Special hallo to **Dawn / PurpleTeddyBear ** - fellow porridge-for-brains here, with a 6 month old baby girl - isn't it lovely?:j
Right, must crack on with some cooking as still have visitors staying and won't get much knitting time till next week - but can recommend the quick crochet blankie on Bev's site, it's growing quite quickly with minimal attention - link here: http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/5-daylovie.html (and holes not too big )
Have fun everybody,

Thanks for that - it looks lovely ...as though I don't have enough patterns but I do love trying another. I'm spending far too long reading all the posts instead of crocheting ....0 -
Good morning everyone - yes, I know it's early. Woke up at 3.30ish and couldn't get back to sleep. I hurt my back (again) yesterday and it woke me up. I shall do the update and then lie on the sofa and do some knitting.
I finished crocheting for my new great-niece last night. I made a pink preemie hat in newborn size and added a frill to it along with a white flower, made some matching booties with white ties, and invented a newborn size crochet bib which I am really pleased with, made in the same pink with a white frilly edge. I'm going to do it again but in preemie size, then I shall put the pattern on here, I'll try and remember to put a photo on the Yahoo site (I still can't post photos on here for some reason) and, if you like the bib, Shelley, you can add it to Preemies UK. The larger one I made was very easy.
DPixie - well done on getting your SIL knitting for Soweto!
Nikki - well done to your six year old for knitting. I've tried to teach my six-year old DGD but she doesn't concentrate enough so I've had to put it on hold for now!
Shezmit - well done to Aaron for his efforts. I shall list his name underneath yours!
Maytaurus - thanks for all the pattern links!
I hope all the newbies are enjoying it here - it's great to have you with us.
Have a great day and I'll catch up with you all later.

PLEASE NOTE: Thanks to everyone for such a good response to Chalky's appeal for the orphanage in Spain. Her SIL has arrived with all our items, and they have been delivered to the orphanage. Chalky has posted some great photos on page 27 of this thread. I think we will have made a big difference to a baby who arrived there with nothing; doesn't it make you feel good?!
LATEST UPDATE: Don't forget to let me know if I get these figures wrong - as some of you know, it's not difficult for me to make a complete hash of it!

Hi all.
Nikki - do you want to choose a name for your DD so she can be listed separately like we've done for Shelley's son Aaron? She can use her real name or a made-up one. I'm sure it will be really encouraging to see their totals mount up!
Tooties - yes, I still can't quite believe what has been happening here this week! The UK will surely soon run out of wool; then we'll have to start keeping our own sheep!
Shezmit - as I said in my last post, I've crocheted a preemie bib to my own simple design and now I'm working on a different shape. I'll post the patterns when I've checked them later. I can't load photos on here - I've tried several times, so I'll put the patterns on here and the photos on Yahoo. The bibs take next to no time to make and take very little wool so they'll be great for using up odds and ends.
I've just had a thought that maybe I could email someone the photos and they could post them on here?

Daffodiltulip - I've looked at that pattern and can't think what to do about the edges. Perhaps you could do the first stitch on each row on a smaller hook? Or maybe, when you've finished it, you could work an edging all the way round on a smaller hook and missing out every other stitch? It's irritating when that happens, isn't it? Perhaps someone else can come up with a solution?

I just got back from the wool shop and a different woman was there. I took in your comments as suggested, she looked really annoyed when I told her what had happened and called the girl through from the back that was there yesterday and asked her why she had said what she did to me yesterday. She just said she was trying to get me to buy the wool that was better for baby knits. She was asked to go to the back and the lady told me she knits for the local cancer respite center that has children of all ages that are getting cemo and some haven't got long to live. she said what we are doing is fantastic and gave me 5 balls of playtime and 10% off any other wool I wanted. She asked me to still come to the shop and buy my wool there and she uses playtime for all her knits as well and has had no problems. I bought another 5 balls and thanked her. She said that she would deal with Shelley once I had gone and assured me I would never be spoken to like that again. What a result!!!! So I now had enough wool for loads of knits for the babies. Thanks everyone now thats what I call dealing with a problem.Became debt free December 2022

Well done Nikki - what a great outcome from a horrible happening. Good for you for braving the shop again and speaking out - sounds like you've made things better for a lot of people in the future, especially all those babies you'll be knitting for! I'm intrigued by your 'star blankets', they sound lovely - looking forward to seeing some piccies.
All the best,
GinnyGinny
