Thank You for the tip about soft drinks The Rugby coach - I'm going to browse the soft drink aisle later and stock up. I might even get some hot chocolate, I've not had that for years!

Graemcarter, I think I like the idea of full fat coke, I'll happily chug wine all night not thinking a jot about the calories, so I think I can afford a full fat coke treat!!

maman, I know what you mean about cheap quaffing wine! I am/was the same!! or I'd buy one good bottle and one crappy one and then by the time I'd drunk the first I didn't care what the other tasted like! :o

Lots of folks seem to be tucking lots of AF days under their belts, well done! :T :T

Well my first AF day for ages yesterday, I slept really badly and my heart was pounding, and I was too hot! I think my OH must've noticed and got up early with my DD and didn't wake me - he brought me a cup of tea up at about 10:30am and woke me and I burst into tears! :o I felt awful for sleeping in, but oh said he was happy to let me catch up on some sleep. (shh but I feel like i don't deserve the kindness, I haven't told him I've given up drinking - I think he knows though, somehow). I phoned the Docs today to make an appointment for my DD to have her jabs and I so wanted to say, 'oh and can I make an appointment for me too' - but didn't :o I'm sorta realy nervous about going.

anyhow, I'm so glad I've found this thread, as I don't realy know who else I could talk to!!
  • Hi I would like to join the challenge.

I have been drinking every night for a number of years now, and really want to STOP. I seem to be drinking more and more these days, spirits and wine and I can relate to a lot things others have mentioned here, red eyes, feeling down, depressed, etc.

I gave up smoking 2 months ago and think that this may have led to me drinking even more than I was before. I also hide the amount I drink from my OH.

I am worried that I won't be able to sleep tonight, so can anyone give me some tips on this.

I will try and keep myself busy by doing lots of spring cleaning.

    Thanks everyone.
  • Hiya Carrie M and welcome.......
sounds cliched but i went to bed early - think the first night it was something sad like 8pm - even I (although it has been known) won't drink in bed. Can only suggest have bath/shower early - don't do what you normally do (ie for me its sit down and put a movie on with a bottle wine) and take yourself a pile of mags, books or switch on the telly and watch/read relax in bed.

I had to change my normal routine for a wee while so I wasn't stressing more cos of not having the wine in my hand during a movie. I didnt drink coffee after 6pm cos it keeps me awake.

No idea otherwise, just my nonsense really - lots of folk here helped by telling me to break my normal habits - my old routine was tea, kids sorted, open wine, movie or phone for a couple hours. Now its tea, kids and I do a bit more, bath, early bed or read for a bit.

Hi everyone, wow I've done 12/12 now thats nearly 2 weeks!! I feel really good, and this last week has flown by. I have never had a panic attack, it sounds awful, I'ts scary to think what could of been round the corner if I hadn't done something.
Not drinking now feels "normal" my DD asked me in the supermarket yesterday if I was getting a bottle of wine, I said no its £4, its a waste of money. Before I would of bought the wine first, and then got the shopping with what money was left. Anyone who is lurking and thinking I want to do something about my drinking but I can't, If I can anyone can! And if you do something now, you might catch it before it gets to serious.
I completely agree about the wine, I only like a nice glass, and am not giving up completely, I just want to have most of the week AF and enjoy a drink at the weekend:D

Hi Carrie, welcome to the thread.

Exercise does it for me. Since I started going to the gym regularly I have no real problems sleeping. Generally go about 5pm, spend an hour or so in there, get home, hot shower / bath, bit of food and by bedtime I'm really sleepy.

I think doing it too late would leave me full of adrenaline though. So get the timing right!

    :hello: Hi Carrie.

Lurkio I am not drinking today so it will be 9/13 for me after today!:j

I had a cheerful thought last night that I only have one more day after today to reach my 10/31 target. That means I could get absolutely plastered the rest of the month and still feel virtuous. :naughty: I won't be doing that though honest.;)

I agree with the people that said about changing your own routine, I think that is a good idea. I think it seems like a lot of people just drink more than they would like because you don't notice how much you are putting away in a big group or when watching a movie at home or trying to keep up with rounds in a pub because there are always going to be people that can drink a lot and not have many negative side effects.
(Just to be clear these are general comments, I'm not talking about people on this thread, I don't want people to think I'm talking about them!)

I hope everyone is okay today.:A
