This evening I have been knitting finger puppets. Jean from the LH site kindly sent me a Jean Greenhowe book of bazaar knits so I thought I'd try them out. They have turned out quite cute but they took me an age! I need more practice at small, fiddly things with sewing involved or I'll never get any better :o. I will add to the pair tomorrow I think, depending on what bright colours I've got in my stash - wouldn't want to have to buy more wool after all :D
Lovely to see you back Roamin and LCW. Hope you find your inner hooligan again soon Jean. Lorna, I hope your family has a real improvement in the general luck situation - you surely must have had your quota of misfortune lately - take special care of yourself while you are so under pressure.
    Maytaurus, loved the twin story.
Hope the situation improves for everyone who needs it to - specially the kids who are having bad time.
Pam, I am going to have a circular needle type question for you soon, when I get my own head round it - I'm confusing myself :rotfl:
  • :cool:Hi Guys - up late and working on pc so thought I would drop in and see what has been going on with you all :0) So sad that some of you have been unwell and others have family probs - big hugs to all who need them from me ;0)

PSSO - We are missing your input over at LH - thought your pc was still broken as I have been trying to email you with recipes for nearly 2 weeks and every email I send is bounced back as undeliverable. Hope all is well with you - so sad that Bridge of Don LH group has closed down - hope you will be able to make it to the Stonehaven meetings until such time as we get another group in the City. Do get in touch and let me know how everything is going - Mag is coming down to me on Saturday on her way back from the quilting show at Ingliston so I am giving her a knitting machine to bring up to you (she told me you fancied trying one out) - hope you like it xx

As for me - I am like the tortoise - slow and steady - wounds still not healing well so I am stuck in limbo until they are completely healed. Once we see that I will find out what the next steps are to be in my reconstruction. I am now so used to living under all these bandages, a mask and a wig that I feel like I am travelling 'incognito' permanently!

Loving Hands challenges are going well as always - still need lots more boobs if we are to make our target and I now have no prem items left and very few newborn ones as we had a couple of appeals to fill and our last remaining stocks went to them. Everyone is working so well and we are still getting new members all the time (nearly 800 members now and still growing - wow - that is brilliant in just over 2 years!).

Thanks to all the wooligans who are also members of LH for all your wonderful donations to our challenges - everyone seems to be happy with the choices this time and we are even getting lots of men's waistcoats, slipovers and even jumpers for the 'men' challenge - thought most of the members would make socks, mitts, hats and scarves - the gents who receive all of these wonderful garments will be delighted!

Right off to bed as I am up at 7am - thanks for the link to the parcel site Gill - we have been using Parcel2go.com and they charge just £7.92 for up to 25kgs but your one is much cheaper for smaller parcels which would suit most of the members for their donations :0)

Oh, I'm missing coming on here as often as I would like! So much news to catch up on and things I want to say! Love my visitors dearly, but want just a little bit of time to be able to keep up with you all. Last night we all decided to have an early-ish night (only two glasses of wine each, for a change!), so at least I was able to get up early and have the house to myself for a while, before they all wake up.

Lou - it's lovely to hear from you, but always makes me feel guilty because it's ages since I sent anything to you. The pace of life is slower here in France than the UK, but it still seems to whiz past me at a rate of knots! I'm so sorry to hear that your healing is taking a long time but it never fails to amaze me how matter-of-fact you are about it all. You certainly don't let it hold you back, do you? I think you are very brave - the perfect Loving Hands lady. My Mum (LilyMay) has been busy moving house - and having a few mishaps along the way - but will soon be settled enough to start knitting again. Although nothing as serious as your dreadful accident, she mistakenly put Olbas Oil in one of her eyes, instead of her glaucoma drops, and it has taken her ages to get over that, bless her.

Lorna - what bad luck your family gets. I do hope things get better for all your loved ones soon.

Chalky - your poor DOH - will he OK for driving to Spain, or will you have to do it all? Hope it heals quickly.

F1 and Shaz - (((hugs))) to you both and your boys. Hope the bullying problems get dealt with properly.

K2tog - that's the only problem with making small things. They're so quick to make, but very fiddly to put together. I've knitted a few tiny dolls over the years, but the sewing up always takes a lot longer than the knitting.

ISOM - good luck with the knitting group. Please keep us up to date with it - it sounds wonderful! I'm so sorry about your cats - you've made sure they've gone to a good home, so you've done your best for them.

