Sue - how long have you been a non smoker for? Whats your story?

Hi there Dreamingalound, though you're possibly snuggled up in bed over in Portugal and have really enjoyed yourself/ves, I really do hope so. I gave up cigs on Christmas Day 1998, so just over 10 years and 3 months now and I couldn't be more happy about having finished with them, my family too. I was so glad to finally be free of the weed as I really had worried myself silly about all the harm they were doing me.

With luck and your determination that'll be you saying all the above some day!:D

VERY well done whathavewedone!!! :T You sound as though you quit years ago. Maybe the zits are as a result of getting all the rubbish from under your skin, whatever it is, if it is smoking related it'll only last a short while. 13 days free from patches does mean you ARE nicotine-free and weaned off completely. What a great feeling!

VERY well done to you too Tisme!!! :T Don't worry, all of us who have got to where you are or further know EXACTLY how thrilled and excited you're feeling! :D
Well devils_vixen, you're well on your way to getting your health back and saving all that money too! Lucky you not having any feelings of 'having' to eat more!

Great going Shelley & Mazza!! It sounds as though you're both doing really well with your Carbon monoxide levels! Using your inhalator just for times when you get really stressed isn't bad at all Shelley, but as soon as you can do without the cartridges in at all, the sooner you'll be completely free of nicotine!!

All the best girls, I hope you're all enjoying Easter. Keep up the fantastic work!

    Day 7 Champix

Bad Long Weekend here. Would murder for a cigarette right now, no kids in the house atm and i don't know what to do with myself. Have been swimming a couple of times and done a lot of DIY that needed doing about the house. But another day has gone by where I haven't had one. I won't give up now as I think this first week will be the hardest part. Still hanging with the smokers at work, as their cigarettes are reminding me of the smell of pipe tobacco, it really smells nice, lol. Think that's the champix tho, when i smell it on them afterwards it really stinks!

Good luck for the coming week guys.

I had an awful long weekend as well and I really don't know why! Would have loved a cigarette despite having my inhalator at the ready at all times, and it just wasn't doing it for me.... I was around smokers, but I have been around them lots since quitting (my boyfriend smokes, but moved onto roll-ups as he knows I can't roll them myself and would be less likely to pinch one off him ). I just found this weekend really difficult

I think maybe I've reached the point where I think I'm safe from starting again and I'm getting complacent.... What does everyone else think? Is this likely to happen? All my other friends who are on the same programme as me at work are starting to find it easier; I'm finding it more difficult!

Glad to see everyone else is doing well still though

Keep up the good work!! :T

    xx

How do you feel about a friend who has to go everywhere with you? Not only does he tag along all the time, but since he is so offensive and vulgar, you become unwelcome when with him. He has a peculiar odour that sticks to you wherever you go. Others think both of you stink.

He controls you totally. When he says jump, you jump. Sometimes in the middle of a blizzard or storm, he wants you to come to the store and pick him up. You would give your spouse hell if he or she did that to you all the time, but you can't argue with your friend. Sometimes, when you are out at a movie or play he says he wants you to go stand in the lobby with him and miss important scenes. Since he calls all the shots in your life, you go. Your friend doesn't like your choice of clothing either. Instead of politely telling you that you have lousy taste, he burns little holes in these items so you will want to throw them out. Sometimes, he tires of the furniture and gets rid of it too. Occasionally, he gets really nasty and decides the whole house must go.

He gets pretty expensive to support. Not only is his knack of property destruction costly, but you must pay to keep him with you. In fact, he will cost you thousands of dollars over your lifetime. And you can count on one thing; he will never pay you a penny in return.

Often at picnics you watch others playing vigorous activities and having lots of fun doing them. But your friend won't let you. He doesn't believe in physical activity. In his opinion, you are too old to have that kind of fun. So he kind of sits on your chest and makes it difficult for you to breathe. Now you don't want to go off and play with other people when you can't breathe, do you?

