Hi everyone! I'm back online with a computer that is superfast; I can't believe how slow it had become until it was tweaked by my wonderful techie. It took him a long time to get back my internet connection, but he was so determined and wouldn't give up. He arrived at 4.30 and left at 11pm! He's one of DS2's friends so DS2 came, too, and, although the techhie had to work really hard on my PC, we had a great evening. They both had dinner with us because I could tell it was going to be a long night! Anyway, I'm thrilled with the results - he wiped off loads of rubbish that I had collected over the last four years and it feels like a brand new computer.

Pippa - welcome back! I'm glad you had a good time. I kept thinking of your reaction when you came back and saw all the activity on here! It's gone mad, hasn't it? Martin mentioned us again in his weekly email which brought us a lot of lovely newbies and the totals have gone through the roof! I do my update in a separate post now, because it's getting so long! Thanks for your good luck wishes for France - it was quite a quick but mind-blowing decision to move but, with DH's work taking a real downturn, we thought we'd go and sort out our house in France with a view to selling it all up and coming back here. We bought the house to live in permanently, but I really don't want to leave the family, so we are hoping that, eventually, we will end up with a house here and a smaller holiday home in France. Moving there is the best way to get it all done! It's quite an adventure and I'm starting to look forward to it but I still get very upset at the thought of leaving everyone behind. Thank goodness for the internet and Skype! Apart from the few days of the move itself, I shouldn't be away from here for too long. We are arranging to have the internet connection set up so that it's ready when we get there, and I can switch it all on at the same time as the kettle!

Prfungi - you found a real bargain - all that stuff for £10. Well done! I prefer the shorter needles, too; DH has cut down some of my wooden ones for me.

    Jellybeans - you've been busy!

Zippitty - they do knit in France but, as Roamin in the gloamin will confirm - the wool is very expensive. I bought more supplies the other day (wool, toy filling and bodkins) and, since I told DH that wool is expensive there, he has suggested that I buy even more, so I shall do that next week. I have the most beautiful pine cupboard that will be my wool store - it's huge and will need filling right up! I'll buy a mixture of pastel and deep colours. I don't need any white for a while; I already had loads and my Mum has just sent me a huge 400g ball which she found on sale in her local town. She bought several because she couldn't resist it but ended up with way too much.

K2tog - knitting retreat holidays - sounds fantastic. I mentioned it to DH and he groaned at the thought of a load of us ladies sat knitting, talking about knitting, and drinking wine in the garden! I suppose it sounds like a bloke's worst nightmare but I love the idea!

Well, I'm afraid I got half a bootie done yesterday, what with all the phone calls we've had to make for our move, hours spent deleting old documents from the PC prior to its 'service', and chatting with DS2 and the techie last night. Tonight, I am determined to settle down early and get on with sewing up Shez's latest teddies. She's worried they'll get seasick on the ferry, so I need to get them done before we move. Any more that get sent to me will end up having dual nationality!

Thanks to you all for your good wishes for my new (temporary) life across the channel!

I feel really bad as I haven't done any knitting for a few days, was busy making my mum's no knit scarf (Started it before I learnt how to knit)

That's all finished now and will be in the post today for her so I can get back to my knitting tonight and who knows I may actually finish my first square.
*~* My life is a little mystery that I am still trying to solve*~*

    Hi all - me again
I think may have completed the gown & hat - BUT - I'm puzzled (just for a change :rotfl::o ) should there be some fastenings on the gown - if so what? Should the skirt be stitched ?

Sorry about all the questions - its a symptom of my depression - uncertainty & inability to make a decision. Hey hum working on it!

    regards
    Pam

Pam with this gown you leave it open at the back as its easier to put on the babies, If you look on the picture on the pattern you will noticed the skirt is folded to give it a shape on the bottom, if you would like to finish the gown off i will do if you put a bit of extra wool in for me to sew up

  • Morning all

Just a quick fly-by to say "hello" and welcome to all the newbies, and a big wow to everyone for all the totals. We all seem to be doing so well

Update for me for the moment -
    1 bunting
    1 baby hat
    1 IS hat

Redhead Mum - we managed the carrot and whatever else mushed up stuff it was, and the feeding must be working as DD was weighed yesterday and is now up to 13lbs 7 oz (ok, still small for 6 months, but she was only 5lb 2oz when she was born). She's sitting in her bouncy chair at the moment blowing raspberries at me - she's ever so cheerful this morning!

Off to hang the washing out, collect DS from nursery and then crack on with sewing my jacket up (and picking up all the stiches for the button band...just checked the pattern and its 293 stitches all the way round...eek!!)

Shelley - thanks for letting me know about the sizings, will now get more done!

    Back for more laters,

    Dawn x

Thanks Shelley. All stitched & hat knitted - just the ties to do.

Went back to the Woolshop yesterday & picked up more of the snuggly wool - there was much more stuff on offer and i ended up spending all this weeks ciggy money so really will have to give them up.
While there one of her supplier reps came in, I cheekily asked if he could arrange a donation, he said he'd see what he could do - if anything he would send to the shop for me !!!!!!!!!!!! I'll let you all know what (if anything) turns up.

Hoping to get my neighbour started on a Blanket later today - told her all about this thread and how hard you all work :T:T she is interested in resurrecting her knitting skills but wants something more challenging than squares - saw the blanket I made last week and fancies a go at that. Told her I could probably find a pair of needles for her :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    'bye for now
