Can someone help a newbie with understanding the poker tourneys please?

I've looked at the info on http://www.allvegaspoker.com/tournaments.php

If there's a buy-in value, say MGM Grand @ $65, does that limit the cost to a total of $65? Or is there an open-ended commitment?

    Thanks

These are the buy in amounts for the tournaments- There are 2 columns- buy in and admin fee.

The buy in is the amount you pay (one off payment that goes into the pot for winnings). The admin fee is a payment to the casino to pay for the upkeep, dealers etc and this money is taken right away by them. So for a $65 tournament you will also pay $15 admin fee, so the amount you buy in for is $80 in total.

You can also sit down and play cash games- you just ask at the desk what games they have going (usually on an electronic board). These are set blinds and dont get raised (eg $1-2) and these are played all day. You can sit down when you want and leave when you want. I dont think there is a minimum you can sit down with but they usually say $200 max- but you can come and go as you please.

if you are going to play poker in Vegas , i suggest it isn't your first time playing in casino surrounding.

Online poker can hone the maths skills and tourney strategy, but there is etiquette , rules and tells (hiding and reading) to learn in a casino , that you cannot learn online.

your local casino should have a game you can go play 1st.

The MGM is $65 with no rebuys. If you're that new to poker I wouldn't recommend the MGM tournie.

I dont play tourny as I like to be able to control the time I spend at the tables but I found cash in the MGM a great place to play and novice friendly.
Its Vegas time -no longer :T a five year old has changed Vegas time to Orlando time

Agreed, it's a great poker room - I meant more the buying level (i.e $) and standard of play wouldn't be ideal for a novice, i.e. for the tourny.

i would say slim because they can make money from hiring Sat Nav separate .

why don't you buy your own . we payed £150 for a Garmin with Full north american mapping ( as well as europe of course) .

i think you will get charged about $25 a week from a hire company.

we always hire a SUV .

I'm up for it too, but would prefer to discuss it nearer the time. Maybe looking at 6 May as a possibility to catch those leaving and those arriving.
