The giving up/cutting down alcohol support thread! Part 2

Well, I've been at MR FUAS house this weekend and had 4 glasses of red on Fri night and 3 glasses of white on sat and then a Baileys coffee last night.
Drank all 3 evenings of the weekend meaning I will have to have an AF weekend to meet my target. Just used the Drinkaware calculator and had 16.25 units this weekend (:o whoops:o ) still less than it would have been before but comes in at a massive 1040 calories
  That's where the belly's coming from!
Felt fed up with all the pain from the 2nd car accident at tea time and thought about having a drink to cheer me up in one thought, then the next thought was it won't make me feel better if I have a drink and I went and bought myself a chip butty and curry sauce instead.
So from Wed onwards when I start my next 100 days challenge I am cutting the rubbish out of my diet and now I know how many calories are in the drinks I drink I will have to be more careful then to get rid of some of this belly wobble I seem to have acculmulated :rotfl:
Forgot to mention as there is no chance of me drinking tonight I am on AFD 6
Hope everyone else is ok, you all seem to be from the posts I've been reading.

FUAS, I also drank 3 nights over the weekend but if I cut out drinking in the week I will be happy with that

Wasn't sure I was going to manage today  but I have - dinner is done and dusted so my danger period is well and truly over :j
That makes AF days - 4 for me :j :j :T Half way to my target :j I know 8 days is a low target but it is my first month at this and I would rather exceed my target [maybe!] than fall short, becuse if I fell short it would make me have a drink because I would be cross with myself :rotfl: :rotfl:
:rotfl:
Also, I am still on a diet and am trying really hard to lose weight this month as we are going away for a week at the beginning of April so can't even console myself with chocolate :rotfl:
Hope everyone is doing ok

Hi all

Ophelia, don't worry about it, you don't really know what you want to achieve yet in the grand scheme of things, if you can do social drinking then there is nothing wrong with that. It's up to you to decide whether or not that that is all you want? Use this as a learning curve to decide where you want to be
xx
Hi Jo
Thanks for your encouraging words. I think I just don't want to feel that I've completely failed and I think I set my target a bit too high - typical of me ! I think your doing great btw and will always be encouraging you to reach you target - well done so far :T0 -
Needstochange wrote: »Hi Ophelia and well done on keeping within your limits:T I know for quite a few of us on here, drinking in moderation is the goal and to be able to enjoy social settings with or without. Heres my take on AFM, your target is exactly that your target, nobody will judge you (unless its lurkio of course then we will :rotfl: ) if you want to rethink I am sure so just let me know what target you want to set and I will make the change;)

Hi NTC
Thank you for your support with this. I would like to change my target to 24/31 if I may pleasy. I think my target was set too high in my eagerness to join the challenge. I think my new target will allow me to guage my progress in a more achieveable way. Thank you for letting me have this rethink. So far I have managed 7 AF days (including tonight)

Hi Ophelia. I agree you need to learn what sort of target suits you. In January I went for the maximum number of days possible that allowed me to drink just at weekends and then did a lot of stressing when a friend suggested a weekday lunch. Feb and March I've consulted my 'social diary' and built in some other days for unplanned occasions before setting my target. This is what works for me. I'm doing what I wanted 'cutting down' not beating myself up. I want the target because it helps me to be accountable to my virtual friends.
Others are far more determined to give up completely or cut down harder than me. This thread is all about finding out what you want for you and loads of support to achieve it.
Back on the wagon tomorrow, best wishes to all.
Hi maman. I think we have identical targets and I have used your strategy to work out my AF for the rest of the month.
I think the idea of building in some spare days for unplanned occasions is a great idea. :T I would be like you and stress and beat myself up if a social thing came up in the week and then I would feel like I failed and say "sod it, I've blown it now so might as well finish the bottle" etc etc. I also very much wanted a target to help me be accountable too. My overall aim is to firstly be aware of how many units I'm consuming and secondly reduce those units to a level that is within the guidelines. 0 -

Back on the wagon after the weekend so 4AF for me please ntc.
Ophelia, you're right we are after the same targets. However, you are much more sensible than me. I'm motivated by calories and cash when I really should be thinking units like you. But we'll get there with all our friends for support.
Fluffy, it's good to have someone else on a low target. I do so admire the resolve and will power of those who are giving up but that's not where I need to be. I'm delighted to have cut down and be into the 3rd month without giving in/up!

Had to join this thread as a big part of my debt is due to alcohol problems that I have had. Basically when I pick it up I can't put it down and can go on long benders. This hasn't helped with the depression (also contributed to the debt) So I've decided my best bet is to go teetoal. I had my last drink on the 2nd March - feeling better already but when I get stressed about the debt it is so tempting to have a few cans (I'm just about to go on a DMP)

I know what you mean! Dealing with the aftermath in the cold light of morning takes a lot of guts and yet once you've started, it's not so bad. Having a few cans is no good cos it really just makes it all a bit worse. If it were just a few cans on one day that's not such a problem really, it's the fact that you'd be more likely to have a few more tomorrow...and that's when it all really starts adding up....
take care everyoneFor what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -
Hi Everyone
I managed to get back to it last night making that 3AFD's for me NTC. Although I did have a drink at the weekend it was a lot less than I normally would have.
The drinkaware calculator is too scary:eek: but with a bottle of gin on its way with the in laws next weekend I am determined to go careful
