I'm quite an avid OS/MSE cook so often spent far more on booze at the supermarket than food. At our worst that was about 15 bottles at a minimum of £50 so that's about £2 500 a year for two of us! Horrific really.

It was easy to work out the ciggie spending. Pretty much 20 ciggs a day, about a fiver a pack...£1,700 - £2,000 a year (because some days I might slip into 30 a day...)

Staggering to consider we scrimp and save on loads of stuff, then fritter a massive chunk away on carp, innit..,

    Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! It's perishing outside.
We've had it easy here really...(N Wilts) - no snow at all yest or overnight, started at 7.30 this morning & although it's gone on all day it never seems to get more than an inch deep!

Having a fire crisis - I've always used wine corks as firelighters & I've run out!! :rotfl: And my coal-bin has leaked so it's all been sat in water, & I'm nearly out of wood. Methinks there's been a lack of household management chez moi lately.
NTC - brilliant to not have any port esp with friends. What will power :T

Fedupski so sorry to see your post hope you're getting over it a bit now.

Hope you're all keeping warm enough x

    Good evening,

I know how you feel winebox - it's horrible here - cold and icy with snow left on the ground. Brrrrr.

Have had an AFD yesterday and will be tonight so a good start this month.

I'm getting into the habit of watching a video most nights with a nice cup of tea. At the moment we're working through the second series of Life on Mars (we couldn't watch it when it first came out) and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

    Keep warm and safe everyone,

Hi all- hope you are feeling OK fedup and the shocks wearing off now (hugs).

Great to hear the resistance movement is alive and well- willpowers a wonderful thing, so proud of you all.

In terms of money spent a year on alcohol I'm ashamed to admit that I spent every penny I had on the stuff- on good weeks I'd drink vodka and wine, on bad weeks horrible white cider at about £1.30 a bottle- I gag when I smell that stuff now, I spilt some once on the carpet and as it dried out it smelt disgusting- I remember thinking do I smell like that? Yuk!

Anyway, drove back from Truro tonight which is miles away from my home in Fowey and the snow was pelting down- one thing that did occur to me though was that a couple of years ago I would have been a nervous wreck in these conditions, having panic attacks and getting into a state, I would probably have called my other half to pick me up...but today I just thought 'its just snow, and people are driving in it safely so why shouldn't I be able to get home OK' and I did, felt very calm and confident.....when I was drinking I would have been a jibbering wreck but now my anxiety levels are virtually non-existant, and surprise, surprise I've not had one panic attack since I quit......don't think its a coincidence somehow?

Best of luck tonight everyone, stay warm, stay safe if you're driving and get the hot chocolate out if you need a treat...remember alcohol thins your blood so you'll feel colder if you drink a load tonight!
  • Coffee in hand - i will continue the night - will be with you jo til the shop shuts. No snow here though!

    take care guys

E - well done on the drive - xx
Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
    minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:
    :money:Sleeves up folks.:money:
  • Fedup - glad you're ok, must have been a shock.

Molly - interesting points you raised about feeling the need to lighten up and let go sometimes. Went to see Rachel Getting Married at the w/end which deals with addiction.

There's a scene at a meeting where one of the characters who's been clean for a long time admits that just occassionally things can get a little boring. I feel I can empathise with that too. Would be interesing to hear how other people deal with that? I find it's sometimes hard to remember just how bad the drinking days were (despite waking up in hospital, terrible issues at work etc - how quick the memory forgets!). Trying to do moderation, but it's tiring having to be so vigilant all the time. Thinking it might be a relief to be AF altogether.

WB - AF today, so that's 1 day logged against target - yay!
