Hi, you can get Rosewood needles from ebay for between £10 and £12. I had a peek because I am tempted to see what they are like to knit with! You might be able to get them cheaper elsewhere because ebay is not always the best place for a bargain these days!
I am still on the friendship square and have a question!
I have done it to the size of the 7.5 inches and am starting on the next set of logs, what I wanted to know was to the logs always stay at 19 rows to get to the correct size?
Probably a really silly question but just wanted to ask!
Thanks!BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0 -
ooh nooo dont tempt her!! (will let her know!)
nt sure re the sqaures being a novice but asked mum (who can do cable!) who said it will get bigger with each log...ie you go all the way along and rows increase with each chunk of color IYKIM?Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Hi Don -
Each log will have more stitches on it as you'll pick up more each time you go round; however the "depth" of the log will always be the 19 rows to ensure they measure the same all the way round.
Hope this makes sense...I've now done 4 little friendship squares (7.5") and one Memory square (15") and sticking to 19 rows on each step has made them the perfect size!!

Hi everyone - we finally have a satellite installed (first time DH has done one) and it only took about fifteen minutes to position so now we get all the UK freeview channels. Of course, I've had to 'help' with the installation so no knitting done. I'm going to sit down now for an hour and do some.
Hope you are all having a good evening.
Shelley - hope you're feeling a bit better today.

Hi Shez, good to see you "about". Hope you're feeling better today. I would love to help with the log squares but to be honest, I am struggling! I did a different friendship square and the started the log pattern for the bigger square and I think I will have to do some fudging
as I seem to keep ending up with the wrong number of rows...I don't seem to be finding it as easy as everyone else. Make sure you don't overdo it Shez
.
Hope everyone is well x0 -

Hi Shelley, I hope you're feeling a bit better,
Hi K2Tog nice to "see" you
I've scribbled a bit - hope this helps
MEMORY SQUARE = 15 inches
double knitting yarn 4 mm needles
knit every row slipping first stitch of each row.*
Cast on 20 sts loosely*, knit 38 rows to make central square. Cast off loosely* leaving last stitch on right hand needle.
Pick up 19 sts evenly along the left side of the square – 20 sts. Knit 19 rows. This creates the first ‘log’ of the log cabin.
Cast off as before, leaving last stitch on right hand needle.
Pick up down the left side – 10 sts from the side of the last knitted block and 20 sts from the cast on edge of the original square. 30 sts . Knit 19 rows
Continue like this. The next 2 ‘logs’ will have 40 sts, following 2 logs 60 sts etc.
When logs are completed on each side cast off. Carefully sew in any ends.
N.B. Always cast off with the same side facing up and pick up down the left side of the work.
* this makes it easier to pick up stitches.
FRIENDSHIP SQ. = 7 ½ inches
I’ve done the above patt with ½ No. stitches/rows. Some have done the above centre and one log
[FONT="]Chalky75 re-iterated that plain squares are equally acceptable.
You can always tweak the number of rows in your "logs" to get you into the ballpark for measurements.
Give us a shout if its unclear - makes sense to me but  its a bit late in the day:rotfl:
luv:smileyhea
Pam
PS - I should mention that the original pattern came from projectlinusuk,
if you like the concept, there are tons of patterns around using this principle in all sorts of different ways!

Makes sense to me Pam, but have been on the pink falling down water, so everything is making sense, and I am giggling a lot (apparently)!!
