  • Shimmershelly - sounds like your cessation nurse is a bit special! I can't believe her attitude about you dropping to the lower dose. Like you say, some support! Glad she agreed, and good luck on the lower dose, hopefully it will make all the difference. It's a shame as my nurse is nothing but helpful and supportive. She was a bit apprehensive about me going cold turkey as she was afraid I would relapse but after 8 days of cold turkey I'm still going strong. Only two more sessions left with the nurse too.

I have to admit I've been trying to avoid this thread the last couple of days as it gets me thinking about smoking (I certainly don't want one however it does agitiate me and make me feel like I should be doing something!) but it's great to see everyone on here is doing so well.

Keep up the good work peeps!

Day 15 on Champix - not smoked for 7 days
I probably wouldn't have posted today if i hadn't had such a rotten time with the smoking cessation nurse today. I had to plan when to take my tab today so I knew I would be over the worst of the nausea before I left the house for my appointment. I take the tab then 15 minutes later the nausea hits like a ton of bricks, the only way I can deal with it is to lie down for a while. So, I've gone to see the nurse explained about the nausea and her comment was "well you'll have to come off them then". I asked if I could go back down to the lower dose as I read in the leaflet you could do this. She reluctantly let me have the lower dose. I just thought, some support she was, bet not many people give up on her watch. She isn't the usual nurse that takes the clinic.
But good news my carbon monoxide was down to 2 this week (28 the first time I went while I was still smoking!).

Well done everyone on your achievements and ad1jnl don't worry, just don't give up on giving up!

Obviously this nurse has never smoked  Sorry to hear you didn't get any support and you had a fight on your hands to get the lower dose.

Great news about your carbon monoxide level though .... all the toxins are leaving your body icon7.gif

That's something I am absolutely dreading getting done on Thursday, my carbon monoxide levels. I have tried to keep up my 40 a day for now until this gets checked so i can see the massive drop. Am on day 5 of Champix. will have my levels tested on day 7 and am planning to stop on day 11. Anyone who's used Champix think it's wise to cut down between days 7 and 11 or just stop completely on day 11?

    DAY 15- COLD TURKEY

Hi All, I have had some problems posting today, so hope this comes out okay.
Well, I got through the weekend , I am finding them a lot more difficult than work days as I associate them with relaxing and in the bad old days having lots of fags. My sleeping patterns are haywire at the moment, I am waking up nearly every 2 years which is a right pain in the harris I can tell you. I have tried all sorts of remedies so far but nothing has worked yet, so I just have to bite the bullet and hope eventually it will sort itself out. I suppose it is to be expected after 32 years of addiction. Anyway sorry I dont mean to moan. as generally I feel pretty good.
Keep strong everyone, WE CAN DO IT
    Chris xxx

I have been quit for 2 Weeks, 1 Day, 8 hours, 52 minutes and 33 seconds (15 days). I have saved £88.55 by not smoking 384 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Day and 8 hours of my life. My Quit Date: 16/03/2009 07:45

I couldn't help but cut down as I approached day 7 on champix, I didn't feel like smoking very much and when I had one it didn't do much. A pack of 20 lasted me 3 days instead of the usual 1. I gave up completely on day 8 but by then I was ready to stop.
Chris you are doing great on cold turkey, my DH gave up on the 2nd Jan like that and had sleep problems to start with, he is well and truly back to normal now (snore!!).
ScRiMpNsAvE you have come off champix haven't you? I don't think I'm ready for cold turkey yet, I like the fact that smoking doesn't interest me at the moment because of the tablets. I'm hoping to complete the course on the lower dose tabs, I don't trust my willpower lol! Keep up the good work :)

Luckily the nurse I saw today isn't the one who normally does the clinic, I think she just wanted me out as soon as possible and wasn't interested in any side effects I was having.
Well I can't stand by the side
And watch this life pass me by

    Just want to be...Happy

OH bumped into my dad in doctor's surgery last night and he bloody told him that I have stopped smoking. Now I may be nearly 50 but I can't let my Dad down so if he thinks I have stopped then I have to stop.

Dad stopped 21 years ago (he is now 83) and, like my OH, seemed to find it easy, though I must say I don't ever remember him smoking really, apart from occasional cigar.

Seriously why do men seem to find it easier than women?

my dad also gave jup smoking

He pulled me out of the bath when I was a baby and as he was drying me my hair still stank of smoke. He gave up straight away, he didnt want to bring up a baby reeking of smoke. That was that.

i also dont want to let me dad down. He lost his mother, my beloved nanna to smoking illnesses she smoked from 13 till the day she died. It devastated my dad , shes been gone 10 years, hes still not right. I cant bear my dad to know ive given up smoking yet, as If I ever started again he would be so let down. I told my mum, shes really pleased but Ive bedgged her not to mention it to dad yet just in case.

Although he always used to know i was smoking when on the phone, and have a go at me for it everytime- he'll probably know when I next ring him :rotfl:
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

You should be free from the nicotine by tomorrow whathavewedone, hopefully then it'll all start to look so much better for you. What a blessing to hear about your sleep being so much better, though the dreams do go on for a little while, all part of the head I suppose.

You both sound so positive lynzpower, a right giggly pair too! You're both using great attitudes to quit once and for all, keep it up. What a bonus with the Pru too, it's good to hear of firms helping folk to achieve what they want and if cash incentives/rewards help - then so be it!!! So, another Dad's girl who wants to make her Dad so proud, go of it Lynz, you know you can!

