Hello everyone.....
I have been trying to read this whole thread from the beginning for a few days and got to page 86 and today it hit me I just had to post now else I probably never would.
Now I dont really know where to start or what to say only that I want to change but dont really know how,I guess im going to start pretty much from the beginning and give you all a bit of background first.
I started drinking when I was about 13 the same as most teenagers, but for me it progressed from an odd night here and there to every night 3 or 4 cans of tennents super or cherry B,yuk anybody remember that!Anyway it gave me confidence and helped me sleep....I would often roll up to school with the worst hangovers! At 18 I got a job....in a pub!I carried on drinking whilst working and moved in with my first boyfriend, every night we would drink, at 21 I fell pregnant, stopped drinking completely it never bothered me at all,for a couple of years I was happy and drink free!We then split up and I met my husband....he owned a pub....he has never been a big drinker and can take it or leave it.we had two children together and my drinking stopped each time i was pregnant and just didnt seem a problem to me any more. Then about 3 years ago i discovered the joy of red wine,a glass of wine each night was my treat once all the kids were in bed.Again I never saw it as a problem,it went up to 2 glasses a night which is what i still drink,7.30 every night the bottle gets opened......fridays are my treat nights a full bottle followed by a couple of whiskys, saturdays the same,i rarely get hangovers and never get really drunk, sundays are my day off and very rarely have a drink...maybe due to the guilt of over indulging all weekend.
I think the reason I am posting now is i have started to lately think I need a lifestyle change,I had chest pains a few weeks ago and palpitations....I thought there was something really wrong with my heart so went to doctors who simply said do you drink?I told him the odd glass of wine here or there,he told me to stop and i was mortified!Went straight home and had a glass of wine and about 10 cigarettes(another of my little vices...the two have always gone hand in hand since i was 13)Yesterday I had a lightbulb moment and decided one at a time and went out bought the Allen Carr how to quit smoking...I couldnt wait to finish it and stop smoking,at one o clock today i finished it and gave up smoking for good,at five o clock today i had a cigarette! At 7.30 today i opened the wine....and smoked about 10 more. Now I am very cross at myself and feel a complete and utter failure!
anyway what I am thinking is I would love to join your group and have afd a lot more than I do at moment...not sure how many a month yet but I need to make a start and seeing how well some of you have been doing is an inspiration to me.
Stroppy xx
Giving up booze and ciggies at the same time is a huge ask.
I would try knocking booze on the head first, as you probably always smoke when drinking, but not the other way around
Drink causes arguments, drunk driving, family break ups, etc
Ciggies only affect one person (apart from passive smoking)
Habit and addiction are very closely linked. No-one would smoke if they were not addicted0 -
Hiya Eselt, missed your post, hope you good hun? Have a coffee instead of the baileys and a piece of chocolate
Just realised...MP...where are you??
Eselt is not going to drink.
She is a non-drinker remember!!
Well done Jo - 5 days is a long time, seeing as normally it would be less than 24 hrs!!0 -

Morning all,
Payday - thank the lord!!
Still on 14 days so need to be AF tonight and tomorrow to hit target. Tonight should be fine, tomorrow might be tricky - will need to visualise how good it would feel to earn one of these wee jumpy things next to my name!

Morning all,
Remember I said yesterday I felt like I'd been hit by a bus when I woke up? Well this morning I got run over by the entire fleet, my god I am knackered! Wouldn't mind I went to bed at 11pm and fell asleep almost immediately and alarm didn't go off till 6.45amHad a weird dream about trying to get on trains with loads of luggage, then going to somewhere near the coast, might have been Southend, and for those that have been there knows there's a very very steep hill as you get near the beach (which thankfully they've recently installed outside lifts to get down to!!) and there was me with a buggy or something, don't know if there was a child in it and luggage sliding down the hill right to the bottom
Anyway, must get ready for work, just wanted to say....
WB, please put me down for 12/28 thanks very much
Speak to you all a bit later xxDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -

Good morning all
Fay and Jo - well done on resisting the wine bells
Stroppy - welcome! We're a nice lot really!
Hope everyone is ok today. My ears are totally blocked so pretty deaf. Going to steam head later and hope it helps. Cold seems to be coming back out on me too...this just isn't funny!
Well, had a meal out with friends from work last night. Normally we'd do this complicated thing of dropping cars off then having taxis get us all. But last night I drove. And it's liberating!! was home at a decent hour, without a headache and without having dropped mexican rice all down my cleavage like I normally do!!
WB 24 for me please!!!
Have good fridays everone!!

Have good weekends everybody, see you all next week!

One more for me, WB. That makes 13 and I shall declare on that.....
Going to try harder next month
And for another seventies TV reference....... Who is 'Anthea' for March? NTC, I believe..... could you put the lovely Esther and myself down for 18
Welcome stroppy  - you'll find the people here lovely. mad as a box of fish, but lovely. I'm the only sane one round here......
jo - my sleeping patterns went a bit bandy in January when I was AF. Think that's pretty normal. Accept it and know that its only temporary.
Happy Friday, everyone!!Neigh, neigh, and thrice neigh
