Hi, I get a sore finger and thumb on my right hand quite often and have to give the knitting a break from time to time. same when I crochet too. But it doesn't make me stop for long! ;)

F1widow - I cross stitch too! Although I am more succesful with knitting and crocheting, I am ashamed to admit that I have two unfinished cross stitches somewhere! :o And another lovely one of a peacock not yet started.

shezmit - sorry to hear that you are having trouble - i get a pain in my first finger from time to time like its locked can be a sharp pain then i have to ease up on the knitting - i have mild (at the moment! luckily) arthritis though so i just put it down to that (along with other aches and pains) - was considering the gloves myself and may have to give in to them soon - im not saying it is arthritis - could be repetitive strain - maybe you should get it checked out xxxx

I think that and the sunshine are reasons they often live longer & healthier lives and not just the Mediterranean diet
As mioliere said, it can ‘drive you mad’ when something needs doing although her ‘‘DH is starting to 'live with it' as he puts it!’’
I’m afraid I have to side with Kathy’s OH as try to be much more like them now since my M.E. got so bad cos I’m sure all the running about all over the place and worrying about getting everything done & wanting it to be perfect has something to do with how it got to this level
It was really hard at first but now I wish I’d adopted their attitude a long time ago

I think you’ll find the video links far more helpful than a book, I know I have as you can actually watch someone doing things and I think that’s always easier

I often think how lucky we are to have so much info available on the internet and how much harder it was for my mum and her generation to find things especially the FREE patterns which of course they always had to buy them
Which reminds me? ................ a few more here, although I have seen some of the content on other sites

and all those chickenpox have gone now
It takes 11-20 days to develop
Shingles is a re-emergence of the chickenpox virus in people who have already had chickenpox and can’t be caught from your DGS, so don’t worry
People who haven’t had chickenpox can’t get shingles.

re;’ Any advice ....... my left hand hurts and aches mainly my thumb when i am knitting and i can only do a couple of rows and then it starts,’
There could be several things causing this, or it might just be one of those thing that goes away on it’s own
I think you should mention it to the GP if it continues though
    You could crochet .....
I could only do basic blankets, but I have been learning how to make everything in crochet now
I can’t do knitting either as you said ‘can only do a couple of rows and then it starts,’
It makes my hands, shoulders neck & back ache & then my hands/fingers go into spasms
As you are only using one hook with crochet and the weight of a larger item is on your lap rather than on the needles, I am able to do it most of the time and I’m so glad I can.

maytaurus - welcome back - hope that you are feeling okay. i know just what you mean when you say that we should just go with the flow, however, we have been waiting for this house to be finished for a couple of years now, there were a few false starts and then the builders took the contracted amount of time to finish and hand over, and our painter has not even finished the undercoat (on the inside of the house) and he started in early April!!!! i suppose its frustrating because there were days that we waited at home for him to turn up and he didn't (not even a phone call to say that he wouldn't be there) and if he had left his paint on site, i would have done the work and deducted it from his bill. oh well, as you say, let it be and i suppose i can get on with the crocheting. i have found a few simple patterns for cardigans which i am going to try out when i have reached my new target for squares (20 of each colour that i am doing) i am quite excited, however, i am not sure that i am going to understand the patterns, but i will share that problem when it arises.

oh well, more housework to do (does it ever end - and i dont even have children, only one quite tidy husband) and then down to the gym to get rid of the frustrations and then i will settle down to a bit of gentle lunchtime crochet.

    have a wonderful sunfilled day.

Hi Maytaurus - as Shaz said, your posts are such a great way to start the day. I really enjoyed reading today's. I hope the ME leaves you in peace today. The hedgehog pattern is gorgeous. I can't to try it!

Shaz - I love the patterns. Methinks my whole family may get knitted underwear for Christmas this year!! Good luck with your DS today.

For those of you suffering pain for your art; this is how my tendonitis started, I'm afraid. Having said that, thought, I'm a firm believer of 'use it, or lose it', and I find my hands suffer more if I try and rest them. I just won't give up knitting, crocheting or typing- I just won't!! Life wouldn't be worth living!

F1 - I do cross-stitch, though not as much as I used to, because I'm finding it harder to do in electric light - old age creeping on, I'm afraid. I also make some cards but only very simple ones. The cards here in France are so poor compared to the choice we have in the UK, and they are expensive for what they are. I made my Mum a 'New Home' card for when she recently moved back to Weston-super-Mare. I found a lovely old watercolour picture on the internet of when the Grand Pier (which was sadly burned down last year, if you remember). I just printed the picture on some cardstock, and wrote Welcome Back Home, and she loved it. It was such a lovely colourful picture that I didn't embellish it or anything; she said it was the perfect card.

Chalky - August isn't far away, is it? How many favours do you have to make? Good luck with them! I shall check out Lou's latest -she truly is an inspiration, isn't she? She's braver than I'd ever be, and I hope that, at the end of this awful time for her, her life just gets better and better.

Elaine - how is your DH?

LC - I'm thinking of you and your family.

My DH has the day off today so he's 'playing' in his barn. Rather him than me - he has swept up some rather large spiders in there! It is a lovely barn, though, with lovely stone walls, and huge wooden beams. The floor is cobbled with a path running down the middle, which we think must have been used for rolling barrels out. It's as big as a house; the original idea was to turn it into a separate house for when family and friends visit - but we're still deciding what to do once the main house is finished.

The weather is gorgeous here today, and it looks like a good week ahead. Last week was pretty miserable, so I was glad to see the back of it.

I finished two hats yesterday. Shez - I shall wait until I have a fair-sized parcel before posting anything.

Well, I'm going to have another read of Maytaurus's post, and print off the heggie pattern.

Hope you all have a great day.

    Morning everyone
Great to see you back Maytaurus - is the racing driver in your pic a man or woman? Sorry clueless about F1, but (s)he? has beautiful eyes.
Elaine, hope things are better for you and yours.
linedancerann - I haven't put it in the post yet but I will.
Have been a bit lurky lately as am trying to make sense of matched betting on the loopholes thread - I'm starting to think I have become an airhead as it is taking some concentration and still don't think I've grasped it! May I recommend the excellent Donglemouse diary if anyone is interested in having a look.
Shez, sorry to hear about your hand. I noticed when I was doing extended knitting stints my left hand hurt - last 2 fingers especially from curling around the needles. I try and swap between knit and crochet now and the buntings are easy to run up and the angel pockets aren't too bad to do either - nice and quick so I don't feel like I am wasting time by doing crochet. The buntings and pockets are easy to do while watching telly and stuff too - just as easy as a knitted bunting. Have you ever tried crochet?
I must go, I need to have a cup of tea and then do some digging in the garden and some other MSE things that I have been putting off because I hate paperwork!
Hope the weather is as good for everyone else as it is here x
