Hi everyone - back for the update.

Nikki - I've just re-read your post and saw how many hats you made last year for the Innocent Smoothie campaign. 500 is very impressive, well done! £250 raised just by you!

Miss Angie - I hadn't got round to reading Martin's letter so thanks for telling us we've got a mention. That's the second time this year - great publicity!

Maggiebee, hi to you - like Mrs Moneypenny, the hats I bought last year for Innocent Smoothie will go back with the ones I make this year to raise more funds. They're very small so would not fit even tiny babies.

Well, I can't believe the amount I have to add to the list today - I didn't have time earlier so I'll do it now. Thanks to all of you - the totals are absolutely amazing!

Nothing to add to my own list because I'm making for the new baby in the family at the moment! It's great to have so many patterns to choose from!

    Have a great day, everyone.

PLEASE NOTE: Thanks to everyone for such a good response to Chalky's appeal for the orphanage in Spain. Her SIL has arrived with all our items, and they have been delivered to the orphanage. Chalky has posted some great photos on page 27 of this thread. I think we will have made a big difference to a baby who arrived there with nothing; doesn't it make you feel good?!

LATEST UPDATE: Don't forget to let me know if I get these figures wrong - as some of you know, it's not difficult for me to make a complete hash of it!

I've just edited the last update to include DPixie's two squares and Nikki's 39 hats for Innocent Smoothies.

Nikki - the hats are very satisfying to make, aren't they? I love the fact that they use up all the oddments of wool so, besides helping others, nothing gets wasted.

Thanks - the totals are even more astonishing now!

  • Can I just ask a question (might be a really silly one) can I knit things for the UK in white I saw the bit about it being thought of as a color of death in many countries but I have loads of white to use up. I was going to make a body warmer for loving hands (feel like a challange and change) would it be ok if I did it in white as I believe they are a uk based charity for the uk am I right sorry to ramble lol

  • white is fine for uk based charities. PreemiesUK (our Shelly) and loving hands are both happy to accept white knitting for use in our hospitals

  • 1. I knitted a number of hats not too long ago, however, the cost of posting them to the collection point has put me off doing so again! I wonder if the Post Office has thought about allowing free postage for items addressed to charities.
    2. For those who keep trying to knit and aren't able to grasp it but would like to knit for charity, try crochet - far simpler and much more convenient.
    3. FAO Carlislelass - why not an ice-cream tub? It's only an ice-cream tub because that's what it's called. If exactly the same item was labelled premature baby crib, it would be that, if the same item was made and called a cereal bowl, it would be that. What's the real difference between a cereal, bowl, a soup bowl, a pasta bowl etc? Ultimately, they are all containers - if it suits the need, that's what it is, regardless of what it was labelled for sale purposes.
    1. (again) Little hats and basic shaped clothing can be made out of fleece (or other materials). For a hat, all you need is a rectangle folded in half, stitched round (even something bold like blanket stitch is decorative and you don't need to turn inside out with it), a cuff turned up and if you want, simply embroidery or bits sewn on. Tassels or pom-poms sewn on the two top points make them look fun. Take care with the direction of stretch with fleece!
  • to save on postage you can take your instant smoothie hats into your local help the aged shops i believe, and if you want to knit prem stuff shelly can let you know if your local hospital needs items so you can knit/crochet them and take them in yourself.

  • I am knitting the body warmer and making me think how lucky I am. I was born at 26 weeks and only a pound in weight i was given a 1 in a million chance of living and was baptised ready to die. My mum came to see me everyday and willed me to live. She was told I would be disabled and not live a normal life by the health visitor. Against all the odds I am still here and survived.
I'm half way through the back of the warmer and sat here crying to think I small I was and makes me wonder how I am still here.

Sorry to be morbid just wanted to share