Maytaurus - thanks for all the piccies and especially for all the updating of info that you do for us. It's so helpful - I was so pleased to find the link to the parcel collection service. I had forgotten all about it, but have just printed it all off and sent it to my Mum in the UK, along with the addresses of her nearest collection points. She will find it really handy when she starts knitting again for charity.

Jean - I hope you're feeling happier now. Perhaps, as Maytaurus has said, it's S.A.D? (((Hugs))) to you.

Well, I'm going to go and look over the last few days of the thread because I've only skimmed over it. I hope all the newbies are settling in and enjoying life on here.

Once my visitors have gone, I shall be able to log in more often and keep up with you all properly.

Anyway, I'm off for another cuppa - I'm really enjoying having this early morning start. We're going out later - our visitors have a puncture in one of their tyres, so we put the spare on last night (I say 'we', but us girls just sat and watched while the men did the work!) so we need to find the nearest tyre place here to get that sorted. Then we are off to explore the medieval quarter of the town. Yesterday we took them to a place called Niort (known locally as little Venice because it has some wonderful canals); right next to the car park, we saw some activity going on, and it was an archeological 'dig' - they've unearthed some ancient stone steps and other structures, and on the fence that kept all us nosey parkers out, they had listed all the things they have found in the area over the years. I could have stood and watched for hours - it was fascinating. I shall definitely be keeping up with progress on that. Niort is a wonderful place - we strolled around in 31 degrees of sun, stopping for coffee at all the little outside cafes, and taking photos (which I will put on Facebook at some point). I seemed to have collected another friend along the way - a little old lady kept following us and coming up to me and talking (all in French!), so I just made a few French-sounding noises to her and she seemed to understand. She had no teeth in but kept grinning at me! Anyway, in one cafe, I went to the loo, and she was in there, too - she had brand new dentures which she had laid out next to the sink, with her denture fixative, and she was putting them in while I was washing my hands! She was still talking to me, not in the least embarrassed! Then I went back out and sat down with DH and our friends, and told them what I'd just seen - then the lady came out of the cafe, came right over to me, and gave me a huge beaming smile to show me her new teeth! I used to be a dental nurse which made it all seem even more surreal! DH says I seem to attract all the oddballs! Anyway, it made for an entertaining afternoon. Maytaurus - bet you can't find the right picture for that - or can you?!

Well, I've really 'mioliered' away on here, so I'm off and will catch up with you all when I can.

    Have a great day, everyone.

    Morning all.
Firstly, big hugs to those of you who have been through it recently (still learning all your names!).......I hope things are better soon.
My news is.......I finished knitting my first boob and have taught myself how to crochet a bottom part (half done) :T:T. I am pleased with how it is going and looking forward to making more to send!
Anyway, plaster on my finger (don't ever try to cut a cinnamon stick in half with a blunt serated knife!) so cannot type that well, hence short message!
    xx OS

If anyone is ordering clothes from Land's End then please ask for a the knit kit

    http://www.landsend.co.uk/static/landingpages/feelgood/

    Hats for sailors.

I'm a knitting lurker, only knit in the winter and tend to make Arran or Fair Isle stuff for family. Am half way (since last year) up a very very complicated lacey scarf but it makes my brain and eyes hurt!

PS - just seen that the pattern is free to download too.

Good morning everyone, hope you're all well and happy. I haven't posted on here lately as I've been trying to sort the garden out for winter, it gets harder every year! As it's cottage style there's rather a lot of work, I'll have to try to invent a 'low maintainance cottage style'. Is it my imagiation or do the birds seem hungry earlier this year? There's an old pigeon that harasses me for food every time I open the door, and an almost tame blackbird that will steal cat food out of the tin while I'm trying to feed the strays. Even the sparrows are shouting at me to hurry up with food.

I've been making items for christmas stalls, but that means no preemie items, so I think maybe I'll have to alternate between them. Decisions! I assume we send just the crib and not the tub as well?

Mioliere, that little town sounds idyllic, the old lady sounds wonderful.

Nice to see you more often Maytaurus, I'm definately going to invest in a light box this year. I always sit by a window anyway, but it's just not enough.

LCW it's time you and you're family took a dip in the good luck box. Hope the flu is gone and didn't leave you feeling down, not that you have the time!

ISOM I can feel your hearbreak over your cats, I am so sorry this has happened to you, but you seem to be coming out the other side now, and sounding more positive. The knitting group for wool sounds like a dream come come true. Does your lodger do anything woolly?

Hope the bullies are getting their comeuppance, that's good old fashioned word isn't it?

    Love to everone xxx
