I'm off alcohol 14 days now, have to say I feel rather down. Yes I am off alcohol but it was my only pleasure in life. I looked forward to my little tipple on a Sat night after a crappy week at workThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Nirelandguy, sorry to hear you are still feeling down. Did you used to overdo it on a saturday or was it moderate drinking, cos if that's the case then there's no problem with the little tipple?
MP, I've told practically everyone I know about the Toby deal, probably be all of my family and friends in there at one go!! I'm going to take my mum with us on Sat week and given DD1 a voucher so she can go with her BF during the week, bargain!!DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
I have been reading these threads for ages and ages and kept thinking that i need to give up alc for good, but i cannot seem to do it on my own, i don't really have any closed friends that i could confide in, my husband knows that i drink, on the odd occasion that we go out together and knows i tend to have a bottle of wine at weekends, but my downfall mostly is cider, the strong white stuff.
i drink that most days, and my husband never seems to notice, unless i really have had too much, he never really drinks alc at all, a pint of shandy is his limit.
everynight i go to bed, with the resolve of ' thats it, i will not dink tomorrow' but then i get up in the morning and something seems to click inside me and i am reaching out for the bottle again, or planning when i can go to a shop to buy some more!
i have given up on a few occasions before, but only lasted a few weeks, then something goes wrong in family life, and i start again, just one drink, then a bottle and then it seems to carry on again, drinking everyday.
i am fed up with feeling like carp every day and never getting anything done, outside the house,i keep saying to myself, if i didn't drink then i can go to the supermarket tonight and get all the bargains, to save money, but i always end up having a drink, so i won't go as i will not drink and drive.
but i know i could give up alc all together, if i had some-one to talk to, my son is coming home tonight for a few days, and i am picking him up from the station, so i know today, i cannot have a drink and won't, and i will be very good over the weekend while he is here, but when he goes back on monday, i am frightened that i will be going shopping for alc again.
any friends or advice out there! sorry for the long post - jo-jo0 -
I was thinking about what Budgie said to fedupski about changing her name as the negativity might be a self-fulfilling prophecy, & wondered if I should do the same! If winebox disappears & "slim&sober" starts posting you'll know it's me
I thought long and hard about this and thought of a few happier names but I decided against it as I didn't want to lose the number of posts I had and medals! Sad I know!
I decided to put where I am as in "happy land northern england" as that is how and where I am!:j
My name reminds me of how I felt when I joined and now I don't feel as bad as I did then thanks to this site helping me change my ways and thinking. Still a long way to go like, but nice to see I 'm not on my own anymore :A
I couldn't do it without all of you lot out there! I enjoy reading all the posts no matter how serious or lighthearted that make me smile or thoughtful :A
As Jo said I would be tempted to put Zoe'91-4 when I was happiest in my younger days before my rubbish money head kicked in! Hey ho live and learn hopefully:rolleyes::D

Welcome to the thread jo-jo, you've made the first step by posting on here and so hopefully now you will read back through some of the posts and pick up some advice and tips. Main thing you need to know is that you are not on your own and most of us on here go through the same thoughts and processes as you, you are normal! Good luck for the weekend, enjoy spending time with your son. Keep posting and keep us updated

Sleepyjo - hello and don't worry about long posts - it wasn't that long by some of my own - hugs to you my dear.
Glad son is coming home - jump on board here for comedy, someone to blether too and honest support.
Maybe tonight you should grab yourself some of those bargains from the supermarket before or after you pick up your son - to spur you on a bit.
You can even sign up for a few AFD's this month (if you feel brave! x) as you will be not drinking over next few days and that might improve your confidence? x
