you don't wish to receive PMs. If that's the case, then fine, but all too often new members haven't known they have PMs disabled. So if you'd like a PM, just give a shout.

For now, to get over the car problem, try to find something during journeys to distract you from 'those thoughts'. Chewing gum maybe or the odd sweet/mint until you over it which you soon will be! Maybe the radio or CD/tape would do it, or learn a language via CD's/tapes whilst driving. Perhaps just practising deep breathing might work for you, it all depends on what you did on journeys before, aside from the obvious!!

Have a great Friday all and look forward to another healthy weekend coming up! Stay strong always!

    Sue
