Shez - I see you're all breasted out! Well done on meeting the challenge, though!
Daffodiltulip - thanks for all the info.
Mrs Moneypenny - what lovely photos. Both my boys had hit 6' by 14 - they're both 6'4" now, as is DH - they block all the light out of the windows when they're in the same room together and make me feel like a little elf!
I had forgotten you could take the IS hats to Help the Aged - the cost of postage does put you off and it would be great if Royal Mail could help in some way, but I think they are desperate for money these days!
Nikki - it's amazing that you survived -the power of a mother's love there! It just goes to show how these tiny items are so needed. Even a tiny little hat makes a big difference.

Hi all
Just seen the link on Martin's weekly letter, and just had to follow it!
I've been knitting since the age of 5, and have so many odds and ends to use up that I would love to join you all in making a difference to little lives and other things. Will get round to looking through my stash of stuff later today and get the needles moving on something quick. Am in the middle of a jacket for me at the moment, along with a cardigan for my 5 month old little girl. Am on maternity leave at the moment so have plenty of time!
Will post whatever I make to add to the totals, and will re-read the newbie intro properly.....quite fancy the Innocent hats, so off to find the pattern!
Happy clicking,
Dawn x:hello:0 -
welcome to the newbies, wether you have just made your first posting or wether you have just read about us on the news letter and thought you'd nip in to take a look at us.:hello: .
Daffodiltulip the boobs are knitted breasts that are used as an aid by midwives and health visitors to teach new mums how to breast feed their babies.
most of us have joined the loving hands group we knit them and post on to them and they distribute them as needed or as shezmit has just mentioned she gets requests for them via PreemiesUK
editted
if you do decide to knit boobs it works out far cheaper if you post them unstuffed if you are sending to loving hands as they are happy to stuff them their endSPC~12 ot 124

Welcome to PurpleTeddyBear - we hope you like it here!
DaffodilTulip - the crochet pattern for the bunting is one I made up - I find crochet a lot quicker than knitting and I like to alternate between the two to stop my hands aching!
Here's the pattern - for different sizes just add more or fewer stitches!
I crochet around the edge of the hood bit which seems to give it a more finished look. Any problems - with that or anything else - please feel free to post on here.
CROCHET BUNTING:
Make 34ch, turn, 1ch, then sc to end.
1st row: sc to end, turn, 2ch
2nd row: dc in 1st sc, (ch1, miss next sc, dc in next sc) to end (this gives you the holes for the ribbon)
Repeat 1st row of sc in each sc, until work measures 5" (I don't do metric - too old!)
Repeat 2nd row (for the row of holes for ribbon)
Next row: Sc in each stitch
Next row (decrease row) - slip stitch along to cast off 1st 5 sts, sc until the last 5sts, turn, 1ch,
Repeat 1st row on the remaining 24 sts, for a further 3" (work then measures 8").
Seam the top part for the hood. If you want, work a couple of rows of single crochet around the edge of the hood; this gives it a nice finished look. I may do this in contrast colour for the next ones I make.
That's all there is to it! Really quick and simple.
