Welcome to PurpleTeddyBear - we hope you like it here!

DaffodilTulip - the crochet pattern for the bunting is one I made up - I find crochet a lot quicker than knitting and I like to alternate between the two to stop my hands aching!

Here's the pattern - for different sizes just add more or fewer stitches!

I crochet around the edge of the hood bit which seems to give it a more finished look. Any problems - with that or anything else - please feel free to post on here.

    CROCHET BUNTING:

Make 34ch, turn, 1ch, then sc to end.
1st row: sc to end, turn, 2ch
2nd row: dc in 1st sc, (ch1, miss next sc, dc in next sc) to end (this gives you the holes for the ribbon)
Repeat 1st row of sc in each sc, until work measures 5" (I don't do metric - too old!)
Repeat 2nd row (for the row of holes for ribbon)
Next row: Sc in each stitch
Next row (decrease row) - slip stitch along to cast off 1st 5 sts, sc until the last 5sts, turn, 1ch,
Repeat 1st row on the remaining 24 sts, for a further 3" (work then measures 8").
Seam the top part for the hood. If you want, work a couple of rows of single crochet around the edge of the hood; this gives it a nice finished look. I may do this in contrast colour for the next ones I make.

That's all there is to it! Really quick and simple.

    Hi Jena,

Found this - hope it`s what you were looking for. Wish I could crochet - tried lots of times, get the chain bit done .............then totally lose the plot:rotfl: and go back to my knitting !!

Hi everyone - for a change, I've 'overslept' this morning and didn't get up until gone 5 - very late for me!

I can't believe how much there is to add to the update! This month has been phenomenal and it's not over yet - and it's the shortest month of the year! I'm just amazed at how well we are doing this year!

Nikki - I've just remembered you wanted the address for Preemies UK - when I've updated, I'll pm you with it.

Chalky - well said in your post yesterday!

Maytaurus - thanks for your pm - I'll take the photos of my crochet bibs and send them to you.

Welcome to all the children on here - we've three now and I think it's fantastic that they've all joined us. I'll try and keep 'Aaron's squares' as a separate item on here so it would be great if people could list them separately in their updates.

Sagaris - a warm welcome to you. As you can see, we are really busy and love newbies. Please read the very first post on this thread which has lots of info, addresses for sending things and so on. If there is anything you are unsure of, please ask - there will always be someone on hand to help!

I'm still writing out the patterns for the crochet bibs and will try and get those posted today.

Well, have a great day everyone - here goes for the update. Hope I get it right!

PLEASE NOTE: Thanks to everyone for such a good response to Chalky's appeal for the orphanage in Spain. Her SIL has arrived with all our items, and they have been delivered to the orphanage. Chalky has posted some great photos on page 27 of this thread. I think we will have made a big difference to a baby who arrived there with nothing; doesn't it make you feel good?!

LATEST UPDATE: Don't forget to let me know if I get these figures wrong - as some of you know, it's not difficult for me to make a complete hash of it!

Pippa - are you OK? Don't seem to have heard from you for a day or so? I hope everything is OK.

Shezmit - what is the actual size of Aaron's squares, and can they be crocheted as well?

Thanks to everyone for their latest totals!

  • ...especially maytaurus - I do love the pictures you put up here for us, thanks!
Just popped in for a quick fix whilst visitors and offspring still asleep - when I first posted on MSE a couple of months ago (about moths - eek!) my friend had to do it for me as I was so clueless and now , who'd a thunk it, here's me sneaking out of bed to get a quick peek - uh oh, this is probably the slippery slope...
I had one of those middle of the night thoughts, another 'eeek!' - I have so many patterns and links stored on my computer now, what if said machine goes belly-up and I lose them all??? EEEEKKK! Can't print them all off as it would be a mountain of paper, so I suppose the answer is to download to disc. Another thing to add to my list of 'Very Sensible Things I Should Do But Probably Won't Get Round To' - sigh.
Thanks Nikki for the star blanket link - that site has a fab list in the rhs side bar of links to other free patterns (you can see how this is getting out of hand, can't you?) Another link, if anyone feels the need for a bit of variety in their squares:http://www.warmupamerica.com/patterns.html - their squares are done in aran weight so you'd have to adjust a bit for DK, but does give some good ideas for different knit and crochet stitch patterns that are stable enough for blanket squares (oh, and in fact theirs are rectangles, 7" by 9", so you'd need to stop a bit sooner too.) Me, I'd be dead chuffed just to get a plain ol' garter stitch square done, the way things are round here at the moment.
Right, just time for a few rows of mesh hat no2 before we get going - but before that 'Welcome Sagaris!' good to have you here, it's fab but addictive, as everyone will warn you.
    Have a good weekend everyone,

Morning everyone. Thanks psso for the pattern - I've taught a few knitters to crochet - it seems to be getting the hang of holding the yarn in the"wrong hand"! I know what you mean redhead mum about storing patterns - I've boxes of patterns from the seventies just waiting to be put on disc! Have a nice weekend all

Jena - you're quite right about holding the yarn when doing crochet. It's the most important part, I think! Once that's been grasped the rest is easier. I like it because it's so much quicker than knitting but I think knitting is my first love!

The weather here is gorgeous today, so I hope you are all getting the same. Off shopping in a mo and DH is coming with me so I don't suppose I can sneak into the wool shop!

There is also a group here in Spain called Knit and !!!!! Methinks the Sunshine Bus will be full of knitted items on our return and of course more importantly wine for DS'S wedding in May !!

Hello everyone and welcome to all the newbies!
Great to hear everyones news and updates. After a few days missing in action I have finally completed 1 teddy for tragedy. I think I have found a new thing NOT to obsess over and I think he may be the first AND last TFT! Think I will get back to some more things that don't need so much sewing/stuffing/millions of ends to sew in. I'm sure it shouldn't have taken me quite so long :rotfl:
May have another go at trying to crochet later  I really want to get the hang of it - if only we were a knitting group able to actually meet I'm sure I would be able to twist someones arm to show me and wouldn't it be lovely to put faces to names? Anyway, off to have a :coffee: before DS1s friend comes over to play. We might take them out as it's trying hard to be a really nice day here. Hope you all have a good one.
