  • Hi all -

Aren't our minds funny things? Bit heavy for first thing on a Monday morning, but I just need to run this by you.

My goals for this year were to get a grip on the controlling booze, and stop taking the antidepressants which were incredibly hard to taper off (I've been trying unsuccessfully since August last year). Well, I haven't taken my anti-d's this year, and feel that I have finally tapered off them (the side effects before were horrendous, and I always went back on them). Also, I have drunk loads and loads less this month that usual.

So what am I dreaming/craving of now whilst I sleep? A cigarette. I haven't smoked since my first pregnancy (more than 14 years ago) and only then was a social smoker, those Marlboro Lights - a pack would last me two or three days. I gave up easily and feel sick if I smell ciggie smoke on someone - horrible habit.

But my naughty little brain is making me want a ciggie - I woke up in the night after dreaming I had bought some, and was searching the bedside table for a lighter.

Can anybody throw any light on this (no pun intended!) or even relate to this.

    Have a good week everyone!

And knocks dust of the shelf

So the past has been bottled, and labelled with love.

Hi Patchouli, well done for coming off the anti dperessants and coming through the w/d symptoms or side effects and now feeling how you are without medication.

I am similar about ciggies. I smoked a max of 10 daily and stopped 10yrs ago and I have not had one since. I don't like smoking and the smoke people exhale while walking in the street which blows in my face.

Bizarrely sometimes I find myself wanting a ciggie. Only certain and infrequent times. I remind myself of why I stopped and how it would taste disgusting and that I don't want to smell of smoke or have the fumes in my hair and clothes. The craving then passes....it doesn't happen often but it still surprises me when it does because I have no intention of smoking again.

I agree the mind is a very powerful thing indeed however it is our mind afterall and we can overcome the suggestions it makes to us!

"Well, week 5 of no alcohol and I see a different person in the mirror. My eyes no longer look dull and vacant, they actually have a little sparkle and my skin doesn't look like uncooked pastry anymore. I feel that I have won a battle but not yet the war. Hope everyone else is at the point they want to be, I never want to be that person I was, I have been tempted but I just think back to what I had become. The sun is shining at the moment and I feel good and want to continue to have the sun in my life."

Apologies for going AWOL over the weekend - Just a word to whoever does February scoring (WB? still on for it?). Do NOT get Esther's score wrong..... :o:o that cage is mighty uncomfortable
    :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Normal service and all that.....

less than one week of the January challenge left. If we call this a test run ;) , we should be able to all set ourselves achievable February targets, whether that means going higher or lower than Jan..... I still don't know what I'm going to do... I hadn't thought that far ahead, thinking I would fail miserably on this one....:o

    I have several alternatives...

    1. Stay within guidelines (21 units / week)
    2. No drinking in the week
    3. No drinking indoors
    4. No drinking.

I'll work something out, I guess :undecided

Yeah I'll give it a go...my main reservation is that I go awol every weekend so will have to play catch-up with scores on a Monday but if everyone's happy with that I'll do it. In fact I'll miss Feb 1st, oops. Erm, I'll have to just copy wot you do, I have no imagination. Might try & put in money saved too? think TRC suggested that.

  • Hi

Well still on 24. Had my parents round last last and had a glass of wine. I am not going to beat myself up about it as my aim was to cut down and not abstain totally.

24 days for me is well good and I did not enjoy the wine and it gave me a headache and the rest of the bottle is in the fridge and thats were it will stay.

Will not reach my target but aiming to stay AF until the end of the month as It made me realise that I do not miss drink at all and do not need it every day.

    Have a good one

Good morning - have just caught up on the thread as I was away skiing over the weekend. There are some lovely and some thought provoking posts there - thanks and hugs to everyone.

Really liked the Geordie talk -I lived in Newcastle for three years as a student - so much fun. Spent the first three months not understanding what anybody said before getting my ears in. Still miss stottie cakes (or should that be sto-ee cay-uk) and Viz is just not the same....

I have only one day to add to my AF total, so 15 please Lurky.

I am really seriously contemplating an AFF, total abstinence. i have a couple of weekends away which may be an issue but otherwise the month is very straightforward. I think I want to do it just to show myself that I can and that I still feel good with that.
