  • A square is WAY above my level right now lol. Will keep trying.

I think i mastered single crochet in rows, but couldn't find anything telling me what to do after the first chain, and the first row. So I guessed.

    Hi All
Welcome Lorna! Hope you like it here - it's very friendly and everyone is very helpful. I have 2 young distractions so also need to do mainly things that are putdown/pickupable. If you fancy a change from the squares, the buntings are straightforward and because the pattern is in measurements you don't need to count rows and forget where you are.
I'm with you Shelbell! Tried to crochet a granny square from a youtube tutorial and it looked like a drunk spider had tried to spin a web and NOTHING like the lady on the tutorial did. Can do single chains but then I'm lost. Spent ages the other night trying a "simple" row by row square and admitted defeat once again. I will keep trying when I work up to it again but it feels like I'm using the wrong yarn or the wrong hook or probably just the wrong pair of hands! Perhaps I should just accept that my talents lie elsewhere - if anyone finds them, please let me know :D
Sewing up DH jumper - I hate the sewing up! Does that make me a "proper" knitter?
Kathy, please can you update me with 1 baby hat.
    Night everyone x

    Good morning everyone.

K2tog - no knitter I know likes the sewing up! I think it really is a sign of a proper knitter.

Shelbell - if you have a local wool shop, you could ask in there if they know of any crochet classes in your area. My wool shop does workshops every so often. I found it very frustrating when I first tried it, but I taught myself from books so, if I can do it, anyone can! Good luck!

Well, the thread was really busy yesterday! I shall update now and then go and add Maytaurus's link to the 'death row dogs' charity to the first post.

Thanks everyone and have a great day!

PLEASE NOTE: Thanks to everyone for such a good response to Chalky's appeal for the orphanage in Spain. Her SIL has arrived with all our items, and they have been delivered to the orphanage. Chalky has posted some great photos on page 27 of this thread. I think we will have made a big difference to a baby who arrived there with nothing; doesn't it make you feel good?!

LATEST UPDATE: Don't forget to let me know if I get these figures wrong - as some of you know, it's not difficult for me to make a complete hash of it!

Morning all. I am sitting here reading todays update Kathy and i am very glad that i am sitting down - the numbers are staggering - how quickly does everyone knit. I must be the slowest knitter in town!

Anyway can you please update me with 2 more squares and 3 more IS hats when you do the next update?

I have taken Anne's advice and started knitting a scarf - so i alternate between that and the squares - its very nice as they are two different colours and two different textures - one i need to keep an eye on (because of the type of wool), the other i can knit and watch telly at the same time - great fun i believe.

Kathy - i really appreciated what your mum said about making knitting for charity her lifes work - i love doing this and feel that it is so much better than making a meaningless donation through a sense of duty. This takes time and effort and consideration.

Thank you once again for this brilliant thread - i love it!

If anyone else does it and doesn't have any problems can they explain it to me please i think im being a bit thick:o .

bang goes my plan of using 1/2 term to complete some of the projects i've had hanging round on needles for ages;)
