Hi all, this weekend I face probably my biggest test as a non-smoker as my OH and I attend a wedding today with lots of food and drink, then tommorow I go Horse Racing on a mates Stag Do again with the drinking...Alcohol has always been my weakness when it comes to smoking, a few beers and I am usually looking for ciggies...

HOWEVER, due to my will to never smoke again and the inspiration I gain from all the posters on this forum I am utterly determined that I will not even consider doing the unthinkable this weekend, so much so I've probably wasted 5 minutes of my time typing this and 5 minutes of your time reading this, lol.

    Stay smoke-free...Paul.

Good luck Paul! I stopped drinking many years ago when I was trying to stop smoking.

I went back to the Nick many times, but never resumed drinking so I suppose it was a good thing in a way.

  • Once you've done the alcohol/smoke free thing once, all the times after are a doddle, so good luck for this weekend, just stay determined and it will be easy.

I'm having another bash at it too. :o

Last cigarette 1st June. No nicotine replacement, just the good old-fashioned "not-putting-cigarettes-in-my-mouth-and-lighting-them" method.

It's been a doddle so far, because I've stayed off the beer. I've had to quit drinking for the simple reason that alcohol will make me pull someone's arm off for a smoke, and impairs my ability to make rational decisions. I will, however, be having a couple of beers this afternoon watching the Bristish & Irish Lions.

Advice for Paul: It might be difficult at the wedding & stag-do - try not to drink too much - beer has been the single reason for every one of my failed attempts to quit. Tell your mates first, too. If they're proper mates, they'll keep an eye on you, just to be on the safe side. ;)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

You're welcome Larmy, you'll get there....so long as you live the sweet stuff aone!

Well done everyone! It looks as though you're all determined to keep off the booze as well as the smokes. Both take a lot of doing, especially if you've been used to doing the two at once in times gone by, so congratulations to you ALL and keep it up.

Welcome to a smoke-free life mrbadexample! You are doing brilliantly and sound as though you're totally determined to quit and stay that way. :TWonderful news!

You had me really perplexed...worried to in your post Paul. Because of the way it's written I read it as "....then tomorrow I go Horse Racing on a mates Stag" You had me thinking all sorts til I read the word "Do" on the next line!!:o

I hope everyone kept to their word and saw it out, never worth not doing so.

Shelly - you've done SO very well, 94 days is fantastic!!!:T

Another £5 that you haven't put up in smoke dizzybee! What a waste before, but NOT any longer!!!

Have a beautiful Sunday everyone and keep praising yourselves as what you've achieved is BRILLIANT!!! :T

Well, I got through yesterday. :D

Not without throwing the cuddly lion at my mate's telly after a lousy refereeing decision, which got me into a bit of trouble. :o

Fortunately, I was able to blame beer & lack of nicotine. :D

And you are already a non smoker. How cool is that?

You know, it took me so long to see smoking for what it really is. In my last quit attempts I still envied people who were smoking. I would think oh lucky them, they can still do it - I am being deprived! Crazy thinking. But that is how Nick affects you.

Now I see people walking down the street having a fag and I think, how awful that they have got to do that to stop that awful feeling of needing one. I really now do see that it is a drug addiction, like any other. You have to do it for your body to feel ok!

This has been a major shift in my thinking about nicotine. The scales fell away from my eyes finally!!!

Let's face it, it is becoming more and more inconvenient to smoke and it is worth it to get this ghastly thing out of your blood system.