Brilliant news kindofagilr!!! That really was wonderful to read, stick to it and look forward to all the benefits as they are many! Cross stitch will be so good to take your mind off of it all, try to get your OH to have a go at something like it, or gardening maybe?!

I'm with you SandC, I've no idea how people can only smoke occasionally or just have the odd one here and there, I can't understand how they don't get addicted as it just doesn't make sense! A bit like so called 'recreational drugs' perhaps?!

Yes, Neenie, it'll pass soon enough, and you are still on the inhalator aren't you? Not to sure how you have such cravings if you are, or are you cutting down on the cartridges perhaps? Keep looking at your jar of money saved and dream about what you're going to spend it on next. Good news about the skin, wonders of water again!

You're doing so very well Dreamingalound, and the news to your family and their reactions have obviously done wonders for you! I too always feel so sorry for people who still smoke, especially when it's youngsters coming straight out from school with fags lit up!!! They have SO much information on all the woes of it all, yet still I guess they think they'll quit before they become addicted!!! Oh dear! If only we could get a few into a room with all of us eh!!! So, by now you'll have reached that wonderful fortnight free, superb! Keep going and strong. BTW, you could have something with this remark <<<"well I think this is because Women have a longer concentration spam...">>> Too much thinking time maybe!

You did make me giggle at your OH telling you Dad ameliarate!! Well there you go, no option now - do it for your Dad too! He'll be so proud of his dear lass! I honestly think men seem to find it easier than women because they're able to focus more on outside things/topics whereas in general a lot of us are at home with kiddies and so forth. That's my take on it, but what do others think??

Oh dear Jon. It seems as though drink to your mind is so associated with cigs and one links the other. If you go to the pub again, why not stick to non alcoholic drinks for now until you have better control over yourself. You may also be affected by the alcohol in the 'few drinks' and that blurs your thinking and makes you either forget or lose your self-discipline! Never mind, you had the courage to tell us and I'm proud of you not having had any more. Take hold of being cigs-free and stay indoors in future!!!

Congratulations on a fortnight free from the bloomin things Mimi You've done so very, very well, I hope you're so proud of yourself, you deserve to be! Time will make the after tea etc ones, though help yourself a bit more with having an apple at those times. Remember the apples and water will get you just right for that holiday! I hope you look forward to it and thoroughly enjoy yourselves.

I think the Nurse is thinking of you and what it might be doing to you Shelley. I know you so desperately want to quit but you also want to stay healthy! Be happy with the lower dose, you have strength on your side I'm sure! Well done with a great carbon monoxide reading, what a drop from 28!!!

You taking th Mickey out us girls fermi?!

SAS, if you find it hard to come on the thread and talk about 'you know what' then please don't. I completely understand as I couldn't even say the word 'cig', so do whatever's best for you.

Don't be fearful of your CM reading mazza, look forward to both the before and after, you'll be thrilled then! I can't help with your question I'm afraid, but no doubt Naomi will be able to as she used champix to quit.

That's not moaning Chrissy, just saying how you feel - and why not. I take it you relax with a nice bath/shower? Try drinking chocolate too, and a little light reading/music perhaps? Not being rude but do you get plenty of exercise each day? Congratulations on 15 days freed from that filthy habit, oh it does make us feel so very good. All the best with your sleep problems Chris.

Well, everyone, as Chrissy rightly says you CAN all do it, so keep strong, positive and focus on all the beauty of spring and how you'll all be totally freed from the weed for the next one!!!

  • ScRiMpNsAvE you have come off champix haven't you?

Yes I have - against the advice of the nurse, but I really did feel ready. It was after day 18 of taking Champix and I made sure I had some left over and have kept them with me at all times. I really would suggest you stay on it for as long as possible - you'll know when its time to come off them, and stick to the whole course if it makes your journey easier!

I wouldn't dread it Mazza - I did too, especially when other people had already given up before me and were getting 0-3, I was devastated when I saw that reading and the thing started bleeping away flashing red! However you certainly lose the shame feeling when you do give up, and the bigger the drop the more positive you feel about the whole thing!

If your experience turns out to be anything like mine you won't need to actively cut down as you really won't want to smoke much, especially when you start on the stronger blue tablets. I think you should just keep in mind that you're quitting, and it being a positive thing. Question every cig you're about to have, asking yourself do you need it, and if you decide you do whether you're actually enjoying it.

If you get to day 8 or 9 and you find you're still smoking as much then I'd consider making sure you cut down.

I was panicking around day 5 that it wasn't going to work, but I actually decided to give up on day 9 - a day earlier than planned!

  • Morning everyone

Good to hear everyone doing so well and feeling so positive

Still sleeping better despite the mad dreams and waking up feeling a bit more refreshed.

Unbelieveably I'm still waking up with a frog in my throat and when I eventually manage to cough I'm STILL getting up dark brown gunk. Pretty disgusting.

I must have detoxed my body of most of the chemicals in fags by now but probably still withdrawing from nicotine having last worn a 10mg patch on Saturday. Hopefully that won't last too long now.

    Morning all.

Had loads of wine last night. Silly idea on a work night.

Absolutely did not crave a ciggie though. This is hugely good. :D

I think an ex colleague tried that champix, it made her sick. But then any excuse with her to have time off work. She had to come off it but I think she just wanted an easy way to stop smoking with no effort required.
