Steff -in 8 stays at the Orleans I've noticed that smell once-when we had a low floor in the old tower-since then we've always asked for and got 17th floor in the new tower. This time we got old tower floor 2 though-but no smell.

Hi duchy - thanks for this. I have only stayed at The Orleans once and maybe we were in the old tower then - I really dont know. I will ask for the new tower next time - we were on the 13th (!) floor last time.

Terribles is gone and there's a couple of new ones which we didn't try. I've always found the courtyard to be a bit variable but it was excellent this time. The buffet we only tried for breakfast and still found excellent value -maybe a notch down from it's best but maybe that is because we ate at the Spice market the day before ;)

I wont really miss Terribles that much and I, too, found The Courtyard a bit hit and miss. SO glad to hear that the breakfast buffet is still great! Its really nice isnt it?

No room renovations, the casino is entirely recarpeted and there is a new high roller area to the left of reception.
As always not charged the resort fee .

Shame that they havent spruced the rooms up a little - I found them to be fine but worn in places - ah well - I still love it there!!
I think they had started on the high roller area when we were there - wont really make use of that though!
I wasnt charged the resort fee either.

We split our stay last summer between the Gold Coast and the Orleans-I really didn't like the GC buffet and found their casino a bit boring but with both the Palms and the Rio across it wasn't an issue.

So - hand on heart - which did you prefer? The location of Gold Coast is great cos you have the Rio over the road BUT it is a LOT smaller than The Orleans isnt it? I just cant get my head round switching hotels mid stay - it seems like such hard work as I DETEST packing! BUT maybe it would be worth considering next time.

Cocktail service was patchy at most of the strip casinos but excellent at the Orleans, Palms and Wynn.

Yep - I always found that a hefty first time tip got them coming back regularly at The Orleans. Whilst playing Craps we didnt see a waitress for AGES - then once we had tipped well they were back every 15/20mins - great night!!!

Once again Duchy - thanks for sharing!

Anyone know if there is an iron and ironing board in the MGM grand tower rooms
I assume so, there has been those in every Vegas room we have ever stayed in. even if there is not just ring housekeeping and they will be sent up.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

    Hi dawnylou

Its a real possibility - but we havent yet even discussed it with family etc - though, if I am honest - its probably the only way we will be able to afford to get hitched AND have a honeymoon and we both ADORE Vegas - so it seems like the perfect solution to me!!! My best friend got wed there three years ago (Star Trek theme) and whilst thats great for her I would prefer something a little more traditional - the Chapel of Flowers sounds really nice - I am presuming that you dont have to book years in advance like in the UK?!!! My friend booked their Star Trek wedding a few months in advance, got a license in Vegas the day before and were hitched the day after.
Any helpful tips/advice from your wedding would be greatfully received - though we wont be "doing to deed" till next June/July :T (all being well).

The jet lag wins every time doesnt it? - Its almost like being drugged!!
It took me over a week to get back to normal last time - I kept falling asleep around 6pm till 9pm then felt wide awake at normal bed time. Good luck!!!

Well you know Steff theoretically it should be the GC because of the Palms which is one of my favourites as well as the nicer rooms -but no the Orleans still wins for me - I think in part because I find their staff consistently nice and friendly

Yes there is an iron and ironing board in the rooms at the MGM.

You are only allowed to bring one litre of spirits per person in to the US.

    Thanks,

I've read mixed reviews about the dinnner and show and was kind of put off tbh, quite fancy the comedian i've read about on here Vinny Favorito, presuming we can see him in June? Think it would be more my cup of tea anyway but given our time limit am humming and haa'ing.. So much to take in my head is spinning.. :p

The Cheesecake Factory is a definate on the list though :D

yeah you won't go wrong with Dinner @ The Cheesecake Factory . we have never had a bad meal at one yet, and i don't think we have had anyone post any negatives either .

Bellagio fountains are a must for a first time visit as well IMO. a show starts every 15 mins at night so easy to fit in.

as for a show see what takes your fancy when you get there.

like you say you cannot hope to see everything , so get to hung up on hitting as much as you can , relax , take in Vegas and enjoy yourself is my advice
Thanks everyone for all the advice and recommendations in this thread!!
