Thanks Sue
you are an inspiration you know
Health benfits are important, i have always said that as soon as i start trying for a baby (which i believe involves kissing people but of course, im too innocent to really understand
) i would give up becuase of the health risks to the baby etc.
Then i kinda found myself thinking, if i wouldnt subject anyone else to the danger and health problems why do i subject myself to it - random!
Well done Funky - you sound like you have really grabbed the quitting by the ballsDont worry about Saturday's slip up, the fact is that you would have smoked sooooo many cigarettes between now and then if you were smoking that those couple of puffs is miniscule in comparrison.
Just think, that even those couple of puffs will be out of your system now, your body is already back to repairing itself0 -
funkymonkey wrote: »Morning everyone! Well I'm on day 4 and feeling great! Obviously Saturday night was a disaster but that's in the past! Monday on the way to work I found one in my car and should have chucked it out the window because I leftit there and that's all I could think about all day! Got in my car after work, lit up had two puffs and was nearly sick. It made me feel awfull I threw it right out the window! It was a silly reminder of the poison that these things have in them.
Anyway apart from that idiotic slip up of a couple of puffs, I've not had one since Saturday night. Been putting my five pounds away and have 20 In the bank!
Good luck puzzled and everyone else.
And many thanks sue xx
2 days is a good effort. You left the ciggie in the car as part of you wanted to smoke it.
Just done 6 months today!!!!:T:T
Will power, talking, and NEVER HAVING A SINGLE PUFF0 -
Good to see you again Graeme and many congratulations on 1/2 a year smoke-free!!!:T You've been excellent right from the start and remained so strong no matter what. I'm absolutely sure that you will never, ever again even think of smoking, you know that life's too precious!!! Brilliant Graeme, you've about cracked it completely, do let us know when your year is up though....yes, I know you'll get there!:T
Oooh Funky, you took one heck of a risk there....and were extremely lucky it left you feeling bad, it could so easily have been the other way though! Still, it doesn't sound as though you'll go in for a repeat of it all. You're right about Saturday night being a bit of a disaster, but it was all so new then...and look how you've done since then! :jYou should be so very proud of yourself, you're overcoming a mountain, but we shall be there to greet you at the top! Til then we'll be right behind you all the way!Stay strong Funky and beat this for good...and you KNOW you can!!
How very wise indeed Puzzled! When someone thinks it all out as you've done, they're ready to go the whole hog and beat it...and remain healthy, especially for the sake of little ones. What a goal to go for Puzzled and I'll bet it gets you through it! Stay strong and keep thinking baby!!! :T :j I believe kissing comes into baby-making, my DH's just said there's one he*l of a lot of kissing to get through though....I won't tell you what he said after that!!!
Keep right on with getting your healthy lifestyles back again everyone, you CAN all do it, just as so many folks on the 2 threads we've had so far have done. Thanks Jo for helping SO many to achieve what you wanted for you!:T

DaY 5 £25 in bank and feeling better and better each day! I've lost that pannick feeling now.
I tried one of those lozenges yesterday and they are foul! It was a niquitin mint one off a friend and it burnt the back of my throat! It soon got spat out which is good because I don't want nicotine in any form.
My OH is doing amazingly well and hasn't smoked since Saturday and keeps reminding me that he had a brilliant night out and didn't miss them once but I'm not gonna be drinking for a while. I'm happier not drinking if it means I won't be tempted.
Thanks for all your support eveyone. And sue I know it was really silly with the ciggy I found in my car. I just couldn't chuck it away And thought about it all day. Won't b doing that again!#113 12K in 2020 Challenge #113 £17,103/£12,000 £150000 -
Day 6 £30 in the bank (it soon adds up doesn't it!), well yesterday was the best day ever! I didn't really think about ciggies very much and the couple of times I did I thought "thank god I'm not smoking"! Probably helped by the fact my hayfever is so bad I can hardly breathe. Went out for dinner and didn't "crave" onE at all afterwards. I'm starting to realise how silly I've been smoking all these years! Anyway good luck today everone that needs it. This forum is great support!#113 12K in 2020 Challenge #113 £17,103/£12,000 £150000

