hi all well today is my second day with out a fag i have given up in the past but started again but this time i will do it has some days i cant walk to the end of the road without feeling like my lungs are going to pack up.i am using the Lozenges from the nurse at the doctors and they seem to be working.i am going to pay the money i would spend on fags to one of my debts each day this way i can see where the money is going and in the long run i will be a lot nearer to clearing those debts.just need to keep busy in the evenings and i should be fine.i will keep popping back and reading how every one else is doing has this will keep me going.

    Another 2 + 1 very successful non-smokers back then!

Wonderful news with your 3 weeks Wesker :T and 4 weeks for you Paul as well as Sarah having quit for a week and a half!! :T What a great influence you were to her, it's so lovely to read about those who's partners have been encouraged to follow the healthy life. It's a day of successes and great news today and it's a joy to see......

.......and yes, I mean you also Katie!
Being on the 3rd day shows you'd still have nicotine in your system so drink plenty of water, eat tangerines, nectarines (if you can get any) or any sort of fresh orange as it helps clear the nicotine and keeps the cravings at bay. Well done with the exercise, keep it up! It was so good to hear your partner is being really supportive, some folk just can't be as they don't understand it, but if it's given freely then encourage it saying how vital it is to you and "maybe I CAN kick it this time, with your help!" That a gal, read through the AC book, anything to motivate you will do wonders!:D

Welcome back dizzybee! It's always wonderful to see someone trying again, so congratulations on your 2nd day! Stay really strong this time dizzy and keep thinking how vital your lungs are to you. I'll send a PM, please take note of the things that will help and keep reading here what the others are finding helpful. Keep flushing yourself through with water and keep going for short walks for now to help strengthen your lungs. At the same time as you're exercising you'll fill them with fresh air and exhale all the rubbish. Even when you're at home you can still keep deeply breathing, it has a good affect on the mind and brain as well as the lungs. Keep letting us know how you're doing every now and then and each post you put on, please could you say how many days/weeks free you've been by putting it in the title bar of your posts?

Thanks dizzybee, we all wish you the very best in succeeding this time round and will be willing you on. Get yourself free from the evils of fags, and get your lungs back into shape, you need them for life......YOUR LIFE!!!

Hi I am new to this thread and have smoked for a very long time. I have been reading about e-cigarettes as a very good way to still have some nicotine, something to do with your hands and you can slowly reduce the level of the nicotine. Have tried cold turkey, patches but so far no good . Any ideas please?

    Hey everyone

Day 8 here, I am doing fab, I am loving not feeling dependant on a cigarette! Its a great feeling!

Its really great having this support thread as well, it really helps.

I have to say I really havent had any cravings, and I havent eaten any worse than I did when I smoked, I currently attend the Slimming World class so I think that helps keep me in line with not eating rubbish lol

OH is nearly at the quitting point, I need to ask the nurses on thursday for a spare inhalor for my hols (my mate got a spare one last week so think I should be able to get one) to give to OH to help him quit, I dont want to give him mine in case I need it, and I def think I will need it on hols especially if I cant get the patch to stay on lol

Well Done everyone on quitting so far!

167 days now without any nicotine:T

It gets easier, and life gets better.
I very occasionally want a drag of someone's cig, but that goes after seconds. Most of the time I cannot understand WHY I smoked.
I am not trapped by ciggies any more

    Good luck

Forgot to say, I need constant vigilance. I always need to be aware that one puff (one solitary puff) will set off the cravings, and that I am hopelessly addicted to nicotine. However, by not putting nicotine in my body, I don't get the cravings!!

Hi Pobby and welcome to the thread and to getting your life back! If you think there's the slightest chance that the e-cigs will work for you then give them a try. Anything's got to be a darned sight better than being a slave to nicotine and risking your life! As you'll see, I've sent you a PM with tips, try them religiously as they really do work. Use Orange Juice for the first few days to help with the cravings, but be careful after that as too much sugar won't help. Try apples then and, if you think it's best, then slice them up and nibble away at a slice whenever you feel a craving. The same with carrots and celery, be a nibble eater with the right foods and you'll find things so much better.

Also try a handful of unsalted nuts to have a nibble on as protein will help too. Not too many per day though or you'll put too much weight on. Plenty of exercise is a must and breathe all that fresh oxygen in to fill those smokey lungs and imagine all the dirty particles flowing free from you with every breath you exhale! Keep as active as possible, that includes doing something with your fingers. You can find all sorts of things that are a comfort to fiddle with, some I'll leave to your imagination!!! Mainly you need to stay strong and NOT let the fags rule your life for a minute longer! Too much time for regrets if you don't! :( Strengthen your resolve to "not smoke today" every morning and clean you teeth as often as you need, sometimes just a bit on your tongue to mix with saliva and squirt around you mouth makes all the difference. Change your life round to combat times that aren't so easy. Come on here and give vent as often as you like, we'll always listen! Go on Pobby, this time quit for life - YOURS!!!

Wow Katie! You sound like a new girl today, a wonderful attitude! Keep it up and get yourself through this, you know it makes no sense NOT to!!:T The head could be due to just thinking about stress of quitting, but (here I go again ) drink more water as you could be slightly dehydrated. Housework is so therapeutic after quitting as you're making everything all cleaner and refreshed, just like you. Concentrate on how much better everything (including you) is smelling, they're all small things, but give you such a "feeling SO good" sense.

You are amazing kindofagilr, I hope you feel so very proud of all you've achieved so far, because you certainly should be! A very wise move with the inhalator, if they seem as though they don't want to give you one, explain why you may need it, they'll see the sense I'm sure. I do so hope your OH decides to try! Fingers crossed!:j

Hi again Graeme! Congratulations on 167 days as a non-smoker!!! :T You've accomplished so very much, so quickly and were adamant from the start, see how well it paid off!!! I'm delighted you don't forget to keep us informed of your progress, it's great motivation for all 'quitters in progress' to see how others have done. Keep it up Graeme...though I know just you will anyway!:D

Enjoy the rest of your day without that filthy rubbish in your lungs everyone and enjoy getting used to the you that you knew from way back!:D

How about the amount of days on the title bar? You've all forgotten today, too chuffed with your successes - and so you should be!:T
