Sounds like a similar wait to dollar then for us:(. We've always found dollar at McCarran to be super slow, but maybe its just been bad luck on our part. Ah well, thats just means OH has to go queue while i trot off to get a cold drink and freshen up:D

Why don't you get yourself a Dollar Express membership (free) ? Ferf mentioned it so I signed up online and I had my card through quite quickly.

It allows you to skip the main queue when picking the car up and I also emailed Dollar reservations with my Virgin booking ref and they've paired them up so the paperwork should all be ready when I arrive. Should be !

    The Fremont street experience

Honestly though for a first visit I'd suggest forgetting about Freemont Street -there's more than enough -and better to see and do on the Strip

I have a totally different opinion (I think it is a wonderful experience for a first timers)!! I loooved Fremont Street Experience (the shown under the canopy). It is up there with Ka as my 2 favourite LV things! We went there during the day and it was nice to see the older Vegas. We enjoyed the Deuce journey via some wedding chapels, a few motels, arrived at the street, had a nice cappuccino, visited the old casinos, took come photos and headed back to the Strip - not terribly exciting but it was fairly quick since there was not much traffic. For a first timer, it might not really be the best use of your time. I enjoyed our visit though.

At night it took ages on the Deuce to get there, but again, I enjoyed the journey there and was able to sit in the front of the Deuce's upper deck and take loads of photos (it was August and incredibly hot outside). We saw the American Pie show. I loved it!! People were singing along, the canopy is huge (if you watch youtube videos you don't grasp the sheer size of it!). OH was not willing to wait to see the other shows, but I would have gladly stayed since I was completely amazed by this experience. Not sure if it was the lights, the crowd singing and dancing, or the jet lag!! The huge downside was the queue for the Deuce. And the ages it took to get back to the MGM!!

I am glad I did not see the other shows though, since I now have something to get back ;)

Here is one of the photos I posted last year along with my trip report.

Edit: sorry Duchy, I am not a native speaker, so the "tiotally different opinion" sounds a bit weird... I just wanted to emphasize that as a first timer, I loved it, so skipping Freemont street, which had a lasting impression for me, might reduce the whole Vegas experience.

The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Thats great as long as your car hire is with Dollar. I know Carhire 3000 use them but netflights have moved over to Thrifty now (they had for my next trip anyway). I have never had a car allocated by Dollar in the 20 odd times we have been. Always either been Alamo or Thrifty
