Hi purple82 - cable needles are double-ended needles; to work cable you need to be able to slip stitches off the main needle onto a double-ended needle, which you put either behind or in front of the main knitting. The pattern will then tell you to knit the next few stitches on the main needle, then the stitches on the cable needle. This gives the 'rope' effect of cable.

Circular needles are for knitting in the round. If you google 'cable knitting tutorials' and 'circular knitting tutorials', I'm sure you'll find some instructions with pictures which will help more than my explanations!

Maytaurus - I'll pm you my email address. I just can't get that link to work at all.

    Thanks

    Hi all.

Maytaurus - I have emptied my message box! Thanks for the link to the sack boy pattern. I have now successfully downloaded it and saved a copy. Many thanks for doing that.

I hope everyone has a great evening. I shall be having an early bath and settling down to some knitting and crochet (and, no doubt, dozing off!)

Arrrghhhhhh Crochet  it is too hard and the book isn't clear and i don't know what I'm doing and it's too hard. :(

Followed an online tutorial which helped a bit. But it's hard.

Have managed to do the chain for the vent hat. Giving up now.

ShelBell - just try doing a crochet square to start off with, not anything that requires shaping or following a pattern. Crochet starts off seeming impossible to do but, once it has clicked into place, it's really easy, I promise! Here's a link to a You Tube tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w45qDIM5S9Y It's good because it shows you how to hold the wool and so on.
