Just popped by to say HI!:j Ive not been able to get online for about a week..................... its been hell!!!

Just to update, im now on day 20, yes 20! who'd of thought it !? :T

Feeling really positive about my quit, had a new leaf appointment yesterday, i've come off the patches, stopped using them about 5 days ago, but im still using the inhalator. The advisor has just told me to keep a check on how many capsules im using each day, yesterday i used 3. I'd forgot to use my patch for 2 days and i didnt really notice so i just carried on not using it, i will keep you posted on my capsule consumption!!

Having a new and exciting hobby really has helped, the alloment is certainly keeping me busy!! unfortunatly, i've overdone it and done me back in!! hence me being up at this silly o' clock hour, i cant sleep  i was in pain so decided to get up and have some pain killers and coffee!
Im going to wait and see if the pain killer kick in and then try again for some rest, i can hear OH stirring upstairs, he's getting up for work, bet he wonders what im upto lol, im normally a sound sleeper.
    Better make him a coffee........

Have a great day all, and weekend incase i dont manage to get online later.

Ask yourselves do non smokers who have never smoked have restless, bored or empty feelings? Of course they do - but it's nothing to do with those feelings being relieved by a cigarette.

Cigarettes don't relieve those feelings, remember that.

There is nothing missing, those fags were a hindrance, not a help. To anything.

    :D
What do you do to alleviate these feelings? Its these that always have me reaching for the fags, I've just given up, but I know that the first time today I feel bored or need a break I am going to be dying :o for a fag.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

    Hi Lotus Eater,

I don't really have those feelings anymore but when I had them, I found a quick walk helped, even if I was in the office I'd go for a wander and say hi to someone from a different department. 10 mins later I'd be back at my desk and the emtpy feeling had passed. At home I didn "something" like wash-up, load the washing machine, any little job I could find or even just go and brush my teeth. It all helps and the empty feeling doesn't last forever, you'll soon not have them.

  • Hi

Another stressful day yesterday. Took my little one back into hospital as he couldn't keep anything down and seemed to not be responding to much. Thankfully he is back home again now and seems a lot brighter.

I finish my patches this week and will be going cold turkey as of next week. Am fed up with the patches they are starting to make my back itch.

Totally agree that the way to deal with empty feelings is to keep busy. Go for a walk, make a coffee and chat to someone in the office, if you're at home, clear out a cupboard, do the ironing, spring clean the house etc.

I do nothing at all, the feeling goes really really quickly. However, I have been to an Allen Carr clinic and I think this is why these sorts of areas are easier for me than someone using willpower or replacement stuff or whatever.

I can't really explain it but pangs are very, very fleeting, as is the empty feeling. You just have to ride it through.

Alternatively, remembering from when I stopped years ago for a couple of years it's a case of keep busy and every time that might have been a danger time get up and do something.
  • Day 11 on champix tablets, day 3 of not smoking.
I spoke too soon yesterday about the nausea being better. It came back with a vengeance, I ended up going to bed at 7.30pm with a bowl by the side of the bed because everytime I moved I felt like I would be sick. I have just taken today's first tab and feel the same today. I am going to persevere though, I am sure they will come a point when my body will get used to the tablets and the benefits so outweigh the side effects.
Still no physical cravings for cigarettes though which is great, the actual giving up part seems quite easy.
Mazza111, I see the smoking cessation nurse once a week and she prints the prescription for champix and then gets it signed by a doctor for me while I wait, hopefully it will be the same for you once you are on the course.
Well I can't stand by the side
And watch this life pass me by

    Just want to be...Happy

    Day 7 Allen Carr

It is Chris. I'm happy to report that I'm not finding this a negative experience and most importantly that I'm not missing out.

Another good thing is that my alcohol intake has considerably reduced. It's not that I have avoided it from a temptation point of view (with Allen Carr you try to forget ever having triggers - it's your mind playing tricks on you) but I genuinely haven't wanted that midweek wine and think maybe it was the accompanying ciggies that was the draw and not the wine itself.

Heyho, anyhow, I shall be having a bottle of wine tonight and enjoying it thoroughly (I even took the advice of the clinic last week only 1 hour after last cigarette ever of not changing my routine so drank wine then as well and managed it fine).
  • :T Hi all, day 10 :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j

Happy friday! I've realised that by stopping smoking i can save £1500 a year, if my OH stops thats £3000! as we are getting married next mach i'm going to suggest we use this money towards a honeymoon as a motivational tool to stopping for good!

Last night i went out with my work for beers, standing outside as it was a ncie day with a beer but no smokes was hard! However as none of my collegues smoke it was easier than if i had been standing with smokers.

Sue - you always post really early in the morning! do you live abroad or just awake at those hours all the time? Your advice is great

SandC - i'm glad we are on the same method, its great to be on here with someone who is thinking like me! i didn't go to his clinic, i just watched his dvd. I've said to myself that if this doesn't work then iwill go and visit his clinic!

Chrissy61-cold turkey is great, shows you are strong! keep it up!

naomim- great tip about walking around to other departments or going for walks! if you go for a walk though don't take any money with you! :)

Lotus-eater-good luck with your quest, there are plenty of people on this board who have quit, if they can do it, then so can we!!! they don't have anything we don't.

mazaa-good luck, we look forward to you becomming smoke free with us"!

I think you need to do these asap! don't avoid it. i.e. go for beers with the boys straight away! get it over an done with rather than avoiding it.
