Well done all, I'm into my seventh month of no smoking :j and I'm feeling so much better :T. I read the Allen carr book and thought that's it lets give it a go . trouble is like most people I too can't stop eating thank god I go the gym three times a week
.
Best of luck everyone0 -
Woooo! I made it through a full day without a smoke!
Thank you for the PM Sue, it's a really good read and I'm sure will be very helpful!!! I bought some orange juice so I'll see how it goes.
At the moment I'm not really craving - I don't actually want a ciggy. But my arms feel really restless, I just feel like I want to shake them, or to get up and run around! I'm at work so it's not really an option. I know it'll go away sooner or later but it's driving me insane!!!!
I'm making sure to keep busy too, I have lots of cleaning waiting for me at home. Fabulous!
YAY!!!!!0 -
Hey guys.
Well Day 10 for me, I have just been to my Smoking Cessation appointment, I blew a 2 on the Carbon Monoxide reader which is YAY but alsoat the same time lol cos I blew a 1 last week, according to the nurse anything under a 6 is a non-smoker, and she thinks the increase is just off the car fumes and passive smoking (OH smokes, not around me usually but I have stood with him while he has smoked the other day)
They have taken me off the patches now though cos I am actively trying for a baby and they dont want me on the patches.
So from now, no more patches for me, they have given me a spare inhalator and some more cartridges, so I need to see how I go on just that
They said if I really feel the urge to smoke and the inhalor doesnt work then to stick a patch on (I have 3 spare at home)
But I am going to try my hardest to not put one on as I don't want to harm any unborn child of mine (even though I might not actually get pregnant for months lol I dont want to risk it)
So this is another week for me, but a different one, let's see how I get on, I am still feeling 100% positive about it all, I am determined and I know I can do it!
Being on the inhalor alone now will be good for me, cos it will prepare me for my hols when I probably couldn't have wore the patches anyway
Good luck for the next week everyoneDebt £30,823.48/£44,856.56 ~ 06/02/21 - 31.28% Paid OffMortgage (01/04/09 - 01/07/39)

Just posted once before on this thread - have followed the standard on this post (or seems to be) posting my method and since when - I mention this because I found it difficult to remember when - I'm not counting the days since it seemed easy.
My reason for posting is this - I did find it easy and just wonder if my experience might be of use to others. I notice quite a few others used the Allen Carr method and seem to find a bit of a struggle.
I don't know if reading the book as opposed to listening to the audiobook may account for the fact I found it easy and others are having difficulties - I listened to the audiobook and it seemed virtually immediately the cravings stopped ...... I had a few pangs for the first two days (as explained by Allen Carr) and then virtually nothing.
I don't know if listening may suit others rather than reading - but probably worth a try.
I've been impressed with all the support offered by regular posters - folks like Sue-UU, etc - there seems to be some really good support on this thread.0 -
Many congratulations saracox!! :T It's really great to hear how long you've given up for, how much better you're feeling for it too. I'm positive that exercise is one of the greatest ways of quitting, certainly if we eat a lot too! Thanks so much for letting us know, it's great for others to have the incentive, much appreciated!
Well done AnnaMonkey, off to a great start I see! Thanks for putting the days not smoked for on the title bar, it's such a help, motivation for you too. The restless arms are all to do with the lack of nicotine, but to help when you're at work: Pop into the loo, shut the door and shadow-box for a couple of minutes, another one to help relax them is to push hard on the wall with them, sort of like a stand-up push up. Give both a go, I'll bet it helps!
10 days in and going very well kindofagilr! Don't worry about the CM reading, the Nurse really was right in saying about fumes, try to steer clear of traffic whenever possible, especially on your way to your next reading! I'm so pleased you're off the patches with trying for a family, what better motivation could you have for wanting to be a non-smoker now! All the very best with the practice runs, good exercise too!!!;)
Good to see you back again and dooing so very well allthatmularky, excellent news! :T Putting "Allen Carr - Day 46"on the title bar is perfect, thank you for that. As I've said above to Anna, it really helps us all keep track of where folk are when answering them. Don't worry about the exact number of days, at least it gives us all an idea. I was really delighted you put on feedback of how you found it with the Alan Carr's audio version, I hope it will really be of help to others. "SandC" said that she found it far better going to one of the clinics than reading the book, so like you, she too has had better luck with other ways, but still using Alan Carr.
I'm really pleased you've found the support given by regular posters so useful. I agree that it helps enormously when everyone helps others on their way, most of the time they don't realise just how much they're also helping themselves! Personally, I'd loved to have had somewhere similar to come when I was quitting, but that was 10 years ago and things were different then. For now, I just love helping people to quit as I used to be terrified of all that smoking was doing to me and I can't help but feel there must be plenty of others with those fears desperately wanting to quit and if just 1 or a few can be relieved of those awful fears by me giving time to help them give up, then I'll be thrilled to bits! :jFear is an awful thing, especially when it's brought upon by a vice such as smoking, I feel ecstatic NOT to have that fear now and know others could feel the same!
I'm still rooting for each and every one of you and if willing people to quit is able to get them to do so, then you should ALL be able to go the entire jouney and end up as far happier, healthier people!! Go on everyone as you know you CAN!!!

