    Post by Spring Watch Girl:

"Well, week 5 of no alcohol and I see a different person in the mirror. My eyes no longer look dull and vacant, they actually have a little sparkle and my skin doesn't look like uncooked pastry anymore. I feel that I have won a battle but not yet the war. Hope everyone else is at the point they want to be, I never want to be that person I was, I have been tempted but I just think back to what I had become. The sun is shining at the moment and I feel good and want to continue to have the sun in my life."

    Well, what can I say!!!!

Thank you TRC, Budgie, jo, GlasgowGirl, eselt, mollypolly (you remembered ), fayjmck and everyone else. I could have sworn I ticked the box for 'no publicity', but...

So January comes to a close (almost). I didn't think I would do this. I really didn't. I have proved something to myself big style. I hope you can all take something away from this too, regardless of the scale of your achievement, and head in to February with confidence

I will do a final list tomorrow (don't want to tempt fate by pre-empting todays effort), but thanks to everyone for everything on here. We managed to laugh, cry, argue and rant with each other and we're all still talking! (I think  ) Over 550 days collectively is a fantastic total....

Good luck for the list in Feb, WB (don't forget to check people's sigs ;)). I'll be around, but maybe not as much, now the weight of responsibility has been lifted :rotfl: :rotfl:

but if anyone wants to pay me retrospectively in stottie cakes......

:DNeigh, neigh, and thrice neigh :D

    ....hooray! Better late than never?

Lurkio well done on all fronts! & thanks for the tip re reading the sigs. I'm getting worried now, please don't go too far away! Apart from anything else your posts are always really funny (intentionally, I mean!) but no pressure.....

Jo you're in good company as ym also target-free. Good idea, actually! Might do that myself in March.

Miss Piggy - I had a curry in Swindon last night too! Was at a friend's on Marlborough Rd - is that near you?

Am just going to post the latest Feb list then am off again...good rest of weekend all x

Hi lurk. you can safely put my January closing balance / total down as 30/31.

Got plans tonight and none of them involve drinking, (except maybe loads of tea and water)

Well done to everyone, whether you set a target or not (and whether you made that target or maybe fell a little bit short of it). Remember - EVERY extra day spent alcohol free is a fantastic achievement.

Now lets turn and face february, with a roar and a 'bring it on' attitude.

    RAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be making the last day of Jan an AF day, went out last night and drank far far too much and suffering now, even had to sit through a hair cut which was a nightmare. Still, just got back via Tesco, 2 bottle of frijj milkshake and a pack of ready cooked cocktail sausages later and my day has begun to improve.

I feel extremely optimistic about February, had a weird thing happen to me this morning. I got an email from a friend of mine overseas, never met him personally but we became good mates through myspace, he's a born again christian in recovery, been clean for over 7 years now and was a great support to me back in 2006 when I managed to notch up 4 months sober. He contacted me out of the blue cos he had a feeling I was suffering. Sent me the longest email ever and gave me such inspiration and gave me tools to help me over the coming weeks.

    So, all good here :)

Congratulations to everyone for the massive successes, even if targets weren't hit, at least it's made people sit up and think about the consequences of drinking and maybe thinking about changing their lives.

    Well done :)

GP- love the idea of a 'raaaaarg!' to start the first day of the month- its so much better than starting the day with, 'christ wheres the anadin extras? what happened last night?'.
