Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts I've been Money Tipped!
Thought it was about time I reported in again! Not feeling any better than a few days ago ... still got horrible cough (mainly at night), slightly sore throat and horrible "metallic" taste in my mouth. I seem to have a slightly white coated tongue, so pretty certain I've got oral thrush, which I've had in the past, so bought some gel just in case to see if that makes a difference.

Went out walking on Sunday and got two horrendous nose bleeds for (what seemed like) no reason at all. Thank god I went armed with tissues  Might have been due to the heat, having too many clothes on for such a warm day (and an early menopause ).

The good news is I'm thinking about smoking less and less now and don't have "cravings" as such. Must admit though I can't resist breathing in second-hand smoke when I get the chance and I still really miss it when I have the odd glass of wine!

Well done everyone and don't worry mazza ... a moment of weakness, which is understandable in the circumstances. You know you don't want to smoke, which is all that counts, and you've got straight back on that waggon, so well done icon7.gif

  • Hey guys, Well i can't believe its been 4 weeks (28 days)!!! Hasn't time just flown by! I guess on the 18th April i can say its been a month! then i can look forward to two months. I've slowly started writing less on this board but i have been reading everyday. I guess i don't feel the need to write everyday.

When i was away for the long easter weekend i did want to smoke, my OH and her parents were all smoking but i resisted. I stood by them when they smoked, for the first two days i felt sorry for them but then on the last full day all i wanted was a cigarette but they didn't let me have one (thankfully). However now i feel back to normal and there are no holidays/distractions for a while.

Mazza - you are back on the wagon, don't give up or beat yourself up about it, thats what the cigarette wants you to do. Carry on being strong, i think many of us would had done what you did. Good luck, keep posting and remember what Sue says, ice lollys help. I wish you better.

SandC -I've not had a dream for a while about smoking, i guess it will come and go. Just our brains trying to send us a message whilst we are sleeping but we are stronger than to wake up and think "holy sh*t give me a cigarette"

graemecarter - great work, you guys are the inspiration for us! Thank you for posting.

MimiJane - congratulations, you are one day ahead of me. feels good doesn't it!!! To me, it feels like i've never smoked now. very wierd feeling indeed.

viv0147 - Thank you for your story, i pasted it to my OH yesterday and she didn't have one the whole day! fingers crossed it lasts but only when she is ready.

Have a good smoke free day all

  • 3 weeks today, so I'm exactly a week behind you Dreamingalound, I pass the one month mark on the 25th.
I'm still finding it quite easy, probably because I am doing what graemecarter said and getting through each day at a time, each one is an achievement.
I'm thinking of coming off the champix because I do keep going whole days without taking any and it is murder trying to get an appointment with the stop smoking nurse at the moment. I rang yesterday for an appointment for tuesday next week and they had nothing until next friday (when I am at work). I still want to stick to the 12 week course though, I still think it'll help me give up permanantly, but I am only on the low dose tablets so who knows. I'm also not using the inhalator at all now, although I only puffed on it about once a day anyway.
Don't worry about your one cig mazza, at least in a way it's proved to you that you don't have to rely on them anymore, hope your arm is better soon, you should heal quicker now with all that extra oxygen in your blood!
Well I can't stand by the side
And watch this life pass me by

Thnx for all the words of support guys, I haven't had one today, but have been pulling my hair out, can't go for my bath or swimming to get rid of it all, AAAARGH, I won't have one tho, I've had my one slip and no more!!!! Just feel i've let myself down by having that one, but no i won't give up!

Do any of you who are on champix have that feeling at the back of your throat as if you have just had a cigarette or is it just one of those weird things affecting me?

  • I haven't had a smoke since Jan 5th and i'm well over the hump. I do remember how tough it was tho, i'd like to say to people giving up it does get easier - a lot easier. Give it a month and you'll be wondering what the fuss was about.

    Cheers

Hi everyone and I hope you all enjoyed Easter.

More successes building up here, it is so good to come on after a few days and see so much great thinking, even when you're going through tough(ish) times. The main thing is that you stay true to yourselves and that's worth so much! Well done All! :T

Hiya Graeme, what a time you've gone for and how delighted you sound about it all, a new life!!!

Applause for you too Dreamingalound, you made it through the Easter break in Portugal and should be so very proud of yourself spent in the company of 3 smokers!!! Wonderful news that they helped you take control on the one day too!

Mazza, forget the 'blip' and move on with the same amount of days you were on before. One cig at a time that you went through is not going to make you go back so just push ahead and erase it all from your mind. I hope your arm's soon much better.

Neenie, you could be at risk of becoming a little complacent, but the weekend problem sounds as though it could simply have just been the length of the weekend, a little boredom when life is 'different'. You also have your OH smoking so that, maybe unknown to you, could be a problem to take into account. Try going through all the things that help again, water, lots of fruit, ice poles and plenty of exercise - as hard as you can make it! Whenever you're struggling a little belt up and down the stairs or grab your coat and walk as fast as you can, as though you're late for an appointment.

Well done chris.hoops78!!! :T Thanks a lot for the post!!

Oooh Mimi, it does sound like oral thrush and if you've suffered from it before then it's quite possible that giving up could have kick-started it. Still, treat it and hopefully you'll soon feel a whole lot better. How about some mints to take away that awful metallic taste. For you and SandC, it sounds as though the coughs are due to the hairs growing back in and around the bronchials and causing it, try to ignore it as much as you can and I bet it won't bother you for too much longer. Stick with it girls, far better than sucking those blasted whote sticks anyday!!:D {Edit} I wonder if the nose bleeds could be anything to do with your sinuses Mimi, though you may well be right about the early menpause. Take care and have a word about it all with your Doc if necessary.

Have a good Thursday everyone and keep up the brilliant work that got you to where you are now. You've come this far so there's no reason you can't keep going with your eyes firmly on that goal ......it's fantastic to get to!!! :D :j

Thanks for the great advice Sue. Weekends are always a challenge for me. I find that in the week I hardly think about cigarettes now (apart from just as I finish work, but that'll go soon I'm sure). I'm so busy for most of the week that I don't have time to give it a second thought and when I do think about it it leaves my head pretty quickly. Then on the weekend I tend to slow down and give myself a break. I can't really call it "boredom" as it's this time I look forward to but it's definitely the time where I slow down, so I guess that's why it creeps up on me then.

I'll take your advice this weekend and go for brisk walks and lots of water.

I'm off work next week and visiting my grandmother in Wales (whose house is like a smoke box permanently because of her coal fire and smoking habit!). I hope I can keep it up during that time as we'd often spend our days chatting, drinking tea and of course smoking, and I haven't been to visit since I've stopped. Any advice on how to manage that would be gratefully received! It's her birthday
so I can't really put it off until I feel stronger

Anyway, I hope everyone else is doing really well!

I love popping back to this thread, should be here everyday like I used to be but have demons to face on other threads which is taking my time up :D

I am so proud of all of you on here for giving such a great effort, no matter how hard it seems and all the support you give each other.

Thanks especially to Sue, whom is always there for everyone :A

Good luck to you all, keep up the fantastic work :)

Aww Neenie_o that's gonna be hard for you. That part wouldn't bother me as long as there was plenty of coffee to replace the fags. My fella is still smoking around me, i am still hanging with the smokers at work, doesn't bother me in the slightest, but when i get stressed.....

I'm on holiday from work next week too, dunno what i'm gonna do with myself as i can't swim with this stupid arm atm.

Smoking cessation group tonight, so will see how far my carbon monoxide levels have came down with me only having the one.
