  • Ok, time to be honest! Lasted 24 hrs - but hubby had a bit of baccy left and just had one, which turned into two .... you know the rest! Turns out hubby has food poisoning (not good as he's a chef!) and I was left coping with him and the my two young dd's. Anyway today's another day. Hubby is at the docs - he's lost 11lbs in 6 days and looks absolutely dreadful, have got ebay things to post (why do people bid from abroad when you don't post there) and then going to take my girls to see my non- smoking friend for a few hours this afternoon. Hopefully this will keep me on the straight and narrow!

Can anyone tell me what this Champix thing is, and how you get it - do you need to sign up for smoking cessation groups and things like that before they will let you have it? Only asking because I'm back at work full time from next month and with two youngsters (hubby works long hrs) it's hard to do stuff like this. I don't have any family near or anything like that.

Well done SandC - am sooo jealous, which I was at a month - or even two days in a row!

    Hi all:)
I have given up the smokes:)
I used champix which my GP gave me:) no questions, just a quick check of my BP and he gave me the script and wished me luck!
I have had side effects like insomnia and sore sore heads....but it will be worth it:) I have saved so far nearly £18 in 3 days!!
    :jIm going to be frugal:j

    Beetlejuice Beetlejuice...................:rotfl:
  • My doc prescribed champix straight-off but I know people who have asked and have been refused or at least recommended to take patches first. I believe that the main thing to make clear is that you have tried the other routes already i.e. patches etc... good luck

I'm not sure the difference between champix and zyban?? I have heard mostly good reports from tablets from the doctor anyway - whichever they might be. But one chap I know who did great on them suddenly decided to have a ciggie on a night out some 6 months later and ended up back at square one. Another lady I know they made her sick so she had to stop taking them.

I am due my 3monthly appointment with the nurse (just the usual womens' stuff) this week and she's going to so fall off her chair when she asks the usual 'still smoking?' and I give her a negative response. :j Hope my BP is now down.

Still need to get more motivated and up and about but overall life is good and it feels like I've been a non smoker for a lot longer than a month.

I found Zyban really good too, unfortunately I did end up starting again after I finished the course. The champix course is longer, the nurse said there were less side effects with champix, although for me they were worse. I have to see a smoking cessation nurse each week to get the prescription (its 2 weekly now actually because I'm past 4 weeks on them now). They have been like a magic wand for me though :)
Well I can't stand by the side
And watch this life pass me by

Four months, two weeks, five days, 6 hours, 58 minutes and 13 seconds. 2805 cigarettes not smoked, saving £643.74. Life saved: 1 week, 2 days, 17 hours, 45 minutes.

Hi everyone, just checking in... haven't been here for a while. I quit at the beginning of December last year and haven't succumbed to any temptation - until last night! Had dinner and probably a little too much wine, felt a bit lonely and upset so took a doggend out of the ashtray (my 'kids' still smoke) and had three drags off it! OH MY GOD! What a fool!
I've failed in the past, thinking 'just the one wont hurt' so what the hell am I playing at?????

Just had to have a rant on here - thank goodness for this thread!

The other thing that I'm dissapointed about is that I have put on weight. I'm going back to Weight watchers tonight and will try and make this my next great obsession.

Thanks for being there - stay strong xxx
p.s. Good to see you Sue :Ax

So good to see you too joop!!! :D Let that alcohol induced blip go and get on with the great amount of time you've already covered in such a fantastic way. You should be so thrilled with all the statistics you've put above, so please just focus on that. After having done tremendously, especially amid smoking offspring, I'm thrilled for you and so very proud of your achievement, YOU be too!!! :T How about treating yourself to something special with some of the money saved, you deserve it. Make it something that you can keep in view to look at whenever you're feeling a little vulnerable. It too could help to be a life-saver!;) Just one thing, please ask the young'ns to keep anything ciggie related out of the way.

All the best with Weight watchers joop, give it all you've got and don't forget the water! ;) You know where I am if you need me.

    Sue x

Many congratulations on that brilliant first month SandC!! :T You've done so very well and must feel chuffed to bits and rightly so!

Hi Harriet, ok - back to the start and forget what's past. The others'l tell you about Champix as I honestly don't know too much about it, apart from it being very successful for many people here. If you go for it and can get it, explain about your lifestyle and, so long as they see you fairly regularly they may be ok with it. From what I hear though, needing to go to the clinics is a real boost for folk and they look forward to all the praise given out! Some Tesco's also do similar 'clinis'. I do hope your DH is soon much better, what a weight loss!!!

Very well done mumoffour77, you're doing a terrific job! Is the £18 going in your "pot"????! ;) Keep it saved whatever you do as it's great motivation!

Keep waving that magic wand over the others too Shelley! ;) Glad you also are getting on so wonderfully with Champix!

Another day coming up that, if you keep strong, you'll get through and be so proud of yourselves. Isn't it great not to be filling your lungs with dirty, stinking smoke and chemicals!!! You WILL do it, you know you will!

  • Day 12 of no smoking:j:j

I came off the patches last Monday as felt like I didn't need them! Still not much of an apetite though (didn't really have one before mind you!) no cravings, nice to beable to smell the perfume, not really noticing a difference on the money side of things as I didn't really smoke alot although it was weird walking into the shop that I used to mainly get them and not ask for them! I am sure the woman serving me wanted to say something:rolleyes:
Downside of being a non smoker is I am no able to smell the suite. It doesn't smell like stale smoke but more like stale fat:mad: sort of like the smell that lingers after cooking a fry up on a sunday! Any suggestions?

Excellent news devils_vixen!:T Wouldn't if be marvellous if everyone had your appetite handicap! Re the smell, there's only one answer, give it a good clean through, scrubbing at any stubborn stains or areas if necessary. I suspect though that it's just the way it 'seems' to smell as your senses return. For now however, have a good clean through, just as in a spring-clean, simply to freshen the place up. Aside from anything else it'll make you feel so good and get rid of any left over smoke.

What I wouldn't advise is to use aerosols, they're just spreading the home with chemicals and are only a temporary measure. Do it the lasting way, good luck and well done again!

Crikey- 12 days have gone quick- it only seems like yesterday you said you were joining us!

When you say ther suite? Do you mean your sofa etc? We have a leather one so that never really takes on smells, but in our last house it was the curtins that reeked  even after multiple washing. the only thing that really shifted the smell was wilkinsons "ironing water" in a spray repeatedly sprayed on. Plus if you have your radiators on- some essentail oil dotted on the top will waft over the room. I guesss water vacuum isnt a bad idea, does any of your freinds have one or you? We have one if you want to borrow ours no probs - we are in London though!

UNfortunately though, soft furnishings, will never truly get rid of smoke- or pet- smells. :(
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