Thank you SueUU!!
Shadow boxing here I come!
I'm always slightly worse in the afternoon/evenings as well, I think it's because I never used to smoke in the mornings before work so in my mind I don't 'miss' it quite as much. The weekend will be interesting, I always used to get up, make a coffee and go straight out for a smoke! I shall be strong!
What helps me a lot is the thought that if I just have one it'll take me back to the the beginning again, and I'll have to go through 'Day 1' again! Now that really would be awful! Fingers crossed for me.
The fact that we don't smoke in the flat helps a bit too - though what doesn't is that my OH is a smoker! but he's now started reading the book so hopefully he won't be soon.
Well done everyone else for getting so far! hugs for all0 -
Didn't get round to posting last night but still no smokes finding it a lot easier this time round.the patches made my arm itch and turn red so stopped using them will have a word with the nurse on tue still using the losagnes.

That is a great weight loss in just one week, kindofagilr, great news!
I do hope your OH gives it up too AnnaMonkey, you can then support each other really well too as yo both know what each other is going through. Having said that, it's the norm that men always seem to find it easier to quit then us gals! Just don't say too much (if anything) and let him come to the decision, that way he'll find it far better to do.
You're the same as kindofagilr's as she's also hoping her OH will soon be joining her. Just goes to show they need us first....to show them the way!!! To help you stay strong Anna, think as you already are doing in that......."oh what a stupid waste" IF you went back and needed to start all over again! Every step you take and for every day you succeed, it's another closer to that sensational goal!!! Keep up that life-changing journey, health wise it's the best you'll ever undertake. Find as much cleaning to do over the weekend as possible, or go for walks and get plenty of fresh air.
Hi dizzybee and very well done! I was so very pleased for you that you're finding it a lot easier this time, great news! A fair few people have had problems with irritation and soreness with the patches; maybe the lozenges will be enough for you, see what the Nurse says and see what her advice is.
Have a great weekend girls, enjoy it and stay strong! Keep exercising or working! One thing to keep in mind is that you're not alone, there are plenty more on this thread and others nationwide, as well as worldwide, all heading for the same goal!

Hi all,
Just a few words of encouragment to the fellow quitters who get the Friday night feeling. I have now gone a fair few and quite honestly, the association has actually gone now unless I consciously bring it to mind.
Sadly, I have realised that I also have a serious chocolate/sweets addiction which was in addition to the nicotine one, but kept more in check because of nicotine.
So its on with the metaphorical boxing gloves for me as I am suffering from RSI or some kind of pulled muscle in my right arm, but I can still punch with the left. Thanks Sue for the pm.
Have a great smoke free weekend everyone. You know it makes sense and you deserve it too!:DGrocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
