I am going to try and put some of the money away, but we are nearing our overdraft already this month, and while I know I would have easily gone into the overdraft to buy cigarettes, I dont want to do that just to show how much I saved cos I would just have to pay it all back in if that makes sense lol?

I am going to keep a running total though of how much I would have spent in my signature.

I am feeling very pleased with myself lol, OH is still smoking (he is going to quit soon he says, I am not going to preach to him though cos I know you have to be ready to do it, to actually do it) and it didnt bother me one bit last night when he was going outside for a cigarette, I do have one of those inhalors as well, which the PCT told me to use if I get a real urge for a cigarette, I think I puffed on it twice yesterday, once after lunch and once after tea, so I am really pleased with that

Well done to all the other quitters on here :) I am going to spend some time to read through the previous posts and all your stories :)

Wow, there are some great success stories on here at the moment, congrats to all that have an anniversary, whether it be the amazing Lilly's 6 months, or a month, a week, a day or even an hour. Take each step and craving as it comes and deal with it. Don't think about the next one or previous ones, just get through the moment (which doesn't last as long as you think) and then move on. The cravings will become less and less, but don't ever become complacent as you don't want to get a craving when you would least imagine it months maybe years down the line and you don't know what to do about it. Plan ahead, especially in the first few months, keep yourself busy, keep away from trigger zones and reward yourself and praise yourself up for not smoking. Don't forget, all other smokers are jealous of your resolve, keep it up :D

    Hi,

So many newby quitters joining in - well done to all of you! Whether you're finding the quitting journey a doddle or whether it's a total torment, do please hang in there and you will come out of it the other end a happier, healthier, more pleasant-smelling richer person!

One thing that really helped my when I quit - and it hasn't been mentioned on here for a while so I thought I'd re-post - is the Silk Quit meter.

Basically, you plug in all your nasty smoking stats (how many you smoked per day, cost per packet, the date when you quit) and it gives you a running total of how long it is since you stopped, how many cigs you haven't smoked, how much money you've saved and how much longer you'll live because you've given up the filthy weed!

It really is a great motivator - I used to love watching 6 days click into one week and then three weeks into one month and so on and son! I still have mine running on my pc (6 months, 6 days, 14 hours, 15 minutes and 23 seconds and counting!) and although I wasn't a heavy smoker (maybe 12 a day) it shows I haven't smoked 2263 fags since I quit - YUK!!!!!!!!

    Download it at http://www.silkquit.org

    Keep going!

Hi again kindofagilr. Keeping a running total on your signature is a great way of keeping up to date with what you've saved, but still putting it to a wonderful use! Many quitters here have done just the same and whatever way you choose it doesn't matter so long as you keep an eye on the total NOT smoked! Far better doing it that way than going over your overdraft! It's great incentive....as your health is worth way more than all the money you've spent on it! Well done on only using the inhalator a couple of times as the less you use it, the less nicotine still going in, but after saying that, it's better to use it if it gets you through difficult times at the beginning of your quit, far better any day than giving up quitting! You say you're feeling very pleased with yourself and so you should be as you've done really well so far!! You've chosen the best way to handle your OH, the less you say the more he'll be thinking "Maybe I could do that." Fingers crossed for him to follow your lead....when he's good and ready! Stay strong kindofagilr!

Thanks so very much 3XsAlady, how terribly sad and never, ever worth it.

Hi kneeby and a very warm welcome to you! I have to admit to my heart going out to you when I saw your post, but let's hope you can have treatment to help you and mostly, that you can get through it all. I've sent you a PM, if you go by that and all the help and support you'll get here then, all being well we'll get you free from those dirty little devils before the 23rd! I know nothing warms the heart of a surgeon more than seeing a patient with health problems who takes the vital first step to be healthy asap! Come on here as often as you need to kneeby and it you're having a good day with quitting then tell us, if it's not a good one then have a moan or rant. Be 'you' and tell us just how you feel - AND a little further down the track - just how thrilled you are at having achieved kicking it altogether!!!! We're all here to help, use us and just ask! All the very, very best for the future without fags!

Very wise words indeed Jo and so very true! You also Lily and a brilliant reminder about www.silkquit.org thanks so much for that. Great to see you again feedum, 14 months is absolutely marvellous!!:T I'm no star at all, I just so want everyone else to be free from all that they hate about smoking - themselves too for ever having taken it up! I know how I once felt and I know how fantastic I feel now, so very worth the journey! Never mind though because Jo, Lily, Naomi, AB, you, me and SO many more are testament to the fact that it CAN be stopped and we CAN so easily keep it that way and be so very happy because of it!!!

All the very best everyone, you're yet another day further into being free and as Jo says each hour, day, week, month year/s is great and no matter how recently you quit, the main thing is that YOU did!!!

Hi all you new people and 'oldies' like me. Well done each and everyone.

Kneeby so sorry to hear of your diagnosis, do keep us posted as to how you are getting on.

I've just been chatting with a new colleague andmy stopping smoking came up and I did mention that if I could get through my dad passing away without starting again then my holiday wouldn't be a problem. She said that she wondered that when I said I'd been smoke free for 3 months. It upsets me a little that people are surprised that I didn't start again due to the stress of it all etc. but I can't really explain to people how the Allen Carr method just removes the need or want to smoke and that there is no such thing as a trigger time, event, or situation (If I could explain there would no need for clinics).

I don't know why it bothers me so much - is it an insinuation that I wasn't 'upset enough' over my dear father or what?

I guess it's probably because I can't explain it and never will be able to and only those who've succeeded using the same method as me will get it.

I may speak to the clinic leader about it - not that there is a temptation for me or anything like that but it's something I need clearing out of my brain I think.