Your friend does not believe in being healthy. He is really repulsed by the thought of you living a long and productive life. So every chance he gets he makes you sick. He helps you catch colds and flu. Not just by running out in the middle of the lousy weather to pick him up at the store. He is more creative than that. He carries thousands of poisons with him which he constantly blows in your face. When you inhale some of them, they wipe out cilia in your lungs which would have helped you prevent these diseases.

But colds and flu are just his form of child's play. He especially likes diseases that slowly cripple you, like emphysema. He considers this disease great. Once he gets you to have this, you will give up all your other friends, family, career goals, activities, everything. You will just sit home and caress him, telling him what a great friend he is while you desperately gasp for air.

But eventually your friend tires of you. He decides he no longer wishes to have your company. Instead of letting you go your separate ways, he decides to kill you. He has a wonderful arsenal of weapons behind him. In fact, he has been plotting your death since the day you met him. He picked all the top killers in society and did everything in his power to ensure you would get one of them. He overworked your heart and lungs. He clogged up the arteries to your heart, brain, and every other part of your body. In case you were too strong to succumb to this, he constantly exposed you to cancer causing agents. He knew he would get you sooner or later.

Well, this is the story of your "friend," your cigarette. No real friend would do all this to you. Cigarettes are the worst possible enemies you ever had. They are expensive, addictive, socially unacceptable, and deadly. Consider all this and NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF!

I feel after doing this the resolve I felt on day 1 of stopping smoking has returned and I know it’s important to keep reminding myself why I stopped smoking.

I am day 105 without smoking
Feel great, energetic, skin is glowing, sleep is undisturbed
I did cold turkey, and it is working for me.
    I am a non-smoker - I don't smoke anymore

I tell myself everyday that I am hopelessly addicted to ciggies, and that one puff will set off a craving. I tell myself just not to smoke for today. Tomorrow is another day.
I can do one day at a time - I don't know if I could commit to a lifetime.

    Good luck my darlings

Hey mazza how are you doing now?

When I had a little pang ( being on the PC is the worst ;) )I tried to do something that I owuld never do while smoking. I couldnt really think of many things apart from cleaning! But one thing I came up with was long pampering baths, paint the toenails etc. Not so good in the mornings! The other thing we did in the first couple of weeks was go out. the poor dog had never been dragged so much! Hope you are feeling better.

I wonder if its the champix??

I dont know much about it how long do you have to go on with it for, is it tablets, how many to take etc. i know the oH took the other tablets ( name escapes me) and it gave him horrendous sleeplessness so he only lasted a few days before stopping taking them & having a fag :(

However, hes doing much better now :T

AARGH i've failed miserably, had an accident yesterday afternoon, fell through some glass in the garden, ended up with 13 butterfly stitches in my arm, but seeing the blood and feeling faint, I had a cigarette, poor excuse i know. but i felt at the time that it really was needed. Now i am wishing i didn't. Although that one hasn't made me want to smoke again.. so i guess the champix must be doing something.

Well got up this morn, arm in agony, still don't want to smoke, so i guess that's a good thing.

Yes Lynzpower, I feel like i'm a mermaid the amount of time i'm sitting in the bath/pool. Guess that will be a nono now with the stitches  Think this week will be my biggest test.

Hi folks, it will be 4 weeks on Friday for me. Soooo know I am a non smoker now.

Sorry to hear you lapsed mazza, but it's not the end of the world. Back on track yeah?

I've still got this irritating cough and it's really getting on my wick now. It comes and goes but I still sound like a smoker even though I didn't have teh blasted cough when I did smoke!

Never mind. Had another dream last night and I was stood outside having a fag with the work smokers, going 'ah well, I managed 4 weeks'. Gawd was I relieved when I woke up!

Oh Mazza! Don't worry! It's just a blip, if you treat it as though you've failed you'll be off the wagon in a big way. You had an awful stressful day and you'd already had a bad weekend. I'm not making excuses for you but it's clear that you don't want to start again, so don't let it get you down! :D

I'm feeling a bit better today - but it was a tough old bank hol!
