Hi K2
why are you still up - as bad as me - :rotfl:
I really don't understand why the designers do this - it can be so confusing!
Pattern states :
NOTE: there is a 3 stitch garter stitch border that IS NOT wrote out, so be sure you knit the beginning and the ending 3 stitches each row
ok - cast on 97,
knit 5 rows then, start and end each row with k3 for the border so the first pattern row is:
border(knit 3): K1, *k2tog, K4, yo, K1, yo, ssk, K1; repeat from *until 3 sts remain, border(knit 3)
Row 2 (and all even rows) border(knit 3), purl to last 3 sts, border(knit 3)
etc.........
Hope this helps
luv

Lovely post maytaurus, if anyone tried to ban you we'd gang up on them. On the state of the world subject, which I found very interesing, I read that the government admitted there are (forget how many) thousands of children in this country living under the poverty line. How dare they. Possibly we shouldn't get started on this.
Chalky, my squares should get posted today, our p.o. closed down 6 years ago, what a bind, but brother is going into town.0 -
morning all, hope that you are all okay and that the little bit of sunshine that is peeping through excites you as much as it does me.
maytaurus - what a lovely e-mail - and as it happens i agree with you totally. humans (in general) are so selfish, greedy and self-seeking that we are a very poor species, if only more people logged on to our thread, what a wonderful place the world could be!
ISOM - i was wondering about the beads - what a pain.
chalky - i will work some more on my squares today, hopefully i can finish the large one so i can post them to you on friday (when i post a little parcel to loving hands). i love the thought of knitting those slugs and snails, but the sewing up - that just turns me right off. i have about 20 IS hats that have not been included in my totals as they have not been sewn up, (and are not even counted in my WIP) and i am too horrified by the thought of sewing up to even take them out of my knitting bag - perhaps i should make monday next week the day for that and then send them out?
jean, hope that you are well, heard that the weather up your way was not as sunny as further down south. re the horses, they are lovely, but do have their problems. one of the horses is blind (something went wrong in childbirth) and it is so sad to see. however, the foal helps its mummy find its way around, and when the foal is off playing, the other horses help it up and down the (steep) hill to the little river in the forest where they go to drink when the sun is at its highest. however, remember as beautiful as they are, they do bring some sadness with them. AND - they are the most efficient lawn mowers around, they have done a stirling job, just as good as any tractor!
have a lovely day everyone, hugs all around and Elaine ... we are thinking of you and sending you special hugs too.

Hi all - I woke up late this morning for some reason, so I've had a rushed start to the day, which I hate. I am now sat down with a cup of coffee and relaxing on here before I have to pop out to the shops. Here in France, they don't use the amount of fresh milk that we do in the UK. Because I didn't go out until the afternoon yesterday, all the fresh milk had run out in the shops. They only have a small stand of the fresh stuff in the stores because most people use long-life milk, which is OK in an emergency, but we prefer the fresh. I don't think they'd believe the amount of milk the UK gets through or the fact that they are continually restocking the shelves with it. Anyway, I had to buy the long-life milk, but will need to get out this morning to make sure I can buy fresh.
Maytaurus - how good to hear from you and don't you dare think your posts are too big! We all love them - you put so much thought and effort into them, and the links you find are fantastic. I loved all of your quotes, too, and will print them off. Words well worth keeping in mind. I was still offline in March so I missed your terrific ironing piccie - it's really great. I just wish I had the nerve to stand on my ironing board! I'd much rather surf on it than iron! I hope you have a good day today.
ISOM - good luck with all the beads! You may be able to go back to the pattern book after a break from it!
I am sewing up the baby cardi I am making for my new grandchild - it seems to be taking forever because I'm fitting it in between work, DH's end-of-trading accounts, and the usual domestic stuff.
Chalky - I hope the sewing-up is going well. It's very good of you to do it for us, and the piccies are lovely.
Well, I hope everyone has a good day.
I'd better run before the milk runs out!

DPixie - we all hate the sewing up but I've found with some things that I can 'sew' up using a crochet hook that is slightly narrower than the knitting needle. I also crocheted part of the baby cardi I've been making. Instead of picking up stitches and knitting the neck band and down the sides of the fronts, I crocheted in single-crochet and even managed to make the buttonholes that way, too. It's given it a nice 'finished' look. I'm going to try and set the sleeves in with crochet, too. Will let you know how I get on!

Pam - thanks for the lovely pattern links.
I've just looked at the photos on Wooligans - there are some lovely ones there. Chalky - I love your name-bunting. What a fantastic idea (and one to copy, too!).
Well, I had to pop out for the milk this morning, and I found a discount store which sold some wool - only the fancy wool, though, no DK or anything like that, but I did pick up four balls of eyelash wool for hedgehogs - two in a chestnut colour, and two in a rust colour.
Well, back to work, I suppose!

Hi ISOM
Found this one which is really pretty and for mohair but don't know if it might be too much?
http://www.mielkesfarm.com/oldshale.htm
It's on 6mm needles so should knit up quite quickly (you could maybe even go up to 6.5) and of the 5 row repeat, 3 are knit, 1 purl and only 1 is more complicated. Good luck with it0
