    Hey there Sar,

I'm a long-time lurker on your diary - just thought I'd say hello & Happy New Year / diary! I can also recommend a Corsa - mine was £600 from a friend 3 years ago. It's lived through my younger bro's driving & has only cost £170 to MOT plus £32.99 for a new battery - fair play given it's a 1996 model!

Have a good Friday night xx

    Heya IA!

Huge happy new year and happy new diary :)

Just a mega quick post but wanted to say that carwise, everyone told me go Japanese or German too! I have a lovely little Nissan Micra which I call Mikey! Has wicked flowery car seats and mats and a smelly pig thing too :) Love it!

Have a fab night and can't wait to keep reading your diary!

  • Welcome to your new thread and the new year! Hope it goes well for you. In fear of being shot down - I'm going to say this and run .... we've never spent more than £1,000 on a car - always buy privately (take a friend) and thankfully have never had to spend much on any of them. Our current jalopy was £1,000 and we've had him nearly 2 years and only spent on tyres and and exhaust. I know where you're coming from but remember paying more doesn't guarantee no problems - and you could have your independance quicker. Right I've said my bit I'll run out quickly :)

    Take care

    xx

When I was looking for my car, I thought that I would be better spending a lot as this might mean that it would be less likely to go wrong but I knew this would take me ages to save for whilst debt busting. My micra was £250, long MOT and tax and only 47,000 miles on the clock too! I got a fab deal and I love my little car! No cam belt too as it has a chain and i had also just had a full gold service...I was very lucky!

    Happy New Year Sarah.

Unless you are going to be able to go back to work shortly and I realise that's difficult when they are both pre f-t school age and you need to pay nursery fees, it's going to take you a while to save your target. Will you be able to manage till then?
