  • Hi all,
Day 15 today, its going well and i am enjoying not smoking. Yesterday i had a bad moment and nearly bought some and started again. I had a mad stressful 5 minutes at work and i was so angry i was shaking! the first thing i thought was to go and smoke! I left my wallet at my desk and went outside for some fresh air and to cool down. It worked. I can't use these situations as an excuse. I am doing well and now i have to be strong and don't look back.

After work i went for a couple of beers and a Kebab so normal service resumed! Today i'm back to normal and happy again. I guess moments like that will pass and i just have to be stronger. I can't believe its been 15 days! I'm off to Portugal on day 22 with my fiancee and her parents who both smoke for the long easter weekend. It will be a test as three of them will be smoking all the time. I again just need to be strong and when i get through that weekend it will be coming up to a month! Hopefully that is enough to spur me on!

Hey Dreaming Aloud, you are doing so well you should be really proud of yourself. I too feel like its ages since I had a fag but it is just 2 and a half weeks for me. I have good and bad days but generally I am okay. I am so glad you didnt cave in yesterday , I havent faced anything really stressful yet, I have that to come. I hope you enjoy your break in Portugal at least you wont be cramming in as many fags as possible before you get on the plane

Does the Allen Carr method count as going cold turkey as there are no drugs involved?

    Hi everyone

Cold turkey is definatley the way to go. I'm still going strong after 4 weeks, without to many cravings. In fact, i don't think i've one in the last couple of days.

After the first week of going cold turkey i was all over the place though. I couldn't concentrate properly, my eyes didnt focus very well, i was walking around like i was spaced out, i wasn't getting much sleep at night either, but i managed to get through somehow. Believe me if i can do it, then i'm sure you can. I smoked for well over half my life and i thought that id never be able to give up. In fact i would smoke 2 cigarettes within 30 minutes of waking up! One with a cup of tea 10 minutes after waking up, then one after my breakfast before i got in the shower.

I had my girls around to stay last night and they told me how proud they were of me for giving up. I never smoked in front of them, when i did smoke, as i never wanted them to see me smoking and fall into bad habits. They are only 8 and 10, but i was shocked when the youngest one said when i put her to bed, "Daddy, you smell of mints, i like that more than you smelling of fireworks", i must have smelt quite bad i reckon.

Then, when i dropped them back this morning, i gave them a pound each to put in their piggy banks. Not much of a big deal you may be thinking, but it was to me as usually i never had enough loose change in my pockets, except for the money i was saving to buy my fags!

Anyway, if you are reading this thinking one day i should really try to give up. Then to give you a bit of motivation for giving up then do a google search for SMOKING THEY DIED YOUNG and click on the first link.
I looked at the story a couple of times when i nearly strayed in the first days and it made me more determind to kick the disgusting habit.
Be warned though, it may not be pleasing for some.

Best of luck everyone. Don't give up giving up.

Well I have set my quit date for Monday:eek: Though I have only had 6 today:D Bought 20 which will last until Monday morning!
Thought it would be better to do first day of patch when I now I will be busy. Normally only work half days but will be at work most of the day though I will miss my fag after work!
What will I do with my hands when walking to the bus stop?

    Ok make that 7:rolleyes:
  • I think I'm getting weaned off the nicotine now. Feel less tense and irritable and not thinking about smoking very much.

The only thing that's getting me now is FOOD! NRT definitely helps to stop you stuffing your face, I just think about eating constantly now.

Still coughing up brown gunk in the morning!
