I'm getting sick of this chesty cough I have, how long does this go on for? I'm on day 12 of non smoking now. I don't have a sore throat any more and at times it does feel like the chest is much improved but then it starts again. Today I have felt like I smoked a load last night - I did not have a cough like this when I smoked!

    Aaaaaarrrghhh! :D

One odd thing I have noticed is that I can leave my hair longer between washes without it getting greasy. That's weird isn't it?

    Hi Sand C
That must be such a pain, but I suppose its a good sign that all the carp on your lungs is freeing itself. I havent coughed at all yet, mind you I have only been quit just over 2 weeks, but I think my lungs must be like a pair of smoked kippers and completely gunged up after smoking for 32 years. It is really good about not having to wash your hair as often tho, and you can still smell the shampoo on your hair at night after you have washed it in the morning , its great isnt it, better than FAG DU PARFUM anyday ha ha
Keep going , youre doing great

I've been stopped for two months and haven't had a cough at all

I was at the cinema last night (saw The Boat That Rocked - excellent!) and either the lady next to me or her mate smoked and all night, everytime one of them moved I got a whiff of stale fags.... not nice _pale_

You're not alone SandC  I thought my cough was getting better a couple of days ago, but it seems to be back with a vengeance and I was coughing loads last night (dry and throaty).

Day 15 for me and, like you, wishing the cough would go. Still have a sore throat, but not as bad as it was.

Amazingly, only got my first proper whiff of second-hand smoke this morning since giving up. I've been trying to "spot the smoker" and haven't seemed to pass any up until now  I didn't feel revolted ... didn't feel anything at all really, certainly not like rushing out to buy a pack, so that's a relief!

As my sense of smell has been shot to pieces for years, I won't get that back and will miss out on all the nice new "fagless odours" but, never mind, I'll take great pleasure in hearing you lot describe them on here and will have to use my imagination icon10.gif

I guess your "failure" makes you human ClipClop  The fact you're back here and determined to give it another go means you really want to quit and therefore you will, even if it take you a little longer. We're all there for you and good luck!

Hello all! I am a newbie to this thread and after a couple of days reading all the posts finally decided to add my own.

I am on day 8 of champix and my stop smoking day is day 11 (Saturday). This is my second attempt on champix having sucessfully stopped for a couple of months last year. I needed to follow the whole 16 week course as I really enjoyed smoking. My nan died just before Christmas and that was catalyst for me starting to smoke again.

    My reason for stopping smoking:

I have a five year old son who one day said to me that I smoked alot and he was worried about me having a heart attack and dying:eek: He has got this off all the tv adverts.

Anyways, I am back on the pills and am determined this time to stop and stay stopped!!!

I also wanted to say that the support shown on this thread is absolutely fantastic and I will definitely be following the helpful tips and advise that has been posted.

Its cold turkey time, I want to stop this time, every other time it has been patches or gum or something else as soon as they finish, im still nicotine dependent and the slightest thing is enough to trigger me again, so this time cold turkey it is...tomorrow is d day. Its rubbish day tomorrow so everything is going in the bin lighters the lot. Lets see how I get on.

Hi ClipClop - Just thought I'd let you know that I've been "lurking" on the forum for a long time and I actually went cold turkey a fortnight ago! I seem to be managing - have the odd pangs but nothing too severe and, when all is said and done, it's got to be worth it in the long run. Main problem seems to be a sore throat so it may be wotth you getting some glycerine/honey/lemon in stock! Hopefully we can all support each other to get through this!

  • Well day one of my stop smoking campaign and I am feeling really positive:T

Going on the 16 hour patch and hoping that this will work for me! Decided to save the money that I would normally spend (about £15 per week) until this time next year and treat myself!

Have tried to stop in the past but with no luck or support!

Hi all, yes Dreamingalound I'm late again !!! :D

Keep on coughing it up whathavewedone, it will stop - when it's all off your lungs, until then it's great that you're getting shot of it. The more exercise you do the more it comes up, especially if it's aerobics or running.

Just goes to show you're one of those whose able to drink without it affecting you SandC, though be careful not to go past the point where you're unable to be in control. Is your cough a 'productive' (coughing up) cough? Also, at the time's it's ok do you not do much exercise then? Exercise often gets things looser down there, hence the cough.

Does the same apply to you as SanC, Mimi re the cough? You may well get your sense of smell back after your sinuses have had chance to get back to normal. Well done on another day gone by!

I'm glad you found out the reason Neenie, though all in all you seem to be in good spirits at knowing you made the great decision to give it all up, well done!

I think smoking in the car affects most of us mazza, it's a bit like needing (or thinking we do) one for phone calls etc, so it's a good one for you to cut out. You're really doing well in the amount smoked, keep keeping it low it'll stand you in good stead.

Good news about your much better night's sleep Chrissy! It makes it far easier to deal with the day ahead. You're probably right about the lack of energy being due to the poor sleep of late. BTW. It still says you don't wish to receive PMs, just something simple I'm sure ...I hope!

Congratulations bugs where smoking's concerned, a month is a great time to get to!!! Don't worry about the muck suddenly starting to be coughed up as I'm sure it would have happened before now. However, if you start running - and there IS any on your lungs - the running will soon get rid of it so don't be surprised if you start coughing up, just be sure to get rid of it - though make sure another runner isn't in front of you!!! :rotfl:We all get angry at not doing it earlier, but at least you didn't go on for another year - or more!

Welcome back ClipClop and of course we'll gladly have you back, it's just so good that you're trying again, well done you!! Don't forget plenty of water, exercise too. All the very best for this time being THE time!!!

Well done on you great achievement of 2 months free from it all Naomi!! :T

Hi and welcome Chris9478 I really do hope you're successful, keep on thinking of your dear lad, he needs you badly! All the best. Welcome to you too devils_vixen, save the money in a jar and watch it grow, it's good incentive, to treat yourself later too! Welcome to you also Buggins and very well done so far!!!

For all 3 of you, it would help us all, - you too - if you put the method used to quit along with the days you've not smoked for on the title bar of your daily (or otherwise) posts, thanks.

Keep it up everyone, so many of you are doing so very, very well and should be so proud of your success to date. Keep strong ...and slow down on the sweeties! NB The Forum is closed from Friday night 10 pm until sometime on Sunday. A major revamp is taking place.

  • Day 17 on champix (I think) - Day 9 not smoking.
I'm no longer on the numbered tablets so I can't keep track of how many days I've been on them anymore!!

Nice to see you came over devils_vixen, :)

I have been on the lower dose champix for 2 days now and I feel soooo much better, I actually feel normal again. I think I might have to have a touch more willpower on these as have been thinking about cigarettes a bit, but still don't want to go there at all.
Only downside is my appetite is back with a vengeance, when I was feeling sick all the time on the blue tablets I thought I might actually lose weight giving up! But the munchies are definately here now, I think I have made up for last week in just the last few days! Good job I don't like sweeties.
I still haven't got a cough or sore throat, in fact I feel quite healthy, I walked up a hill yesterday that would normally leave my chest tight and felt fine.
My DH has his 3 month smober anniversary today, so I am really chuffed for him. :T

Take care everyone, you are all doing great and hello to the new quitters :)
