In answer to the question re money,I think I was probably spending about £ 30 per week too.I havn't actually saved anything but it has helped with my huge debts in that I don't struggle as much to pay my bills (Until last week when my hours have now been cut and I will lose about £70pw.)

Was giving up hard?Yes and no.
At the start of the first thread last year I stopped drinking for a couple of weeks and then got complacent.I thought I was in control and could just have a couple and be ok.But I couldnt.I very nearly ruined a whole holiday and 25th wedding anniversary due to horrendous hangovers.
When I came back I knew if I wanted my life, my family and my sanity back I could NEVER drink again. That was a very scary thought but once I had taken that on board and got used to the idea it wasn't too bad.
And to be honest. Now, I am too frightened to HAVE a drink.:T
Good luck in cutting down/giving up....whichever you decide is best for you.

thankyou so much fo being so honest about it, i feel the same, that i will have to give up compleatly, because on the odd occasion i have given up and thought i would just have a glass and leave the rest in the fridge, it never happened, the bottle was always empty next day, i even tried buying loads of the small bottle's of wine those 4 for £5.00, thinking i will just have one per night, then ending up drinking all 10 in one mad day! i have been married for 27 years and feel like it is about time, that I HAD SOME TIME FOR ME!! FOR A CHANGE.
    thank you, jo-jo

Hi Jo-Jo and welcome - stick around here and you'll get lots of good advice and insight but maybe most importantly open and uncritical ears. It's really hard when we don't have anyone to talk about our alcohol fears with.

if you need some me time how about deciding that instead of opening a bottle to relax and look forward to after work, take a bath and pamper yourself, or go out alone to the movies (I love doing this), or take a walk in the sunshine or whatever - just a simple pleasure that gives you a bit of space and time.
Maybe Nirelandguy you need to find a 'treat' to replace alcohol to look forward to at the weekend? Something that takes your fancy and would be a good reward for all your hard work. I know how you mean about life not seeming fun with no drink - I think it takes time to get used to the rythm of a teetotal life.

Myabe Bismark, Eselt or GC has some insight here?

Hi jo-jo and welcome :D I only joined in the challenge last month for the first time. When I tried to cut down before I failed miserably, but putting it down here really does help you make and stick to a target :D

I am like you - every day I would say I am not drinking today, but by 6pm that had gone out the window. Also, my over drinking [and over eating] all started during a very stressful time and I am getting both under control again now but know if I have stress in my life I will reach for comfort food/drink again.

You need to decide if you want to stop altogether or just cut down. I am a cutter downer and was drinking every single night. I am now into my second month of drinking at weekends only and having 4 consecutive AF days in the week.

I am sure you will find this thread and everyone here as helpful as I have done - before posting here I never thought I was going to manage even 1 AF night  but on my first month last month I managed 17 :j

Lots of luck to you :D

Is it just me, but I find giving something up, in this case alcohol gives me a real buzz.

:rotfl::rotfl:oh dear, welcome to my world...at least they were small bottles.

    Hi jo-jo (3 jo's now?)
Jo - how's you tonight now?

I really think this might be the worst hangover I've ever had.

I don't know what to make of OH....took him round a couple of little pressies to "try & redeem myself for poxy behaviour last night" & for starters he insisted I needed a glass of wine to feel better , then he asked what I was so upset about last night.....I cast around for a few seconds trying to invent something then had to 'fess up, "can't remember"...& he doesn't believe me! Poor chap now thinks he's said / done something to really hurt me that I won't discuss. He asked again & I had to say, I honestly don't remember, that's how very drunk I was. Wot a mess. very shameful.
Watching eastenders now to cheer myself up;)