Well,not exactly.
My boyfriend and I got our Niquitin patches yesterday, the 24 hour ones,so we're now on the 10 week programme.
Unfortunately,he had a fag about ten minutes ago cause he's stressed out - but I don't actually even want one.
I've wasted almost 6 years of my life on smoking. It's flared my asthma up,made every cold feel like the plague, made me stink, and robbed me of a lot. I'm not going to let it take any more from me.
Has everyone else got a list they look at when they feel a relapse coming on? Here's mine ;
1 ) Though I'll never be Jennifer Love Hewitt or Marilyn Monroe - my skin, hair and teeth will look ten times better.
2 ) It will help in my quest to become a size 8-10 as I'll actually be able to go running outside without having an asthma attack - and, won't have to pay to go to the gym because I'll be able to handle the cold/hot a little better.
3 ) My feet will no longer have a grey-blue tinge to them,or feel like blocks of ice - my legs won't have a strange coloring to them.
4 ) I'll have so much more money.
5 ) I won't be taking the risk of robbing myself of the family I desperately want to have one day - through infertility or miscarriage.
6 ) My siblings and cousins will have one less adult in their lives who smokes - one less influence.
7 ) I won't have to hide it from my Dad or avoid staying at his house anymore incase he catches me - I won't have to be ashamed of him finding out, because there won't be anything to find out.
8 ) Cigarettes etc. are tested on animals - I don't use other products that are tested on them,so does it make sense to smoke cigarettes that are?
9 ) I'll finally be able to have 100% control in my life - knowing that the challenges I face and conquer,I've done so myself - without the crutch of nicotine.
So,today is day two.
I'm pale as hell and a bit sweaty/dizzy - but, that could just be down to the heat.
A little disapointed that the boyfriend has had a fag,but if he'd rather do it that way (at least he admitted he dosn't feel much better!) then let him - we'll both do this.
I'm glad of the internet right now - so much inspirational stuff out there that I'm 99.9% sure I'm staying firmly on the wagon this time.
Keep up the good fight, ladies and gents!0 -
hi emzycal - you are doing really great to quit smoking and your list is a great idea!
have you thought about putting the money aside to watch it grow each day?
One thing i learned this time round is you have to do this for yourself not other people! my other half has been solid in his quit - not once strayed off the path, however the night we quit i had a hissy fit and smoke a couple of ciggies and expected him to say "sod it" and smoke some too, instead he said "im not going to smoke" and he got me back on track!
anyways there are loads of people on here that will give you support so all the best!#113 12K in 2020 Challenge #113 £17,103/£12,000 £150000 -

Thanks. There are loads of amazing sites - I never realised how easy it would be to find motivation and support online - everyone I know smokes,so going online is my only option for that.
I've not done the money thing,we've just taken half of what we would have spent on tobacco for the next fortnight each (we'd normally spend £30 ish so thats £15 each - enough for me to get a few things from Lush!) but I think we will start saving next pay day,as I want a holiday as a reward next year!
And,yeah. My boyfriend has just went downstairs and outside for another fag - strangely,I don't care - I don't want one. How odd. I put one in my mouth to test myself earlier and it felt totally alien and awkward.
So,hopefully he'll get on track - if not,I'm a bit worried.0 -
Those people who are starting a pot of money. How about spending some of it having your teeth scaled and polished by the dentist. Mine only charges 29.00 and that is private. Once you have had that done and your teeth are looking and feeling cleaner, it will be more incentive to keep off the yuckythings.
Just a thought.
I think I passed the 8 week mark but it may be 9 as I have stopped counting. No patches, nothing. I still have to deal with the weight I put on, but I know I can tackle that. Been a bit too hot recently to be putting exta pressure on myself, but I know my mind is working up to another change. I am so glad to be smoke free.
Keep it up all of you.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Larmy, that is a great idea!:T I was always one of those folk who, each time my teeth were checked, cleaned etc, would always think....maybe now would be a great time to do it - which would have been right...sensible too.
I'd hang fire for a good 4 - 6 hours and then stupidly cave in - til the next time!
So folks, take heed of what larmy suggests and use the money wisely to really give you a spurt on!
Funky, you really are doing brilliantly and already have so much to be so proud of, your OH too. You've come so far in this past week and you couldn't sound more determined if you tried! Keep strong and keep going Funky as you know you have all it takes to do this for good.......your good!:T
Hi Emzycal and a warm welcome to the thread. Well, you've already done what we advise everyone to do when first dtopping, and that's to write down all the reasons why you should quit. Good for you as you're already in a great frame of mind! :jKeep looking at that list whenever you feel a bit like one, it'll help you through. Also, keep it written large enough (bot not too large) for your BF to see as a few of those reasons, if not all, apply to him also.
I thought it was lovely to see how you respect your Dad so much, do it for you, do it for your baby/babies and do it for your Dad!!! Don't worry too much about your BF as hopefully, once he's seen you get past a few days, he'll start thinking (believing) that he too CAN do it. If he quits but doesn't say he has done so then say nothing to him as he's probably testing himself to see how far he can get by himself rather than to be seen as 'failing' so soon - if he were to not be able to quit yet. I hope that makes sense.
Another fresh day folks and a day closer to a really fresh you..AND..a day closer to your goal to be completely free of all the evils smoking brings! Go on everyone, you KNOW you can add your names to all the other successes on this thread alone!
